Code: 35. Create the front page of a newspaper celebrating the win or the Ultimus or Ultimini winner. (Graphic Option) Code: 36. Affiliate PT from either SHL/SSL/PBE. The Weeks must match with the timeframe of this Offseason Task. And you may only use a max of 1. PBE PT Code: 23. What are your thoughts on the sim engine? What sort of improvements would you make to the sim engine if given the opportunity? (Written Task) I am not ashamed to say it - I love Draft Day Sports: Pro Football 21, and I will explain. Let's start with the presentation- those dots are super slick and way better than any kind of rendered 3D model. The way the players disappear off the field adds a real sense of intrigue to the occasion. I like the way that each position has 2 maybe 3 attributes that significantly contribute to that player's performance, and the rest is mostly RNG. Who doesn't love randomness? I like the way the sim changes your player's render so that he looks completely different every time you load a game - it keeps me from getting too emotionally attached to my sim dot, which can only be a good thing. I am needy. I absolutely love the way that the sim calls plays. No inherent knowledge of football strategy needed, let's try a deep pass while we are 1 behind on 4th and 5, 15 yards out with 3 seconds remaining. It's like the coaches are drunk toddlers and that's just great. Code: 33. When looking at the teams we have in the ISFL and DSFL, is there any team you believe is in need of a major rebrand or update to their current branding? Why or why not? (Written Task) My number two choice (I take a lot of heat for my #1 so I won't) for rebranding is the Bondi Beach Buccaneers. First off, it doesn't work. Sure, Australia had a history of piracy back when that word evoked images of ships and men with swords, but a Buccaneer is quite literally a pirate of the Caribbean. Even if you take the word to just mean "pirate", it is a miserable fit with the sexy Sydney attraction of Bondi Beach. Were there pirates there back in the day? Yeah, probably, but Bondi Beach invokes images of a model-looking girl in a bikini who can somehow drink more VBs than I can. Then there's the logo. Green, orange and purple - let's just use all the bright colours - and far too ornate for my tastes. Australia has a wonderful, rich ecosystem and great potential for better mascots. Woolongong Wombats? Darwin Drop Bears? Perth Platypi? Canberra Quokkas? Throw a dart at a map of the country, and another one in the outback, and you will probably hit a better location/mascot pair.

9. Each must be 300+ words - There have been many moments in league history where a single decision (e.g., a draft choice, a GM’s promotion or retirement, a trade, a player’s movement in free agency) may have changed the course of a team in the ISFL or DSFL. Describe a decision that was made and the impact that it had. Did you imagine said decision leading to a different conclusion or did you think things would turn out the way they did? Is there anything different you would have done to avoid disaster or make things even better? The year is S40 for the ISFL. Teams are trying to improve on their squads and make some real impact picks in the draft. It has been said that the young Tywrell informed teams that they would only want to go to Arizona but this was only limited to the 1st round. It was very clear that other teams had the ability to add this franchise changing defensive player to their teams in the 2nd round if they chose so and he would entertain playing there as well. Well the 2nd round started and what we had happen was many teams show their true colours as they continued to pass on Tywrell forever damaging their franchise ability to find success. This runs deep as it has been proven each year the young player has been up his team has made the finals - clearly something that was heavily influenced by his play and presence in the lock room. So who passed this player and forever hurt their chances at repeated greatness? Yellowknight Wraiths - They clearly ghosted this pick Berlin Fire Salamanders - 2 chances to tack a franchise changing player and 2 times they swung and missed. I mean its fine in the end cause their team colours and logo are weak sauce Orange County Otters - I am just disappointed more than mad here after my last player was part of their multiple titles back when he played New York Silverbacks - One of my own PBE players runs this team and passed on me - this cuts deep - time for repgnar to be traded to Indy Apex Baltimore Hawks - The winds took the hawks out of the sky and they crashed into the ground missing this pick Sarasota Sailfish - This is another team that had 2 chances to really improve their teams chances but instead decided they would rather be sushi in the long term. This one does make me sad too cause they have wicked colours Austin Copperheads - I now find myself unconfident in this teams success moving forward. San Jose Sabercats - CK still holding the Kicker pick over my head I bet - San Jose Saber kittens now without Tywrell. 23. Each must be either 150+ words - What are your thoughts on the sim engine? What sort of improvements would you make to the sim engine if given the opportunity? (Written Task) How do we improve the sim engine? Well i can't speak for anything mechanics wise as I am really just a part time user here for overall activity. What would help draw me in more would be a sim that was more exciting and visually appealing like we have with OOTP or even that broken football league that was run by TLK. Sure it simmed poorly but at least you got to see your players move in real time instead of coloured dot which sometimes can glitch out. I know this isn't readily possible as Madden couldn't really export data to a server like our current sim could but it would be nice to have a sim league based on actual semi modern graphics. Heck - even something akin to that new indy developed rogue lite hockey game would be great. I feel like these sim engine are 1 big graphics update away from over taking the EA sports or 2K world they just dont have the resources to do so.
11. Write a short biography or story about your player. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league.
Gaius Gleel is the son of notorious Chicago LB Wasrabi Gleel and ISFL reporter Pam Pringle. Gaius is coming to the league from a somewhat strange background–unlike most players, Gleel did not attend a university with a football program. Rather, he went to a liberal arts school called Bennington College. However, when he graduated he realized that he’d be in substantial debt for the rest of his life. Thus, he listened to his father and decided to declare for the ISFL s43 draft. Though he doesnt have a lot of college experience playing gridiron football, his ultimate frisbee team won an intramural tourney where Gleel was declared the MVP. Though his father played for the Grey Ducks and Chicago exclusively, Gaius is really looking to see which teams can pay him the most, that way he’ll be able to better pay off his ludicrous debts. He brings a lot of speed to his game, though in every other way he is very much a project player. Obviously there is a limited role for a linebacker in Ultimate Frisbee, so Gaius spent most of the time playing cornerback and wide receiver when he was at Bennington, where he set school Frisbee records for interceptions and touchdowns. In a recent interview ahead of the draft, Gaius talked a lot about the legacy his father left behind. He mentioned wanting to beat his father’s ISFL numbers, and if he could do that then maybe his dad would respect his decision to go to art school instead of Dartmouth College; his fathers Alma Mater. It remains to be seen how well Gaius will compete at the DSFL level, let alone the ISFL level, but with the right coaching and guidance, he certainly has the athletic pedigree to become a premier linebacker for any team willing to take a shot on him. 10. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commissioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted? If I was put in charge of the ISFL for a day, I would look to improve the league's finances a bit. I know there is an ISFL merch store now, which is very exciting, but there could be and should be more options of fun merch to buy. I’d look to form a committee of ISFL artist to not only spearhead getting the standard logos on hats, hoodies, shirts, and mugs, but also do a feasibility check on making it possible to get our forum signatures in the form of stickers. I would personally love a Wasrabi Gleel sig on the back of my nearly mint 2004 subaru forester. The other thing I think would create some league cash is an ISFL cookbook. I’d work on it myself, being a chef, but I would like to include an entry for every single team in the ISFL and DSFL, as well as a couple oddball recipes. I really would look forward to crafting some sort of Minnesota Grey Duck/Peking Duck, or a Kansas City BBQ Coyote. Or maybe I shouldnt choose to cook the mascot of the team in the cookbook. That could pose a problem for a team like Yellowknife or Norfolk. I would also probably change how position switching works, because I have gone on record as really not enjoying the banking of TPE that is inaccessible for a season after a player switch. It feels punitive to restrict access to TPE that has already been earned for engagement with the league, and then suddenly it becomes unavailable for a season because you switched to a new position. I get that there needs to be some kind of cost associated with position switching in order to deter it from happening all the time, but I just think that if you made it either more expensive to switch, or imposed a negative trait of some kind, that would be preferable to restricting the TPE you’ve already earned as a player.
After three years as the Cape Town Crash, formerly known as the Philadelphia Liberty the team was able to win it all by beating the Arizona Outlaws, the defending champion 20-18. After the relocation the Crash had an 8-8 record in their inaugural season followed by a 10-6 record in season 40 and managing a strong 13-3 record for the season 41 which was the season where they took it all. Looking at the final standings of season 41 the Crash had it all. With 454 points scored they were the #1 offense in that category and with 294 points allowed they were #2 in that defense category only trailing the Yellowknife Wraiths who allowed only 290 points for the season. The rushing game was a pivotal part of the Crash season where the rushing yards per game with 144.3 was 2nd in the league also behind the Yellowknife Wraiths with 155.3. The passing attack lead by Crash QB Craig Jerrith IV added 3803 yards to the Crash season with the leading receiver being WR Derrick Prince with 1294 yards and 5 receiving TDs. Last season MVP Jarvis Harbinger-Marjin was the work horse of rushing attack contributing 1846 rushing yards on 357 rushes for a 5.2 yds per rush average. Jarvis also scored 14 rushing TDs. He also was part of the passing game with 42 receptions for 447 yards and 4 TDs. The season started good for the Crash when they won the first 3 games out of the gate. But losses against the Chicago Butchers in week 4 (30-31) and against the Orange County Otters in week 5 (12-20) saw the record slip to 3-2. But starting with week 6 the Crash won all their remaining games with the exception of the week 13 game against the Chicago Butchers (19-26) to end the season with a 13-3 record which was the best in the league. The first playoff game which was the third game against the Chicago Butchers finally saw the Crash beating the Butchers 26-13 and advance to the conference championship game against the surprising Sarasota Sailfish who beat the favorite Yellowknife Wraiths in the 1st round of the playoffs 40-16. The Crash beat the Sarasota Sailfish in the conference championship game 34-20 to advance to the Ultimus championship game against the defending champion Arizona Outlaws. The game was what everybody expected, a clash between two heavyweights. The unusual game plan for the Crash which did not focus on the run probably threw the Outlaws a curve ball. With only 17 rushing attempts for only 29 rushing yards the game needed some extra push from the passing game. Crash QB Creg Jerrith IV completed 26-of-39 passing attempts for 291 yards including 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Defense was all over the place and no team was able to score more than a TD in a quarter. Arizona took the lead 18-17 in the fourth quarter with 2:28 on the clock and a failed 2 point conversion. Taking over the ball with 2:10 on the clock on the own 11-yard line the Crash completed passes for the next eight plays and moved the ball to the Arizona 26-yard line. With 0:17 the 43 yard field goal was good and gave the win to the Crash with the final score 20-18.
The Ultimini championship game in season 41 saw the Tijuana Luchadores beat the Kansas City Coyotes in OT 20-17 to take home the league championship for the second time in the last six seasons. Tijuana was the only team in the South conference during the regular season with a .500+ record. They finished the regular season with an 8-5-1 record. The team to beat in the DSFL this season were the Kansas City Coyotes who managed a 11-3 record. In the playoffs Kansas City took care of business by beating the London Royals 41-28 and the Luchadores had to face the Bondi Beach Buccaneers which the beat 24-9 to advance to the Ultimini championship game. In the championship game the Luchadore scored the first 17 points and lead 17-0 with 8:07 left in the 4th quarter. Kansas City scored a TD with 3:46 left in the game and with 0:34 on the clock to cut the Luchadorfes lead to 17-14. A succesful onside kick gave the Coyotes the ball again with 0:28 on the clock. One pass play later after a 21 yard completion from KC QB Jefferson to Hernandez the ball was on the 26 yard line of rthe Luchadores and a 43yard FG sent the game into overtime with the score tied 17-17. After exchanging six punts in overtime the Luchadores had been able to move the ball to the Kansas City 16-yard line and kicked the game winning FG from 33 yards out towin the Ultimini champion ship. 24. Half-Time Show
Anchor: The ISFL half-time committee announced Hozier is the selection for Halftime performer at this year's Ultimus, and with it being in his home country of Ireland it was a great choice; our reporter spoke with him. Reporter: How excited were you to get the call to perform; and Hozier, any songs we are sure to hear this weekend? Hozier: This is probably the biggest moment of my career, I'm so excited to perform and with a new album coming out I have so many new and old songs I can perform. 11. With Beniri T'Chawama getting old and entering what looks like his last season in the league, let us look back at his career as a pancake monster from the DSFL to the ISFL. Entering the DSFL, T'Chawama did not know what he was getting himself into. Heck, he joined the sport of football quite late and was initially aiming to be a chef, but with his size and skill, he played on the Minnesota Grey Ducks as a mid-season signing and winning his first Ultimini Bowl before he was even drafted. Following his brief stint with Minnesota, Beniri got drafted by the Dallas Birddogs where they took him to be a running back. Kind of an odd switch for T'Chawama, but he was willing to do what the team needed. His strong running back plays helps the Birddogs win an Ultimini of their own, making Beniri a two time champion early in his career. Funny enough though, the team that drafted him to the ISFL, the Honolulu Hahalua, also won the Ultimus Bowl that season so I still look back and wonder if it would have been better to be a 3-time Ultimus Champion. But anyways, after a few seasons Beniri got the call up to the Hahalua where he switched back to the position he knew and love, offensive lineman. The team was looking strong and Beniri was able to continue to get the pancakes he knows and loves and this led to 2 Ultimus Bowls for him playing for Honolulu! With half of his career done, he honestly could not have asked for a more successful career so as the Honolulu began rebuilding, T'Chawama agreed to be traded to the New Orleans Secondline. There he continued to get pancakes and such, but the success of the team was not the same. Following a couple season at New Orleans, Beniri finally finds himself at Berlin with the Firesalamanders where again, not the best showings as he's getting up there in age, but looking forward to his last season in the league. (342 words)
16. The S41 season has come to a close and Beniri's career found himself on a new team after two or so games! Taking a look back, T'Chawama found himself with quite a decent season all things considered. His last season saw only 88 pancakes and this season he made the jump back over the 100 pancake plateau for 101 showing the youngin's that this old man still got some pancakes in him! (let us ignore the record season high of 8 sacks allowed...). Starting the season with the New Orleans Secondline for his 4th season with the team, Beniri was off to a decent start with over 5 pancakes a game with a nice 13 pancakes in the fourth game of the season. However, by that time, the Secondline have decided that this is a rebuilding season and decides to package Beniri with a few other players to the Berlin Fire Salamanders who saw this season a potential championship season... oh boy did they not expect what happened next. After Beniri got traded, his first game showed no troubles with another 6 pancakes to show for with his new team, but the Fire Salamanders continued their slower start and lost 6 of the next 7 games, albiet by a close margin. T'Chawama was consistent, but at this age I definitely don't think that the team should be expecting much from him. With this many losses in the season, the hopes and dreams and mainly the expectations of Berlin were shot and their end of the season was better relatively, going 3-4 in another close fashion, but the gap was too big to close. Overall, the season was a bit of a wash for both the teams that Beniri played for and they can only hope that the rebuild/next season can swing a little more in their favour. Beniri on the other hand is just looking for a couple more pancakes before calling it. (324 words) |
