With the recent Cushing debacle, I think it’s time we take a long look at user bets. The Cushing bet was one that never should have been allowed to be made in the first place, and just taking a cursory glance through the bets made, there are many more. While there doesn’t seem to be any ulterior motives in that particular bet, it is currently far too easy to abuse the current system as there is little to no policing of the bets made.
What’s to stop me from making a one-sided bet with a teammate or friend on another team as a means of sending them money? Or making a bet on something that a group of people can control the outcome of (eg. If a player makes the pro bowl)?
Simply put, either user bets need to be policed better, there needs to be a strict set of guidelines in place, or the system needs to be eliminated entirely.
