Hey guys. This is my first real media post, so I don’t 100% know what I’m doing. Sorry if it’s a bit scuffed lol. However, the mods have a nice 2x bonus for posts this week… so I decided to write a recap of Tijuana’s draft class so far (through 10 games). I’d also like to save my first gen media article 2x for another article.
Now, I’m sure pretty much no one knows this, but I wrote a brief draft recap for my rookie media post. It was pretty crappy, and I made the horrible mistake of forgetting a drafted player or two. Now, I’m going to go much more in depth and do this properly. Players were updated as of 7/2, so I don’t think I got every UDFA. Apologies for this- I’ll make a final recap at the end of the year though!
Round 1, Pick 8: Ignatious Cleetington - TE - S.H.I.T.
Stats: 9 Games Started, 2 rushing attempts, 0 rushing yards, 37 receptions, 440 receiving yards, 2 TDs, 15 pancakes
Of course, I have to start with our first round pick. Cleetington has started almost every game so far with the Luchadores, and has proven to be a very versatile weapon as the team’s second tight end. With the talent the team has at the skills positions with their veterans (such as starter Nick Treasure and 3 veterans wide receivers), Cleetington has been used more as a blocker than a wideout so far. This has paid dividends for the team- starter Treasure has lit up opposing defenses, and Cleetington’s blocking has helped to pave the way for both Tijuana’s 2 star QBs to lead the league in passing and their rushing attack to be 4th despite relying on a single rookie RB. We can’t wait to see how Cleetington develops his game further as he eventually develops into Tijuana’s starting TE.
Round 2, Pick 16: Iman Outlaw - LB - Arizona State
Stats: 10 games started, 75 tackles, 12 TFLs, 3 FFs, 11 sacks, 5 PDs
Now, this was an absolute steal. In his first full DSFL season, Outlaw has developed into one of the league’s best defenders. 6th in tackles, tied for 5th in forced fumbles, and of course, the league’s sack leader. He also leads rookies in all of these stats. Outlaw has been an anchor of this Tijuana defense, as he has been used in every facet of the game. Run defense? Good luck running up the middle with him awaiting you. Pass rush? Easy work. Dropping into coverage? He’s tailing you every step of the way. Tijuana is second in Points Allowed- and Outlaw has been a major reason why.
Round 3, Pick 17: Sem'ga Nah'sim - LB - Kansas
Stats: 10 games started, 48 tackles, 4 TFLs, 1 PDs
While everyone has been focused on Iman Outlaw, Sem’ga Nah’sim has quietly had a very solid rookie season. He has started every game as the Luchadores’ 3rd linebacker, and done a good job developing over the course of the season. He has tremendous speed and agility, and has used this to fly all over the place. He’s also 6th among rookies in tackles- despite being the 3rd linebacker on his team! Tijuana’s talent has made Nah’sim a very underrated weapon, and we know he will unleash his potential for the rest of the year and in future seasons to come.
Round 3, Pick 24: Kyle Bessey - RB - USC
Stats: 10 games started, 167 attempts, 791 rushing yards (4.7 YPC), 8 rushing TDs, 9 receptions, 85 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD, 20 pancakes
Now for my own player. I was extremely fortunate to get drafted to Tijuana- an excellent team where I quickly became the team’s main RB. I’ve been 6th in rushing attempts across the league, as the Luchadores have relied on me for a consistent rushing attack. I’ve done well, as I’m 5th in rushing yards, 3rd in rushing touchdowns, tied for 1st in YPC (for RBs over 50 carries), and of course, the rookie leader in all these stats. I’ve also assisted in blocking for our QBs, as 20 pancakes puts me 2nd among running backs throughout the league. I’m thankful that Tijuana has given me the keys to the rushing attack early, and I’ll do my best to keep improving throughout the year.
Round 5, Pick 33: Player McPlayer-Face - TE - Delaware
Stats: N/A
Unfortunately, McPlayer-Face hasn’t seen the field yet for the Luchadores. With two stellar tight ends ahead of him on the depth chart, he has been using this time to hone his skills to hopefully burst out next season.
Round 5, Pick 40: C.G. Breezy Jr - QB - Michigan
Stats: 5 games started, 81 completions, 134 passing attempts (60.4%), 834 passing yards, 7 Passing TDs, 2 interceptions, 89.6 passer rating, 39 rushing attempts, 210 rushing yards, 3 rushing TDs, 8 kick returns, 131 KR yards, 4 pancakes
Wow. When Breezy Jr. was selected at the end of the 5th round, many expected him to wait his first year. Lloyd Bannings was already an elite QB, but Breezy Jr. wanted to make his mark immediately. His speed has been a boon for the Luchadores all over the field, as he carved out a spot as the 2nd QB in a 2 QB rotation. This was a tremendous decision, as the Luchadores lead the league in passing yards, completion %, and passer rating. Breezy Jr. has been extremely efficient despite his niche as a mobile QB, with 7 TDs to 2 picks. He’s also been tremendous scrambling, as he has over 200 rushing yards and 3 rushing TDs. Miraculously, he has also seen work as a kick returner, with an average of over 16 yards per return. We can’t wait to see how Breezy Jr. does in the future as he develops into Tijuana’s starter in future seasons.
Undrafted: Griff Crunk - SS - UGF
Stats: 10 games started, 33 tackles, 1 FF, 1 FR, 1 sack, 5 PDs
Unfortunately for Crunk, he went undrafted. However, Tijuana saw a shot for him before the season began, and made sure to pick him up. This was a great decision for both sides, as Crunk has started at strong safety every week so far. He has played a crucial role holding things down for Tijuana’s premier defense. His stats may seem limited, however, this is largely due to the effectiveness of Tijuana’s other position groups. Crunk has done a great job preventing big plays, and we can’t wait to see how he improves in the future.
Undrafted: Robert Green - FS - Syracuse
Stats: 9 games started, 31 tackles, 1 FF, 1 FR, 3 PDs
After joining the team for week 2, Green has been Tijuana’s starting free safety every game. Similar to Crunk, he has done a great job holding things down in the secondary, as he has also held things down to prevent big plays. With great speed, Green has been all over the field, assisting pretty much every position group to make them even more elite. We saw what this Luchadore defensive unit would look like without him- and his immediate presence helped turn the unit from good to elite. Improving every week, we can’t wait to see how Green makes his mark in the future.
Alright, that’s all the players I can get to! I hope you all enjoyed this quick analysis, as this Luchadore class has been a blast to be a part of. Hopefully we can hold stuff down in our next few games and bring the chip back to Tijuana.
