23. What are your thoughts on the sim engine? What sort of improvements would you make to the sim engine if given the opportunity?
One thing the sim is terrible at and has always needed a bit of tuning on is punt, field goal, or go for it decision making. Mostly, the sim decides to punt often when a field goal is within relatively decent range. At, the 30 yard line, it often punts, when a 40 yd FG there is relatively certain for most kickers. I'm sure some data nerd has the exact percentages. Its frustrating to see your team punt it while down 3 late in the 4th quarter instead of at least trying a field goal. Another thing is often the pass/run ratios seem to be pointless and the sim does whatever it wants. Or your team is up big but its still passing away instead of grinding the clock on the ground. Also, sim luck seems to be a thing. Granted the 'any given Sunday' logic is true but when your team misses the playoffs by losing to 2 teams that are clearly tanking/rebuilding its certainly something to gripe about! (195 words) 26. if your player wasn't a professional in the ISFL/DSFL, what would they be doing instead? If we are being realistic, ol Max would probably still be living in the Bayou and hunting gators while drinking Natty Light and going shirtless if he hadn't the opportunity to play professional football, but he really is intrigued by the idea of being a professional pilot. Max flies quite regularly when the team travels to away games, and also to get to Yellowknife, since it's in the middle of nowhere. However, he'd like to try his hand at being the pilot. He has a few hours in Microsoft Flight Simulator, so it can't be that hard, right? All jokes aside, Max would love to get his pilot's license and buy his own plane. With his big ISFL salary, he has the money, so he just needs to make the time. But flying all over the world to exotic destinations, while wearing a jaunty cap is something that Max would have liked to have done if he didn't play football. (160 words) 29. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? Why? Well I think my own team has the best branding but that's a cop out answer so I'll go with the second best team, and that's the Honolulu Hahalua. Kinda of the polar opposite location from my Yellowknife, except its also really far away from everyone else. When you say it, it seems like it would be hard to spell but its rather phonetic when you get down to it. But, there's not a lot better location than the sunny shorts of Hawaii for a football team. The weather is always nice and world class beaches beckon you to put off your responsibilities and put your swim trunks on. I do appreciate the thought that went into picking Hahalua instead of something more obvious like surfing or pineapples. Plus giant manta rays are really cool and seem kinda like big derpy sea puppies, at least in videos on youtube. Going with a traditional Hawaiian name pays homage to the island and its people, and its a very pleasing logo to look at as well.(174 words) 36. PBE affiliate +2.5 TPE 10 total TPE Quote:9. (300 words) There have been many moments in league history where a single decision (e.g., a draft choice, a GM’s promotion or retirement, a trade, a player’s movement in free agency) may have changed the course of a team in the ISFL or DSFL. Describe a decision that was made and the impact that it had. Did you imagine said decision leading to a different conclusion or did you think things would turn out the way they did? Is there anything different you would have done to avoid disaster or make things even better? I'd argue, being as humble as I possibly can, that @dude_man holding to his guns and drafting good ol Bourtol Halcomsby at 18 overall was a team defining moment. Now, its important to note that I am not implying that I revolutionized the league, the Baltimore Hawks or the locker room, by no means. What I am implying is that things take a fun turn when you let them do so. I was quite up front with most scouts, that I was going to do the best I could with the ISFL, but that I wasn't in a position to guarantee max earning, max LR participation, or anything that would resemble a slam dunk elite draft pick. I'm an SHL transfuge that joined looking to scratch the early sim league itch, to scratch the drafting process itch, and for some reason, dude saw something in me and trusted that selection with Bourtol. I don't think by any means i'm a steal, but Bourtol would prove to be pivotal in Baltimore's success. Would he be elite? no. Would he win individual awards? he got close, but in the end could only reach defense all-pro, which isn't anything to be mad about. That said, his performances would prove especially clutch in their Ultimus clinching squad during Season 43. ''Pass by Falco, B., to McHollywood ©, M. INTERCEPTION by Halcomsby, B. at the NYS - 12 yard line and returned for 12 yards. TOUCHDOWN!'' In what would be a defensively tight game that Baltimore would win 16-10, Bourtol Halcomsby, the mid earning Safety from Pennsylvania, would score the game's only touchdown, propulsing his team to a first Ultimus win in 10 seasons. I'd argue anyone else could've done it, but things are often a succession of decisions being made, good ones and bad ones. I don't know if the selection was good, but what I do know is that it ended up paying off for dude_man and the Hawks! Quote:22. Make a scouting report for any of the ISFL or DSFL draftees. The rookie was weighing his options when first approached about being called up to play a little out of position. But in the end he decided it was time to move up and start competing with the big boys in the ISFL. Now almost instantly this made an impact with the other two options being massive deep threats and taking almost all the attention from the top corners Purdy was able to slot in and be what we started to refer to as the check down king. No matter the game is seemed that when in trouble that Winters was able to check down and find Purdy in the flats or under the coverage. It turned out this that decision to come up would play a critical role in the teams success this season. The numbers really don’t lie and when the dust settled Purdy being the 2nd highest yards for receiving in the league stands out for the rookie. Adding 8 touchdowns on top of that is the icing on the cake. Now this helped them secure the 2nd seed in the playoffs but where this decision really came out in the end was in the playoffs. The first game against the Second Line was an all out war and ended with the outlaws winning in OT Purdy was able to add 97 yards and a TD which helped keep the Outlaws in the game. In the conference finals Purdy once again added 82 yards on his 7 catches and added a TD Tie the game late before Bamford was able to secure there chances at the Ultimus. Now in the finals Purdy had an incredible game and was named the offensive player of the game with his 9 catches for 151 yards he lead all receivers. Including a couple critical first downs. This is why this decision to come up and play had such an incredible impact on the outlaws this season. WC:379 Quote:17. Going to Disney World! Who was the Ultimus or Ultimini Game MVP? After winning the Ultimus and being named the Offensive player of the game Purdy Mediocre joined his teammates on a trip to Disney world! It was a big parade through the main park carrying the Ultimus trophy and of course having some “root beer and chips” (lets keep it pg) and would be out there signing autographs and taking selfies with all the fans that are lucky enough to be there with them! What better place to celebrate the fantasy every kid has growing up of winning the championship then doing it at Disney world! You have princesses and all your favorite characters around with hundreds if not thousands of fans to celebrate with! The best part of this is having the all access pass and getting to see behind the closed doors that only the staff know about! This is where the real partying will start to happen! 8. So far in the league, my experience has been really good. Even though I'm at a busy point in the year, and I haven't had too much time to be on Discord or anything, I've still had a great time in my first season. The guys at KCC have been really helpful and I'm happy to be a part of the team there, both as a player and as a scout. It's been really interesting to see the front office side of things, and all the work that goes into scouting, drafting, team-building, etc, that doesn't really work its way into the spotlight all that much. As for stuff on the field, I think it's gone a lot better than I could have expected at the start of the season. Despite switching positions, which I definitely wasn't expecting off the bat, I thought that I had a really solid rookie season, especially as it went on and I improved steadily throughout the year. Big Tractor led all rookies in receptions and receiving yards. If he gets another season or two in the DSFL, which I imagine will happen, he could definitely be going for the league leader spot. Even though hopping up to the ISFL is the goal, and it's the big thing everyone wants to do, I'm fine with staying in the development level for a bit to win an Ultimini. With the draft coming soon, I'm excited to see where I'll be getting to go on the ISFL level. Getting drafted for any video game is really fun just because you get to see how people evaluate you and it typically comes with some expectations. It's a crowded draft up at the top levels, so I'm not expecting to go super high, but late-first to early-second would be cool.
14. I think that the league should expand to include a relegation/punishment division that plays in front of 12 fans in Greece every weekend. It could be called the GSFL (Greek Simulation Football League) or perhaps the LSFL (Loser Simulation Football League) and consist of the last-ranked DSFL team of the previous season plus several expansion teams to offload current players, who would be chosen by drawing lots. There is a lot of potential for some great team names, like the Athens Ants, the Thessaloniki Titans (the real titans), the Argos Ants, the Kavala Kronos, the Sparta Spartans, or the Archaia Ants. The coaches would be required to dress in togas, so all graphics would have to correspond to this, and players would have hoplite-inspired uniforms that would also have to be reflected in the graphics. Players and teams relegated to the GSFL/LSFL would be capped in earning TPE, with the exception of one fun and engaging avenue. They would have the ability to pay $10 for a TPE Crate, which would include an undetermined amount of TPE or league cash. which they could then put towards their player. To really drive the point home as well, all players would be capped at 100 TPE, providing a wonderful viewing experience for the hypothetical Greek fans. Winning the championship, which would be called the Ultiminiature (there's a lack of good phrases to use here), would allow the championship team to move back up to the DSFL along with its players. Those who didn't quite make it face the prospect of being trapped for the rest of their career. believe that there is a lot of potential with an expanded league like this, and I am in firm belief that the front office should divert all time and resources towards making the GSFL/LSFL a reality.

10. Being the league’s commissioner for a day would probably be fun, not to mention the fact that I can do whatever i want for a day.
The first thing i would do would be to improve the Fantasy football drafting, just to make QOL changes, because It can be annoying going through the files on mobile to see who and who hasn’t been drafted yet. What would I do? Probably allow the fantasy football Mods to make a copy, edit it, and delete names as they get drafted, It’s more work, which is why I would improve salaries for workers. Bonuses to league winning GMs! Being a GM is hard, which is why I would provide a 10 million dollar bonus to what ever ISFL Gm(s) wins the Ultimus, and 5 million to which ever DSFL Gm(s) win the Ultimini, I feel that this provided Gms to try more, and brings even more competition to the league, which is always a good thing Fire Baz Make a rule that i’m commissioner forever, After making those 3 changes, most of the people in the league will love me and i will be respected enough to be allowed to stay commissioner forever. Give new usere 10 million off the start, Why? Because they will spend the money, realize that they can do things with money by example, and they’ll want more money which means they’ll make media, graphics, and join FF and overall help the league out I think Those are the things i would do if i was league commissioner for a day, Basically fixing some needed changes and also doing things people would really like(Fire Baz). I hope people agree with me as I feel these are good changes the league needs, not that it need any but like I said, QOL changes are best for business. 302 Words 27. I would’ve picked WR because that’s what i played in highschool and it was a ton of fun, The dopamine hit after catching a pass is second to none. I honestly would consider a position switch to WR just because how much I love it. Same with being a TE, being able to block someone and catching a pass on the same play is also a joy. I remember playing Defensive End and that was fun, but I already had a player in that position, and while I liked it, I would want to play something different. If I had to pick something on defense it would probably be DT or Safety, But if I had to choose something it would be WR. Pretty much how i explained it, i loved playing it in highschool, It's a position that can rack up a ton of sacks, and there’s plenty of WRs in the ISFL so there’s tons of competition 159 words 29.I think that the Berlin Fire Salamanders have the best branding out of any team in the ISFL or DSFL. The thing i like the most is the name, The Fire Slaamanders is an interesting name that you really don’t see a lot. You see sports teams using the Hawks, Buccaneers, Coyotes(Rip Arizona) But Fire Salamanders is an interesting name followed by a great logo and color shceme. I love the Red Yellow and Black as it really fits whatever you would want to describe a “Fire Salamander” Not to mention the fact that I do like the logo. The Logo is another favorite of mine, I had no idea what’s Salamander was or if it could be on fire. I do also love the different fonts for the logo “Berlin” is formal and so is the “Salamander part but the “Fire” is in a different font that makes it stick out. 153 words
3. Holy shit, we did it again. That's 2 out of the last 3 seasons that we've predicted the two Ultimus teams. We correctly predicted that the Outlaws and Crash would play each other for the title last season, and while it was touch and go for a bit, we ultimately got both of those teams right, which is a nice departure from getting both teams wrong the season prior, where we picked both OCO and COL. Let's see if we can go 3 for 4 in picking the Ultimus teams!
Let's start with the NSFC this time, as I think i've historically begun these write-ups with the ASFC. The NSFC is a weird spot still. It's becoming much more even keeled than it has been in years past, but there are still a few teams that stand out above the rest. BAL still should be the strongest team in the conference, returning a ton of talent and looking to bolster their roster a little bit more. They continue to find ways to fight off regression and keep the team intact, and it leads to. a ton of winning. However, BAL looked terrible in the final few weeks of the season last year, and while I know it's a new season up ahead, that bug can be hard to shake. Beyond BAL, I think you have the previous conference champion in CTC, followed up by one of the luckiest teams last season in CHI. I expect CTC to be better next season, but with the inconsistency of the running QB, I'm just not sure what to expect. CTC looked dead in the water at the midway point of the season and ended up in the Ultimus. Meanwhile, CHI had an incredible season last year and ended up as the 1 seed in the playoffs. Was it luck or is this team good? I have no idea, but I don't expect them to have a repeat performance this season. After these top 3 teams, we have SAR, YKW, COL, and BER. COL and BER are deep in rebuilds right now, so I wouldn't expect them to be competing or fighting for spots, although I think BER ends up better than most expect next season. Not a whole lot to say about SAR and YKW either as SAR continues to build on the current core and stay even keeled. YKW is very close to peaking, and I actually expect them to replace CHI in the playoff picture this season. All that to say, I see the following: BAL CTC YKW CHI BER SAR COL Moving to the ASFC, it's a little clearer than it was last season where we had a 4 team dog fight for 3 playoff spots. AZ is coming off another Ultimus appearance and win, so expect them to be competitive again. SJS is current in their peak window, and the team is only getting better, so expect them to be pretty close to repeating last seasons performance. NOLA eeked out a playoff spot after a strong middle of the season and some unlucky bounces for OCO. They are another team whose still not fully peaked, but showed promise last season. The bottom 4 are kind of all over the place, OCO decided to sell off most everything this offseason and should be worse for the next few. AUS is kind of rebuilding, but are also trying to ensure that the golden years of their current QB aren't wasted, so I would expect them to try and be aggressive this season and the next to make sure that they can compete without having to fully commit to a rebuild. NYS has fully entered the rebuild stage as well, so a down year seems in the works. HON was rightfully one of the worst teams last year and were rewarded with a ton of high draft picks this offseason following their tankathon the season before. I see the ASFC playing out as follows: SJS NOLA AZ AUS OCO HON NYS But, what does this mean for the end of the season though? It's a tough call, but I think my gut is telling me BAL and NOLA. That being said, would not be surprised if either team is bounced out somewhere along the lines by either AZ or SJS (in NOLAs case) or BAL losing to either YKW or CTC. If we want some crazy picks, let's go with YKW and SJS. |
