The butterfly effect is a very powerful phenomena, and one that lives rent free in the head of Donovan Winters. There are many chance events that led Donovan to his current state, what if some of them had turned out differently? Donovan was a very good athlete, and could have pitched for his high school baseball team, had he chosen to. Donovan instead specialized in football from an early age, and kept the baseball aspirations on the back burner, only occasionally throwing around a baseball, as to not damage his shoulder. Donovan often wonders what life would have been like on the mound. While Donovan has had a few down seasons in the ISFL, he still has had a very strong career overall playing football. What if Donovan had ended up pitching in the Pro Baseball Experience? Could he have won the rookie of the year award and a championship? Would he have ended up on as fun of a team as Arizona is?
The biggest chance for Chappy McChapperson would be if he had to move to another position. Unfortunately Chappy wasn't blessed with an athletic profile and is only good at throwing the ball. This has shown on his consistent negative yardage per season in rushing stats. If Chappy has to switch to a different role, way Wide Receiver or Running Back, he would probably not even make the ISFL, and at best be a mediocre player for the DSFL if he was lucky enough to get in. The most likely scenario is that he moves towards Kicker/Punter, this would allow him to utilize his leg like he does his arm and not have to focus on the other parts of his unathletic self. I believe that move would keep him in the running for an ISFL career and keep some bread on the table. The worst position swap would be a lineman as Chappy does not have the constitution to get to that size.
Well my career is pretty short so far, but I was the 3rd QB taken in the last DSFL draft. Bugs went to BBB about 5 or so picks before and then Norfolk traded up 1 spot with TIJ. Norfolk wound up taking Dyson after trading up and TIJ settled for picking me. I’m sure TIJ was comfortable with either QB, so they let NOR make the choice for them. So far into my rookie season, I don’t just lead all rookies in QB rating and completion percentage, I lead all QBs. I’m also 2nd in the league in TDs behind fellow rookie Dyson. Dyson is also having a significantly good season, so I’d say both teams won on that trade. However, who’s to say that Dyson fits as well with the TIJ play style or if I got as well with the NOR play style. In this scenario of “what ifs” both teams came out on top and I don’t think either can say they made the better choice. Obviously 4 games is a small amount and more will be decided as the season goes on.
Paul Dosza had a few butterfly effect moments in his life that lead him to ending up playing for the Outlaws from Arizona in the International Simulation Football League. One of the ones early on in his life was playing some cricket in the back yard of his family's house in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. This was around christmas time so all of the extended family was around to celebrate the holidays and as always there ended up being a family game of cricket. Paul was up to bowl and after a few deliveries his cousin that was 7 years older than him turned to an 8 year old Paul and told him "You really aren't very good at this cricket thing are you." This was just a dagger to the heart of Paul and something he carried with him for the rest of his life and he used it as constant fuel to be the best he could be but he never played cricket again.
If Dru Freduci had been drafted to another team other than the Cape Town Crash there could be a lot of things that had changed because of it. One prime example of things that could have changed if I had been drafted to another would be that I would have had more free time away from game planning for the opposition. I was invited by the head coaches to help run game theory throughout the week to best plan for the opposing team, and this is something I may not have had the opportunity to do if I had been drafted somewhere else.
Another great example of things that could have changed if I were drafted to another team would be that I may not have been as readily accepted as a member of the team, The Crash have truly made it a seemless transition from the college ranks to the professional ones, and I am incredibly grateful for that.
Dewey Greenbeans has made a number of decisions that specifically brought him to the path of stardom. Choosing the University of Miami led him to a string of fortuitous events including injuries to other Safeties. It allowed the world to see Dewey in his prime. The choice to take magic mushrooms at half time of a high school football game and play without shoulder pads was a choice that led to reservations among the DSFL teams when draft day was approaching. Dewey saw the writing on the wall and decided not to declare or play. But a change of heart after watching Week 1 pushed him to enter the waiver pool, where he was selected quickly by the lovely Dallas Birddogs. Without these serendipitous choices, Dewey would, without a doubt, still be living in Miami and certainly never cheering for a Dallas team. Now we watch to see if Dewey can turn his 4th DSFL season into a potential bid for the Dalls Birddogs Hall of Fame.

I suppose the single biggest change that could have happened in Paul Edgecomb does come from his choice of "school". He, of course, didn't attend traditional college nor play in the NCAA, but was a prison guard at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary from 1919 until 1935. Had he made the decision to follow his father and work at the family store, he wouldn't have played football for 13 years as team captain against his friend Brutus "Brutal" Howell. Had that not happened, he would never have returned to football in 2059, but of course more notably, he wouldn't have had the opportunity. Had Paul Edgecomb not worked at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary, he wouldn't have taken over supervision of the Green Mile, and he wouldn't have met John Coffey. Without John Coffey, Paul would not have survived to his current age of 169, and he certainly couldn't have picked back up the sport of football at 167. Considering the rest of the events on the Green Mile, it's a very good thing Edgecomb made the choices he did at the time, and hopefully the New Orleans Second Line will get to benefit from it as well.
