One player on the San Jose Sabercats who improved from last year to this year would be none other than Linebacker Cruella de Ville. While looking at the stats alone, you would say the season could be a push, as for last season they recorded 115 tackles, 14 TFL, (11 missed) 7 Forced Fumbles, 2 recoveries, 19 sacks, 1 INT and 6 Pass deflections. This year, they recorded 109 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, (4 missed), 5 forced fumbles, 1 recovery, 19 sacks, 2 interceptions and 9 pass deflections. A lot of people would look at this and say the stats are basically a push, but I personally believe they improved all around. Without diving too deep in analytics, the reduction in tackles missed alone is such a massive improvement for our very own Cruella de Ville. Outside of those improvements in stats, there were some other off-field improvements we saw from Cruella de Ville. First and foremost, the San Jose Sabercats were able to lock up Cruella de Ville for the majority of their career, extending them to a massive 7 year, 35 million dollar contract, which sures up their defensive stalwart at Right Outside Linebacker for the foreseeable future. This type of contract basically insures that Cruella de Ville is going to be a Sabercat for life, unless they ask to be traded. How often do you get to lock up such an amazing piece, and such an amazing locker room presence and leader in the locker room for a lifetime contract? It was obvious to me, at least, that @Exilizer was a sure fire extension, and that bringing them back into the fold is going to push San Jose's Defense to the promised land of being one of the strongest defenses there can be. Cruella de Ville is here to stay and will continue to improve and show why they are one of the best, if not the best linebacker in the league. I truly believe that these drastic improvements will put the league on notice for sure. (341 words) 16. (5 TPE) The San Jose Sabercats journey this past season was one of pain, suffering, but also promise for the future. Sadly, the San Jose Sabercats finished an abysmal 6-10, especially starting the season out the gate 0-4. With their first three games being decided by one score or less, losing by 7, 7, and then 3, it really puts a damper on the beginning of the season. Week 4, the reigning champions, the Arizona Outlaws laid the smack down on San Jose and whooped them 27-3. San Jose was able to bounce back with two wins, 30-13 over the Secondline and 41-31 surprise upset over the New York Silverbacks. Things were looking up, until they were shot down again with 2 more heartbreaking 1 score losses, 37-31 to Honolulu and a 32-24 loss to the Austin Copperheads. After that, San Jose woke up and beat Chicago 31-26, just to lose again to Cape Town 31-13 and Orange County again 24-12. We then headed into New Orleans and won again, 27-24, and got our revenge on the Arizona Outlaws 30-17. We capped the season with a loss to the Silverbacks, 34-28. All in all, we had finished 3-6 in one score games, and just a few slight changes and improvements across the board, we could easily turn around a couple of those games and potentially finish 8-8 or 9-7. San Jose has a lot to look up to with these close wins against teams that some would say we had no business being even close to, and all in all, you can easily see what were the highpoints and the low points this past season. I don't think there is much we could have done differently, but my expectations for next season are at least a .500 record. If we can secure ourselves in those 1 score games and turn around some of those games that should have been wins (I think we should have beat Orange County at home, at least), then I could totally see San Jose making a push for .500 and who knows, maybe even a late playoff birth next year. The Yellowknife Wraiths are one of the original franchises in the league. That means they have 43 seasons worth of players and users that have come through the hallowed halls and helped build a long and somewhat complicated legacy. In the early days of the league, the team had some challenges and difficulties winning the big game. There were some championships, then a bit of a drought as the league expanded and became even more competitive. Then, in the last ten seasons or so, the Wraiths were a consistent contender at the very top of the league, before now finding themselves in another rebuilding phase. During that time, there have been a number of critical players and users who have come onto the team and made their mark. The list here below is not exhaustive, and there are many who are not noted simply because of time and ignorance on the part of this writer.
In no particular order, I'd like to start my writing by talking about quarterback Colby Jack, and the user FlyEaglesFly. If you ask someone about the Yellowknife Wraiths, particularly the several seasons of dominance they had starting around Season 26, they would sight quarterback Colby Jack as a major reason why the team was so successful. Colby played eight total seasons for the Wraiths, throwing for over 37,000 yards and 262 touchdowns in his career. He retired with a career quarterback rating of 95.5. He won the Ultimas twice, and was also a won the league MVP twice as well. On top of that, he made the probowl in six out of the eight seasons he played with the team. He is the Wraiths career leader in just about every passing category, and top then in a number of league categories as well. On top of all of that, Fly was also the General Manager of the team for the majority of his career with the Wraiths, which saw the Wraiths build into a perennial contender and champion. Another key name in the long annals of Yellowknife Wraith history is Kalam Mekhar, and the user Zoot. Kalam was a cornerback and played ten seasons with the Wraiths. During that time, he won an Ultimas championship and Defensive Player of the Year twice, a very difficult feat for a cornerback. He also made the Pro-Bowl five times, and holds prominent places in several career metric lists, like second in pass defenses and fifth in defensive touchdowns. On top of these critical contributions to the team and a traditionally un-sung position, Zoot was a key force behind the scenes both as a member of the war room and as a General Manager of the team. Through is play on the field and his contributions through Kalam (and his previous player who played at tight end and contributed to the Colby Jack years), he had a major impact on the team. It would be impossible to put a list together of some of the top Wraiths players over the years without mentioning the name Kai Sakura. The standard-bearer for wide receiver play, Sakura amassed 15,622 total yards receiving in his career, giving him the highest marks by close to 800 yards over his next closest rival. Sakura played for the Wraiths a mind-boggling eleven total seasons, winning two championships. He was a Pro-bowler for eight of those seasons, and also finished his career with 101 receiving touchdowns, good for fourth all time. In Season 30, he had perhaps the best season ever for a wide receiver, collecting 1948 total yards and adding in 15 touchdowns. Behind the scenes, DarknessRising was a key piece of both the war and locker rooms for the team, helping to build squads that would win multiple championships during his tenure.

PBE affiliate. Bazooka Joe +2.5 TPE 16. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? Man, The Royals have been a huge help throughout this season and then some. I want to give a huge shout out to the General Manager's and some of the players for making my transition to this league an easy one. The Wiki page seemed easy, but I will get that figured out I promise. As for this season. The Royals came up short and we all can admit it. To start the Season 2-0 and the hype was real. I even seemed to be a viable running back with not much TPE at that point. Then came a four-game skid, and to have a four-game losing streak in football is going to hurt your playoff chances no matter what. We finally found a win against a good Birddogs team, and we went on to split for most of the year until we ended the season on a three-game banger. It hurts to be somewhat close and to not make the playoffs, but this team has some active users and will be looking to build on top of this season. As for Joe Bazooka? Let me tell you what, I was not expecting this type of season. Started out with a slow first game but in the second game he scored two touchdowns and got the game ball. Granted he only ran for 40 yards that is all they needed for a win. The next game was a loss, but Bazooka got his first reception touchdown, and it was big hype in the Lockeroom after that. The season kind of went stale for a few games and I won't waste your time as there wasn't much scoring from the Offense and we put the defense in horrible spots throughout that losing streak. To think of it we may have put the Defense in some hard spots the whole season but that is for another article. In week seven Joe ran for 124 yards and a score and the very next week he ran for 118 and two scores. That was probably the highlight of his season. 346 words +5 TPE 27. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why? (Written Task) I've thought about this a lot as when I originally joined, I wanted to go for it all and become a Quarterback. At the time I didn't know if I wanted to max earn or not, but I knew I wanted to be on the offensive side of the ball, so I went with Fullback. Horrible choice for some of these teams and it didn't take me long to move to Running back for London. For my ISFL scouting I have been pretty open to all general managers about moving positions and it won't hurt me to do so. I have told them all that I would prefer to stay on the offensive side of the ball but if they need a big meaty Linebacker I could do it. My top choices would be to stay a Running back, Quarterback or a wide receiver. If it would be on the Defensive side? a Linebacker or maybe a Safety would be fun. 161 words +2.5 TPE +10 TPE Code: 15. If you could create a team using any active players in the league, what would that team look like? Would you build a group of all-stars to contend in the next Ultimus, or a team full of jokesters for the fun of it? Describe the roster and why you chose the players you did. (Written or Graphic Task) RB: Michaelangelo McTurtle @slothfacekilla - Another amazing user, Sloth has finally had some of the sim luck he deserves lately, as his Silverbacks won the ASFC and made the Ultimus. He led the league in rushing touchdowns with 16 and had nearly 2,000 all-purpose yards. WR: Johnny Blaze Jr. @JBLAZE_THE_BOSS - Dude was a great teammate when I played in Sarasota, and I'm super happy for the success he's seeing as the clear #1 option for the Sailfish these days. He led the league with 129 catches, 1914 yards, and 17 touchdowns. To call it a monster season would be an understatement. OL: Nathan Meagher @Nathan - Great LR presence in Berlin, where my last player is entering his corpse season. 132 pancakes last season is hugely impressive, and big shouts to the unsung heroes that play O-line in the league! DL: Wing Gundam @ctots - One of my favorite sim leaguers ever, the young DE had an impressive 7 sacks in his rookie season for Sarasota. LB: Carissa van Campen @mer - Hannah is another user who is always a great pick in any sim league, and is always fun and kind! van Campen had 79 tackles and 3 sacks for the always strong Arizona Outlaws. DB: Jasper Fontaine @lordcoolcats - Wow, DB might be the coolest collection of users in the league! LCC gets the nod here as the TPE leader at Safety, and as one of the sim leaguers I'd most love to have a beer with! Fontaine had 61 tackles, 8 picks, and 22 pass deflections last season. K/P: Swantavius King @Yeenoghu - Gimme that max earning kicker! He'll always be Mag to me, and he's another amazing sim leaguer who does a ton for the league and is an outstanding teammate and war room member. King went 28/32 on FGs last season and averaged almost 47 yards per punt. As you can tell, I selected players based on the outstanding users behind them, with a slight lean towards those who killed it on the field as well. This team would not only be incredible, but the locker room would be top notch! (401 words) Code: 27. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. Task 10 - 5 TPE:
Being commissioner for a day would mean that the people with developing qualities would have a lot of work that day, as it's going to be a 24 hour madhouse to be able to build what I want in just one day. As you know I am already in quite a few sim leagues, and what is the biggest amount of work for these leagues. Indeed, updating your players, regressing your players, cross link all affiliate tasks and do point tasks. So why not make these easier? I would like to have our current bank portal expanded into an update portal. All claims that are done are automatically added to the players, all their trainings, predictions, activity checks, wiki tasks, you name it. If you did it, the points will be added to your player automatically (or delayed, but still without input from the user). By just having to do the tasks and the system taking care of the rest we would see less people having issues with updating and this will help the growth of the league as people will stay around longer if they dont have to do the annoying stuff. But I won't stop there, as regression and such can also be tackled through it, we need to think bigger. We have affliates in the SHL and PBE so they need to be included. At the moment a user makes a task in one of these leagues, it should automatically be linked to the other leagues. Is it technically possible? I don't know, but in the 24 hours I am in charge, I would make sure it would at least be investigated. Users will still need to do the effort in doing the actual tasks, but we make the administrative part of it a lot easier. So with this I believe I helped the league retain more users in my 24 hours, a job well done if I would say so. Choose ONE for 10 TPE. 1. The Season 43 Ultimus and Ultimini have officially come to an end. Congratulations to the the Portland Pythons and Baltimore Hawks for each winning their respective championships. How did each of the finalists in either the Ultimus or Ultimini arrive at the playoffs? Were there any teams that surprised or disappointed during the playoffs? Did the outcome of either championship game surprise you at all? Well we have now seen another great season of dot football come to and end and congratulations to both the Portland Pythons and Baltimore Hawks for their respective championships, it always feels good to be at the top of the mountain! For this analysis I will have a look back at the Baltimore Hawks and their journey to being at the top of said mountain. Coming into the season, the Baltimore Hawks were seen as one of the top contenders for the ultimate crown and starting the season, they definitely delivered on these hopes for the franchise. They started the season with an impressive five game win streak which was not the easiest stretch. In that run they had wins over playoff hopefulls in the National Simulation Football Conferece with Cape Town Crash and Yellowknife Wraiths, althought both were at home. They also went on the road and defeated the Sarasota Sailfish and Berlin Fire Salamanders. Their initiaö season run had all parts of the team on fire, with a dominating defense that only allowed Sarasota Sailfish to score more than 20 points on them. On the other side of the ball, their offense was led by one of the star quarterbacks in the lead in Preston Beatz and his wealth of offensive skill position skills players. The running game was a true force with Archipelago and Pyxis both chipping in and star wideouts Rocky Moreaux and Shane Turnbull putting in great performances. After this run they were upstaged by the defending champions on the road in the Arizona Outlaws which is a tough game for anyone. Their otherwise stalwart defense was not able to handle the running power of both Sherwin Blue Jr. and Dotts main man Danny Nedelko. After this small blip, the rest of their regular season was mostly a success. They were able to take out tough opponents on the road, again both the Cape Town Crash and the Yellowknife Wraiths along with many other foes. Small questions will be asked in what happened with the tie to the Austin Copperheads and the loss to the Colorado Yeti, but sometimes the gods of this universe will tell them that unfortunately the sim will sim and you will have to deal with it. In any case, the finished the regular season with a strong 13-2 record and pipped the Cape Town Crash to the number one seed in the National Simulation Football Conference, with their 2-0 season sweep of the Crash playing a big part Entering the playoffs, The Baltimore Hawks were able to enjoy a rest during the first week and see their future opponents duke it out. In the conference championship game they came up against the Cape Town Crash for another rematch and man did this game deliver. It was a real slobber knocker of a match between the titans with the defenses on top for most of the game. In the end the difference was a 52 yard field goal by Makmur with 16 seconds left on the clock to give the Baltimore Hawks the lead and the game. Cape Town had 16 seconds left was unable to spike the ball to give their kicker a chance after driving into field goal range, I guess thanks to the sim. Onto the Ultimus the Baltimore Hawks marched and there they would face the cream of the crop from the American Simulation Football Conferece, the New York Silverbacks. The final would be another defensive slugfest with each team only scoring one touchdown. The quarterbacks were sacked a total of 12 times! In the end the difference was between the kickers, with Makmur making his final two kicks and Wang on the other side missing his last one and the Baltimore Hawks end up winning 16-10 |
