Big shout out to @caleb.grim for this idea based off his Dominator Power Rankings (found here: https://forums.sim-football.com/showthre...?tid=48703). Selfishly, I wanted to see how my player, Emerson Bigguns, stacks up against the other defensive rookies of S45. As such, I will be tracking the weekly stats of each of the 18 defensive rookies and giving them a Power Ranking based off a score calculated from a modified fantasy formula found below.
How the DROY Power Ranking Score is Calculated
Currently, the ISFL Fantasy scoring for defense is as follows:
1 point per Tackle (excluding TFLs)
3 points per TFL
3 points per Sack
4 points per INT
2 point per PD
5 points per Safety
6 points per TD
3 points per FF
4 points per FR
4 points per P Blk
4 points per FG Blk
4 points per XP Blk
However, this puts linebackers at a huge advantage because of their positional flexibility. For instance, here are the top S44 fantasy scorers on defense:
1. LB Akayre, A = 257pts
2. LB Hammer, S = 248pts
3. LB Honestly, M = 245pts
…another 4 LBs
8. CB Williams, J = 202pts
…another 3 LBs
12. CB Andrews, H = 195pts
…another 36 LBs/DBs
49. DT Gago, M = 144pts
Additionally, here are some considerations after looking at the stats from S44:
-You have to go through 76 defensive players before you get to the defensive lineman with the most tackles; DT Joseph Reed with 66. Compared to the player with the most tackles, LB Cruella de Ville with 145.
-Of the 21 players that had 100 tackles, none were defensive lineman and only 4 were CBs (because by their positional nature outside the box, they are further away from the ball initially and during run plays).
-Of the 84 players that had at least one TFL, only 4 were DBs (who all four only had 1 TFL).
-Of the 33 players that had at least 5 TFLs, only 5 were defensive lineman (with only 2 in the top 15).
-Of the 80 players that had at least one INT, none were defensive lineman.
-Of the 119 players that had at least one PD, none were defensive lineman.
Therefore, to close this gap to make it more equitable scoring system, below is how scoring will be altered adjusting for positional differences.
-Linebackers will use the current standard scoring.
-Defensive Backs will score the same as linebackers except for:
1.5 points per Tackle (excluding TFLs)
6 points per TFL
4 points per Sack
-Defensive Linemen will score the same as linebackers except for:
2 points per Tackle (excluding TFLs)
5 points per TFL
4 points per Sack
8 points per Int (which never occurred in S44)
8 points per PD (which never occurred in S44)
So what does this adjusted scoring system look like applied to S44:
1. LB Akayre, A = 257pts
2. LB Hammer, S = 248pts
3. LB Honestly, M = 245pts
8. CB Williams, J = 202pts -> 254pts
12. CB Andrews, H = 195pts -> 248.5pts
49. DT Gago, M = 144pts -> 239pts
57. DT Reed, J = 137pts -> 255pts
I am also adding a +2pts if that players team wins their game. I believe that awards should go to players who make their team better. Yes, “sim gonna sim”, that is why it is a nominal +2pts which would have adjusted these scores below to become:
1. LB Akayre, A = 257pts -> 275pts
2. LB Hammer, S = 248pts -> 272pts
3. LB Honestly, M = 245pts -> 263pts
8. CB Williams, J = 202pts -> 254pts -> 278pts
12. CB Andrews, H = 195pts -> 248.5pts -> 266.5pts
49. DT Gago, M = 144pts -> 239pts -> 255pts
57. DT Reed, J = 137pts -> 255pts -> 261pts
Now that everything is in order, let us take a look at Week 1.
