Man if I were to help create a stadium I think that would be a lot of fun.  I think of course there would be a huge beer garden with all kinds of craft beer and of course the water beer people like to drink.  There would also be a lot of great food selections from smash burgers to pretzels and cheese, huge hot dogs and chili dogs and smothered fries the works.  Yes I'm fully on board with our fans getting into a food coma, but really what I know is that our fans are as hardcore as they come and they love their beer so much that I just want to create all the best food options for them so they can soak up the alcohol and have a pleasant day.  Now aside from that the only other thing that I would ensure is that we have an absolutely amazing fan shop full of merchandise, signed memorabilia, and trading cards.  I think that'd continue to further engage our fans.

The SIM ENGINE?!?!? THE SIM ENGINE?!? Do you really want to know my thoughts on the sim engine?  Oh boy don't you even get me started on the sim engine!  The sim engine is so terrible it makes other bad sim engines not look so bad.  First off it is extremely shallow in the results available so it makes outcomes of plays suck.  Also the ability to modify plays, play calling, etc. is so bad it's practically non-existant.  Also the decision making in general is just about as bad as it could possibly be. Down by a few points with the game on the line in the fourth quarter with time running down?  Why not run it three time up the gut and burn out the rest of the clock and lose.  I think it could be a whole lot better in basically every aspect that I'm not sure that there's even any redeeming qualities to speak of.

Man if my current position was blocked when making my player I'm really not sure what I would have picked.  Like back when I created I might have said quarterback, but I'm really not sure.  Like right now I've somehow burned through 78 million in cash and I haven't even made it to the big leagues yet.  Like I probably would have just said screw it and not made a player at all.  This some crazy economics in the league where I'll be out of cash in my first season.  Nevertheless I'd probably pick quarterback and play there.  I wanted to make an offensive player and all the other choices honestly sound real boring.  I know the last time I was asked this I said tight end, but man I don't know if I'd really want to be a tight end, quarterback sounds like a lot more fun.  Sure I'd probably throw a lot of picks, but man I'd be a quarterback so who cares

Task 1

After the dust had finally settled, the Ultimus ended exactly how most people predicted it would with the Arizona Outlaws managing to take home another trophy. The names of the S42 Outlaws gracing the home page of the ISFL now for the following season with high hopes for S43 coming soon after. But what about their opponents in the Ultimus? Even though it was a 38-14 blowout, the team on the other side of the Ultimus might have played harder than any other team throughout the season. They fought off doubt and disrespect throughout S42 to make it to the peak of the season. Everyone that was not cheering for another Outlaw Ultimus win, had a little bit of these fierce underdogs in them and their boastful messages on Discord. The team that captured people’s hearts, if only for a moment, the Berlin Fire Salamanders.

Our season of surprise begins back at the end of the regular season of S41. Berlin finished the season with a tight victory over the Chicago Butchers, 20-17, but had the second worst record in the league. While there were plenty of teams worried about tiebreakers to get into the playoffs, the Fire Salamanders instead took their victory back to the locker room in silence. The team had been dealing with some growing pains on the offensive side of the ball with some older pieces and still growing players trying to blend together on the field. If the team had any hopes of making it close to the playoffs next season then things were going have to change quickly between these two parties heading into S42. The team spent the offseason preparing harder than they had in seasons’ past where there sole goal now was to break into the playoffs. Even if they just made it into the third seed, the team was after the postseason somehow.

The battle was tough, trades and new strategies that made even the coaching staff shrug pushed the team in different directions. A series of back-to-back double score blowouts began to derail the team’s hopes in the middle of the season, and got everyone penciling in the Fire Salamanders’ S42 as yet another without an appearance in the playoffs. Yet they managed to turn things around in week 11 with a close win that would propel the successful Salamanders into their destination. The S42 Playoffs. Just as expected, the fight to the top would begin immediately with a rematch against the Cape Town Crush whom Berlin had just lost to in week 16.

Thankfully, the flame would not go out in the first round as the Fire Salamanders torched the Crush in a close one and stunned the ISFL world. Somehow the team that had only mustered up five wins in S41 was now onto the second round! Without much issue, Berlin continued their win streak against Baltimore too and found themselves staring down the barrel of the Arizona Outlaws who had posted a league best 13-3 record in the regular season. The season had been filled with suspense, last second magic, and movie moments was shot down in the final hour.

Even though they lost, the most surprising team of S42 has to be the Berlin Fire Salamanders. While their defensive TPE was exponentially higher than some teams, they managed to put together some dominant offensive performances regardless of what the awards committee might have you believe. They also had the best game of the playoffs in a last second field goal win over the Crush. Known Acquaintance managed to knock a 33 yard field goal through the uprights and secured Berlin’s legitimacy as a team in S42. Hopefully, their surprise turns into consistency in the future as S43 looks to be another big year for the Fire Salamanders.

When looking at the teams we have in the ISFL and DSFL, is there any team you believe is in need of a major rebrand or update to their current branding? Why or why not?

I am coming to the point now where I think the Colorado Yeti are due for a bit of a branding upgrade. The current look of the logo is a little aged and doesn't lend itself too well to uniforms/helmets. Even the best of graphics often have it feeling a little out of place. I love the name and overall branding but the logo is a little cartoonish. I can't exactly put my finger on it but the concept of a yeti in colorado is super cool and lends itself to some awesome Graphical opportunities. Maybe some more emphasis on the yeti rather than the silhouette? I understand the silhouette is maybe supposed to emphasise the mystery of the Yeti but perhaps identifying the yeti directly could bring out some cool logo opportunities, like perhaps a yeti roaring with some rolling mountains behind it. Something along those lines would be really cool. The colour scheme is really awesome too so keep the red yellow and black. Maybe red and green though because Colorado. I am not sure if anything is being done but they're definitely one of the final ones to receive an update and I wouldn't say it's needing immediate attention but it's definitely on the list of teams that could do with one.

Huck Indarts is a Wide Receiver playing with the Portland Pythons. He was #3 on the depth chart at WR and caught 13 passes for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns. Indarts is an underrated slot receiver that possesses solid hands and good speed. He does not have the high profile TPE but he may be a late bloomer. The New York Silverbacks are hoping for just that. New York drafted Huck Indarts with the 38th pick in the 3rd round. New York scouts have been known to find some real talent later in drafts. So it would be no surprise if Huck Indarts turned into a big role player for them. The User Overdoo is a well known user who has been around and is definitely more than capable of turning Indarts into something big. I definitely would expect to see big things coming from Huck Indarts in the DFSL and in the future in the ISFL.

Oh the sim engine. Now I do not know that much about programming but I feel like most of this would be achievable. First I think a Touchdown Celebration of some sort would be awesome. Whether it be a Cannon going off for a Loose Cannon pick six at the Concrete Jungle. Or a "COWABUNGA!" when Michael McTurtle rolls off a 73 yard tuddy. It could be music or a sound clip either works great when used properly. Another option would be to show a clip of the player like a gif or something. I like highlights of games so somehow incorporating that into the sim would be great I think. I also think that a video intro for every team would be cool. Add in some graphic work or something and it would be a whole show. But for the most part I do not think the sim needs to change. I think it works very well and I enjoy it.

So first of all, I already said that the New York Silverbacks are the best branding in the league as stated in a previous Offseason Task. But for this one, I will go the next best one. I think the Sarasota Sailfish are the next best branding in the league. Sarasota, while not a huge market, is a very nice destination in a warm climate. So it is a perfect location for a football team. Sailfish is a good choice for branding. It is relevant to the location and also is pretty unique. And lastly the colors. A great color scheme can go a long way. And this is one of the those great ones.  These jerseys are probably flying off the shelf because these are hot. I am sure everyone just likes these jerseys. Might not be too interested in a Willier Miller jersey but hey not all players jerseys look great.

10. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commissioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted? (300 Words)

The prophecy has finally come into being. Your new czar and overlord, UberBJ, is in control. Trust in your new God, for he is kind.

Improvement #1: Remove the no tamper clause allowance in contracts. I’m going to rant about it here because I can finally do away with it. Too many times have people been trying to skirt the rules any way possible. The current incarnation and allowance of this clause allows people to actually negate a LEAGUE WIDE RULE just for themselves at a whim. The concept of a user and GM having this power is a farce and in line with the second rule we will discuss in a bit. Why is this allowed? Answer: It’s not, because I just shot it into the sun with my new all consuming commissioner powers.

Improvement #2:

Users cannot choose their draft destination and are in breach of league protocol if they tell a GM/scout they will leave their drafted team ASAP just to go to the team they wanted all along. We currently have rules in place to force a GM pick in the 2nd round at the earliest team owned pick, so why are we letting users essentially choose their draft destination? There have been many instances of this in the past but this last draft we saw a top 3 prospect, and top LB prospect overall, get taken at the bottom of the first round by the reigning league winners.

So how do we fix this? We already have by electing me supreme ruler of the ISFL. I will also yeet this behavior into the sun with extreme prejudice. But seriously, I would want to institute a rule that in obvious cases like this, the team must use their top first round pick to take them. And if a team takes them beforehand, the user cannot hold out or force a move to the aforementioned preferred team. They are welcome to seek a trade and force the desired team to pay a premium for them, which they should've done in the draft anyways.

16. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? (300 words)

Cheecago Boucher’s first season in the DSFL was pretty solid honestly. He stepped into a rather depleted London defense, and was asked to take a big role early on. Sure there was the GOAT Mad Props and stalwart Andrey Hepburn, but they are just bots anyways.

He got a ton of playtime and had top 3 in the league LB stats in both sacks and forced fumbles. While he didn’t recover many, he was making the plays. He was also a tackling machine behind fellow rookie defensive tackle, Water. This probably ate into his stats a little bit, but it was better for the team which was ideal.

London overall struggled, which we will blame HO for losing our strats for several double headers. Obviously there was foul play involved and everyone should be investigated to the fullest extent of the DSFL law. En route to the number one overall draft pick, there were quite a few notable wins and even more crushing defeats.

Opening the season with a huge win against the stalwart Kansas City Coyotes, it looked like London had something cooking. Especially with rookie S (playing cornerback no less) having two huge picks. They even followed it up with a pretty big win AWAY over the Choccy Milk Grey Ducks. However, as it usually tends to do, the milk soured shortly thereafter. London would go on to win only 2 more games against the Ducks and Buccaneers at home, and got blown out in several. Of particular concern was their dismal performances from their bot kicker. Arguably the worst kicker to ever disgrace the league. Fire him into the sun please.

While we are optimistic for the upcoming season, the London leadership failed to take a kicker or punter in the first round of the DSFL draft, which is concerning. Only time will tell, but god help us all if a bot kicker makes the queen roll in her grave again.

7. Write 600 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 600 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something.

First off congrats the Arizona outlaws on another ultimus championship! They were pretty dominate all season long with a record of 13-3. This was possible by finishing with the most points for and the least points again in the entire league. It’s always interesting after the season is over to go back and look at the stats and see what was it that led the teams to the ultimus. In this case what did Arizona and the Berlin fire salamanders do right to make it all the way. As we always do we will look at the different stats and see if there was a secret recipe for dominating season 42.

First we will look at the oversell view of both teams. Arizona was another favorite to win it all at the beginning of the season. There were a couple teams in their division that had a chance of making ask the way. Arizona was able to do what was needed to dominate the division but also the league. Berlin on the other hand was 9-7 and had some pretty average and standard stats. Not a high powered offense with only 379 points for, 10th in the league. Last in their division. And 334 points against which was 4th best. Good stats but nothing like Arizona who led in each of those categories.

Let’s look at the passing game next. Berlin was more reliant on the pass game attempting 60 more passes than Arizona. Santa Cruz ranked 7th in yards, 8th in completion percentage, 12th in TDs, 5th in ints, and 8th in qb rating. The receiving crew was led by mcsix, dangle and queen. Mcsix and dangle were both over 1000 yards in the season with Queen not far behind. Based on these stats I would not say that Berlin was led by a high powered passing attack. It was a pretty average attack but let’s see if it was paired with something else. Arizona on the other hand was 11th in yards, 3rd in completion percentage, 9th in TDs, 3rd in ints, and 1st in qb rating. Blondin, Stinkwater, and Aguilera led the receiving corps. Blondin and stinkwater were in the 1000 yard club with Aguilera being just shy with 800. While it wasn’t a high powered offense it was an efficient one ranking high in percentage, qb rating, and ints. It clearly wasn’t what led them to scoring more points than anyone in the whole league.

Arizona was heavy on the run game with Nedelko dominating the league. He ran almost 120 more times than the next closest run into back attempting 432 rushes. That’s 27 times a game! Didn’t have the best average with 4.4 yards per attempted but led the league with almost 2000 yards and 17 TDs. This was obviously the focal point of the offense and it worked to perfection. Queen also help Berlin with a pretty solid season. 8th in yards with 1300 yards 4.3 per attempt with 13 tds. Both team had pretty solid running games paired with average passing to help them reach the ultimus.

Now let’s look at defenses. Arizona was last in tackles for loss but tied for second in sacks with 61. A total of 84 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Berlin had 30 tackles for loss and also had 61 sacks. Important stat for slowing down offenses. Arizona had 38 turnover and Berlin wasn’t far behind with 32. Berlin led the league with 7 defensive TDs with Arizona just behind them with 5. Both these teams clearly dominated in defense.

These two teams were pretty similar. Decent passing games with better than average rushing attacks paired with most importantly a solid defense. It’s easy to win games when the defense can really slow down the opponent. Let’s see what next season holds.

13. Choose a team or player to write about that isn’t your own. What did they do well in the last season? Have they shown any drastic improvements from previous years? What could they do better?

It has to be my partner in crime, Brian Vincent-Vega. Throughout the course of the season, Vincent-Vega's on-field prowess was evident in every play. With an impressive total of 39 tackles, he consistently demonstrated his ability to read the game and make crucial stops. His dynamic style of play was further highlighted by his aptitude for creating turnovers, racking up 2 forced fumbles that shifted momentum in favor of the Outlaws.

What truly set Vincent-Vega apart was his proficiency in pass-rushing. His contribution of 4 sacks not only showcased his versatility as a safety but also emphasized his determination to impact all facets of the game. Additionally, his presence in coverage was nothing short of remarkable. With a keen eye for reading quarterbacks, Vincent-Vega managed to intercept the ball an astonishing 4 times, including an electrifying pick-6 that ignited the crowd and solidified his reputation as a game-changer.

Vincent-Vega's impact extended beyond his statistics. His ability to read and anticipate plays translated into 8 pass deflections, disrupting opposing offenses and forcing them to second-guess their strategies. His presence on the field was undeniable, instilling a sense of confidence and leadership among his teammates.

As a testament to his exceptional debut season, Vincent-Vega's performance garnered well-deserved recognition. His nomination for the Season 42 Defensive Rookie of the Year award was a reflection of his dedication and commitment to honing his craft. While the competition was undoubtedly fierce, his contributions were impossible to ignore, leaving a lasting impression on fans, analysts, and fellow players alike.

Growing up in the tranquil London suburbs, Notso Smart experienced a relatively ordinary upbringing. His parents, Geraldine Smart (née Thomas) and Jacob Smart, witnessed his academic struggles during his childhood, but his prowess in the realm of sports was nothing short of extraordinary. Alongside his exceptional understanding of strategy and technique within sports, Notso exhibited impressive physical abilities.

From his early years in primary school to his time in high school, Notso displayed a remarkable aptitude for a diverse array of sports. He excelled in Track, Soccer, Rugby, Cricket, Basketball, and Hockey, etching his name into school records for the 100m, 200m, and 400m events. His high school journey was marked by participation in nearly every available sport, showcasing his versatile athletic talents.

Yet, his most significant achievements extended beyond the school's domain, taking place just a stone's throw away at the London Olympians' headquarters. Building on this success, Notso's sophomore year mirrored his first season's interception tally, complemented by an impressive four tackles for loss from the secondary. Yet, it was during his junior year, when he assumed the role of team captain, that Notso Smart truly showcased his football prowess. Over 11 games, he recorded an astounding 80 tackles, defended 23 passes, and made 8 interceptions. This exceptional performance earned him the distinction of being a consensus first team All-American.

As a senior, while his tackling and passes defended slightly receded from the previous remarkable heights, Notso remained a force to be reckoned with, amassing 9 interceptions. His college football journey culminated in him being honoured as the National Defensive Player of the Year by Football News. With this recognition, Notso bid farewell to the college game, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.

Tier 1: Long Form Tasks (Must be 600+ words)

J’aimerais parler d’un sujet qui me tient à coeur dans la ligue. C’est à dire le métier de directeur général et spécialment de GM dans la ligue de développement. J’ai été GM pendant un an et ce fut un moment gratifiant. J’ai aimé partagé l’emploi avec Seb et Alikh. Dans ce texte je vais donner mes opinions sur la ligue, partager des beau moments que j’ai vécu et des leçon que j’ai apprises.

Premièrement, je veux faire un constat qui m’attriste. Je suis deçu que les équipes ne priorise plus les nouveaux joueurs et qu’ils repêchent des vétérants tôt dans le repêchage.  Le dernier repêchage était particulièrement terrible à cet égard.  Des équipes ont pris des vétérants dans la deuxième ronde. Et la pire dans tout ça , c’est que c’était un repêchage reddit. Dans mon temps, on se faisait un devoir de repêcher des vétérans à partir d’un moins la troisième ronde. La ligne directrice était toujours de prioriser les nouveau joueurs. On commençait a repêcher des véterants seulement après qu’il n’y ait plus de recrue à potentiel élevé. Ce qui était génial c’est le fait que la très grande majorité respectait cette règle non-dite. De plus un nombre élevé de joueur m’ont demande de ne pas les repêcher avant toutes les recrus intéressante lors de nos conversations de dépistage.  J’aime beaucoup cette règle non dite, car elle permet de faire vivre un bon moment au recru. Après tout la mission de la DSFL est d’intégrer des nouvelle personne dans le hobby. Il est donc essentiel de rendre leur expérience la plus agréable possible. Deplus une leçon que j’ai appris, c’est que les nouveau joueur sont pas mal les seuls qui ont le potentiel d’intégrer la war room et de contribuer. Les vétérants et les joueurs provenant de d’autres ligues, ont rarement l’intérêt pour s’impliquer. La majorité de temps, ils s’intéressent seulement à la ISFL. Donc une ogarnisation qui souhaite se développer et créer une culture organisationnel gagnante, doit se concentrer à recruter des recrus.  Oui avec un vetérant on a plus de certitude qu’il va se rendre au cap de 350 tpe, mais une recrus à beaucoup plus de potentiel à long terme.  Un exemple parfait pour illustrer mon propos est lorsque londres à repêcher Alikh et twent6. Ce fut nos choix de première et seconde ronde et ils avaient beaucoup de joueurs vetérants disponible. Mais on a choisit de les recruter et cette décision nous rapporte encore des dividendes à ce jour. Même chose pour les directeur générales actuel de l’équipe. Ils ont été repêché tôt et ce sont des humains extraordinaire.

J’aimerais aussi parler des buts qu’un directeur générale doit se donner. Je ne crois pas que le but premier soit de gagner à tout prix.  Oui gagner c’est plaisant, et cela doit être le but d’un GM dans la ISFL. Mais ce ne doit pas être le cas pour un GM dans la DSFL. Le but est de développer des utilisateurs et de les intégrer.  La ISFL est avant tout un jeu sociale et donc la priorité doit être mise sur le fait de créer un vestiaire ou les gens aiment parler et s’amuser. Le succès vient avec un vestiaire vivant. À Londres, on a pris plusieurs initiative pour rendre le LR amusant. On fait des emojis pour nos joueurs, on a plusieur bots de jeux, on a une charité qui motive les joueurs à participer à la ISFL et on donne des couronnes à un joueur offensif et défensif après chaque joute. Tout ça fait de Londre un de mes serveurs discord préféré.  Pour moi c’est futile de poursuivre la victoire dans la dsfl, car le taux de roulement est trop élevé.

Ahhh the Ultimini. Despite serving as the championship game for the developmental league offshoot of the ISFL, great football minds often consider the Ultimini an honor on par, if not better, than the Ultimus itself. That said, the winning team of the Ultimini are often the strongest, smartest, toughest players out there, and this year’s winner, the Norfolk Seawolves, are no exception. They showed out all season, finishing #1 seed firmly in hand, dominating opponents in the postseason, and then running away with what felt like half the season awards. Despite their dominance, they don’t get the respect they deserve. As a Seawolf, their utter dominance was clear to me throughout my time in the league. But it seems as though a lot of the other users were surprised, nay, SHOCKED, that Norfolk won the Mini. When the final seconds ran out in that game, I could feel the collective DSFL staring slack jawed at their monitors, faces bathed in the pale white glow of monitors that read “NORFOLK SEAWOLVES S42 DSFL CHAMPIONS.” So how exactly did the Seawolves get here? To get the full story we’ll also have to consider the path of their Ultimini opponents, the Minnesota Grey Ducks. 

Norfolk finished the regular season 11-3 off the back of a 4 game win streak (One of those wins coming against their eventual Ultimini opponent, The Minnesota Grey Ducks, in week 13, putting NOR 2-0 in their regular season matchups.). It was a close race til the end between Dallas, Tijuana, and Norfolk. Some late season Dallas/Tijuana missteps saw both of them ending the season at 9-5, Tijuana owning the tiebreaker and the last DSFL South playoff spot.

 Meanwhile the North was a different story. Despite doing a LOT of losing against the Seawolves, Minnesota was doing a whole lot of winning against the rest of the league, and their high flying offense (With the hugest PF in the league, one point ahead of Norfolk) led them to a 9-5 record. Their playoff opponent would be the 6-8 Kansas City Coyotes, who actually made the playoffs ahead 2 full games of the next best team. The North saw a playoff matchup where the eventual winner held a 80-23 regular season point differential above the loser. It’s not Minnesota’s fault that they’re good, but it’s not a surprise that they won the conference against KC in a 27-7 beatdown. 

Meanwhile the South sees Tijuana, a perennial favorite, looking up at Norfolk, a team who they beat 38-21 in their week 2 matchup, but ended up splitting the season series with after a 23-20 defeat in week 9. While everyone viewed Minnesota as locks, the opinion in the South was much more split. However, it seemed the prevailing sentiment was that Norfolk were pretenders, or “frauds,” while Tijuana was the true king, and that despite their record they were the team to beat. But this Norfolk team is no ordinary team. Their explosive wide receiver set the record for receiving TDs, and their defensive unit was bar none the best in the league. At the very least, people were expecting a close game. During the game itself Norfolk’s offense was uncharacteristically quiet for the first half, only putting up 7 points. Fortunately their defense kept them in the game, and they ended the half down a manageable 13-7. And manage it they did. TIJ scored 6 points in the 3rd quarter, and thanks to the elite NOR defense, those were their last points of the game. Norfolk on the other hand scored 31 second half points, and ended the game convincingly at 39-19. 

On to the matchup with the Grey Ducks. The ducks seem like a popular team, they’re easy to root for. It feels fun when they win. So it seemed that most of the user base was convinced, or at least rooting for a, MINN win. Norfolk again showed out in the second half, scoring 17 of their 24 points in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Their defense also showed up again, and after 17 first half MINN points, they were held scoreless in the second half. NOR wins, 24-17. Despite this win, NOR is still being disrespected, and many around the league don’t expect that the Seawolves will continue their dominant streak. Once again, they will be proven wrong.
