S43 ISFL Re-Draft
A few notes before getting started:
- We see lots of IA's in this draft. It doesn't mean the original pick was bad at the time. It just didn't work out. This is simply for entertainment.
- Scouting convos and locker room fits play a big role in the actual draft. Unless there was an obvious connection, this was not considered much here.
- Team needs now versus back in S43 are obviously different. This didn't play a huge role here, although we tried to consider where the new pick would fit in now.
- Please split pay between me and @baz.
Round 1
1. Arizona Outlaws - Thomas Sutha
Original Pick: Thomas Sutha
TPE Rank: 4
New Pick Difference: Even
baz Notes: We made a pretty easy decision here and whether we think someone else may be more worthy for TPE difference, the difference Lemon makes as a new user and a user of AZ is dramatic locking him into this pick. We did want to try and vary as many picks as we could but this one felt pretty locked in for me.
swoosh Notes: With the first overall pick, it’s hard to imagine Arizona going in any other direction than Thomas Sutha. As we all know, lemon would go on to become GM in Arizona, taking over for .simo who we’ll see a little later. Starting his career off at wide receiver, lemon would swap to linebacker to help the team with Bengi Aguilera and Jordan Bamford remaining at receiver. Plus, if lemon doesn’t go first we’d miss out on the constant reminders that he went 1oa. All jokes aside, lemon is a tremendous addition to the league in general and is a no brainer to take here. A slam dunk pick at the time remains a slam dunk pick in the re-draft.
2. Arizona Copperheads - Jay Cue III
Original Pick: Jay Cue III
TPE Rank: 1
New Pick Difference: Even
baz Notes: This is another boring same player at same spot but this user just fits what Austin has and what Austin needed. Jay Cue has been everything Austin wanted and more. I leaned Jay Cue here because of Austins needs at the time and the only other QB in this draft that was drafted somewhat high was a GM pick later on which we did keep constant.
swoosh Notes: Another “boring” pick for a re-draft in the sense that Austin goes with Jay Cue III once again. Opera_Phantom is your S43 TPE leader with 1,300, which is 50+ more than the next user in the class. Cue III has been off to a hot start since his call-up three seasons ago, posting over 12,000 passing yards, 86 touchdowns, and just 33 interceptions for a combined QB Rating of 95.2. Having their franchise quarterback in hand, Austin has to be thrilled for how this pick turned out.
3. Sarasota Sailfish - Crasher Wake
Original Pick: Gil Fischer (Previously Wing Gundam)
TPE Rank: 2
New Pick Difference: +7
baz Notes: In my opinion with Gil Fischer not max earning as of current the Sailfish look a different way but they look at someone who was on the DL still (Zodiac switched to LB), Zodiac is a great individual though and this is massive value for the Sailfish as Zodiac is currently #2 in earning. The Gil Fischer pick is a good pick but we are essentially capitalizing on some of this top talent.
swoosh Notes: Our first selection that ended up being a different user. Sarasota previously went Gil Fischer (Wing Gundam) here and while ctots is an incredible user, it’s hard to justify him being the pick once again as he’s 15th in his class in terms of TPE with a little over 900. Instead, the Sailfish grab Crasher Wake who is 2nd in TPE with over 1,200. Linebacker was a need for the Sailfish at the time, evident by their selection of Ignatious Cleetington just a few picks later in the real draft. While Cleetington would also be in play here, we wanted to mix things up and give Sarasota a different user. Wake has been on a tear, posting 39 sacks over the last two seasons.
4. Berlin Fire Salamanders - Ignatious Cleetington
Original Pick: Sack Sparrow
TPE Rank: 7
New Pick Difference: +2
baz Notes: With Water going IA, we have Berlin selecting a user that was very high on my board at NOLA and has been a great addition to the league with his work at Dallas GM and as a simmer/streamer. Radio is an absolutely steal of a pick from where he was if he were to be picked here, a great dude and would help Berlin grow.
swoosh Notes: Berlin is on the clock for back-to-back picks. While they took two great users, they didn’t exactly work out unfortunately. Sack Sparrow (great name), who was the original selection here, is 24th in terms of TPE. For the first re-pick, they grab Ignatious Cleetington. Radio is a user I had the privilege of seeing up close in Tijuana and while I don’t get to see him as often anymore, I trust he’s still up to great things in Sarasota. He’s 7th in terms of TPE and would be a great addition to any locker room. On the field, Cleetington is heating up, having just posted back-to-back double-digit sacks season. Berlin gets a star linebacker to build their defense around.
5. Berlin Fire Salamanders - Josh Gibson
Original Pick: Gaius Gleel
TPE Rank: 6
New Pick Difference: +7
baz Notes: Berlin take one of my favorite people from this draft Josh Gibson, he has been absolute legend for NOLA and is in top 6 of earning and is such a great presence in our locker room and has a voice in our war room even. I was stoked when he fell to me in this draft but unfortunately he does not fall to NOLA in a redraft.
swoosh Notes: The Fire Salamanders are back up, this time turning to Josh Gibson. I may be bias as someone who was in New Orleans during the Gibson pick, but he had no business falling to 12. A clear steal at the time, DoubleDub has lived up to that billing and is 6th in TPE. Originally a safety, Gibson would eventually swap to linebacker. DoubleDub’s positional flexibility would prove useful for Berlin, who could play him just about anywhere on defense.
6. Sarasota Sailfish - Robert Green
Original Pick: Ignatious Cleetington
TPE Rank: 9
New Pick Difference: +16
baz Notes: Unfortunately Sarasota does not luck out this time and Radio does not fall to them but they get another great user who is getting some DSFL GM experience under their belt in Rob. Rob is a great user and the Sailfish were in need of some safety help making this the perfect pick.
swoosh Notes: With Ignatious Cleetington being nabbed a couple of picks earlier, Sarasota is forced to go in a different direction. After taking a linebacker earlier, the Sailfish grab a safety here in Robert Green. RobJG2 is one of the highest risers in this re-draft at +16. Shout out to Austin who selected the #1, #2, and #9 users in terms of TPE. Green is one of the best available users here and would fill a need as Sarasota currently rosters just one safety.
7. Colorado Yeti - Bertie Mannering-Phipps
Original Pick: Swamp Maiden (Previously Dylan Duma)
TPE Rank: 13
New Pick Difference: +14
baz Notes: COL had originally picked Swamp Maiden at this pick who was a perfect user for COL, I can't deny that but in the redraft we give them someone who is still active in BMP. During scouting BMP seemed to enjoy his time in the Colorado LR and he would fill a position of need. Allowing the Yeti to bring in a great user and address this position.
swoosh Notes: Colorado originally went with Dylan Duma (Swamp Maiden), who was a tight end that switched to running back. Honey is a good user but unfortunately seems to have gone IA. With that in mind, the Yeti grab another running back here in Bertie Mannering-Phipps. BMP was originally drafted to Baltimore before signing with Arizona. As the lead back for the Outlaws last season, BMP put up just shy of 1,500 total yards and 16 touchdowns. bernardhibou is the second high riser in a row, this time at +14.
8. Berlin Fire Salamanders - Anakin Skywalker
Original Pick: Kyle Bessey
TPE Rank: 10
New Pick Difference: +7
baz Notes: Berlin also selected a RB and this RB did not remain active unfortunately as Kyle Bessey has now been traded the Salamanders scan the board for remaining running backs and happen upon Anakin Skywalker who would be absolutely great in their locker room we believe!
swoosh Notes: Berlin is back up with their third pick in the first 10 selections. After grabbing two defensive players earlier, they go with a running back here in Anakin Skywalker. The original pick was another running back in Kyle Bessey who went IA and is now in Baltimore, having swapped to fullback. I’m not an old league head but I recall being some chatter about FSF having a wilder side back in the day. In FSF’s words, he was “a gunslinger of words.” What I can say is FSF has been one of my favorite users I’ve had the privilege of GM’ing for and Berlin would be getting a great user here. As the lead back in Baltimore, Skywalker has put up over 1,500 total yards in each of the past two seasons, totaling 29 touchdowns. He’s 10th in TPE and is easily one of the best available players.
9. Sarasota Sailfish - Spruce Willis
Original Pick: Spruce Willis
TPE Rank: 11
New Pick Difference: Even
baz Notes: This one was pretty simple Spruce wanted to go to Sarasota allowing us to confirm this pick with a lot more ease. Regardless of that Spruce was willing to switch for them allowing them a lot of flexibilty making this a worth while pick regardless.
swoosh Notes: Another team picking for their third time already, the Sailfish are back on the clock. With their original pick of Spruce Willis (another great name) still on the board, this pick is a no brainer. Willis is 11th in TPE and currently anchors the Sailfish secondary. With Willis and earlier selection Robert Green, Sarasota would form quite the duo in the secondary. Willis has been a consistent performer for the Sailfish, starting for five seasons to date.
10. Austin Copperheads - Cheecago Boucher
Original Pick: Crasher Wake
TPE Rank: 12
New Pick Difference: +1
baz Notes: Cheecago Boucher still doesnt end up in Cheecago and ends up in Austin instead in this redraft. Austin had swapped Wake to LB and with the addition of Boucher they would no longer need a swap while addressing a position of need with a great user.
swoosh Notes: Austin is back up and they’re definitely bummed to see Crasher Wake no longer available. Wake would eventually go on to swap positions from defensive tackle to linebacker, so it makes sense to go with another linebacker here in Cheecago Boucher who just so happens to be the best available players in terms of TPE. Boucher on the field has been a game wrecker, posting four straight 10+ sacks seasons to start his career. This last season was UberBJ’s best one yet with 20 sacks. Austin is lucky enough to replace one stud linebacker with another.
11. Yellowknife Wraiths - Gil Fischer (Previously Wing Gundam)
Original Pick: Cheecago Boucher
TPE Rank: 15
New Pick Difference: -8
baz Notes: Yellowknife end up addressing the DL with Mo Gago getting close to regression they add Gil Fischer who is a great addition to any locker room as a user. We felt even though that Fischer is not close to the top in TPE anymore, the value this user brings outweighs that.
swoosh Notes: Gil Fischer (Wing Gundam) is our first player to slide in the re-draft, going eight spots lower at 11th overall versus 3rd overall in the real draft. As mentioned earlier, ctots is a great user who just doesn’t have the same level of activity as some of his peers. That doesn’t mean ctots isn’t worth a first round selection and with Cheecago Boucher going a pick earlier, is someone I’m sure Yellowknife would be happy with. Gundam would fit right in alongside Dan Dandrews and Mo Gago, giving the Wraiths three strong users on the defensive line and allowing them to take someone other than Emerson Bigguns in S45.
12. New Orleans Second Line - Kelijah Verwae
Original Pick: Josh Gibson
TPE Rank: 12
New Pick Difference: +15
baz Notes: NOLA had already drafted Kelijah later in the second but he has been so good for the Second Line that they draft him in the first. He is a wonderful user at OL which is always a position of need and he has been an absolute steal. NOLA locks down their future tackle once again.
swoosh Notes: This is about the point where the draft really starts to get interesting. Josh Gibson is unfortunately not available for the Second Line so instead they turn to another familiar face in Kelijah Verwae. Moosecop, who originally went in the second round to New Orleans, is the third highest draft riser of this re-draft at +15. Verwae helps to anchor the Second Line offensive line (that’s a fun one) who looked poised to make an Ultimus run this season. Readers are probably already familiar with Verwae, who is one of the top fantasy options.
13. New Orleans Second Line - La'Fluke Paris-Johnson
Original Pick: Bubba Hog
TPE Rank: 27
New Pick Difference: +20
baz Notes: NOLA go with a user who has impressed as of recent and is still active in Hemhem otherwise known as La'Fluke Paris-Johnson. While he may not be the highest TPE he adds to a NOLA receiving core that could always use a TE and would be a vital part of the team i think.
swoosh Notes: Speaking of draft risers, enter La'Fluke Paris-Johnson who becomes our biggest riser at +20. Originally a third round pick by Colorado, hemhem is coming off a 90+ receptions for 900+ yards season which made fantasy owners happy. Paris-Johnson is 27th in terms of TPE, but the appeal here is current activity. As we get near the end of the first round, activity starts to become a premium. The hope here is hemhem continues to earn, making this pick look a little better by each passing day.
14. Arizona Outlaws - Iman Outlaw
Original Pick: Iman Outlaw
TPE Rank: 23
New Pick Difference: Even
baz Notes: HeIsAnOutlaw.
swoosh Notes: Iman Outlaw. No changes here, the name says it all. Outlaw hasn’t quite broken out yet, but has provided solid depth for Arizona. He is coming off his best season to date, totaling 77 tackles and four sacks. He may not factor in as a top-two outside linebacker but every Ultimus-worthy team needs players like Outlaw. I’m sure Arizona is more than happy with having allbetsonjames back onboard.
Round 2
15. Baltimore Hawks - Swamp Maiden (Previously Dylan Duma)
Original Pick: Anakin Skywalker
TPE Rank: 19
New Pick Difference: -8
baz Notes: Baltimore goes with Swamp Maiden here and after picking RB originally they stick with RB and draft Swamp Maiden. A great user who unfortunately went IA but nonetheless they were still high on a lot of teams boards but BAL takes the chance in this redraft!
swoosh Notes: This wasn’t a particularly deep draft and in the second round we start to see a fall off. As mentioned earlier, Honey is a good user who went IA. Even with that being the case, Swamp Maiden could be a solid RB2 at 800 TPE. Baltimore would definitely be bummed Skywalker isn’t available though.
16. Chicago Butchers - Sem’ga Nah’sim
Original Pick: Sem’ga Nah’sim
TPE Rank: 8
New Pick Difference: Even
baz/swoosh Notes: GM pick
17. Chicago Butchers - Norman Smiley
Original Pick: Norman Smiley
TPE Rank: 20
New Pick Difference: Even
baz Notes: Chicago was in need of some help on the defense so they get of a steal of a pick here with Norman Smiley who has not been quite max earning but is still making a drastic impact on the Butchers team nonetheless and will continue to so much that we agreed to have him at the same spot.
swoosh Notes: Chicago nailed this pick by selecting the player with the 20th most TPE at 20th overall. SmittyHextall has been a solid earner for the Butchers and an even better performer on the field. Through four seasons, Smiley has racked up over 400 tackles and 44 sacks. The Butchers have to be Smiley about the pick, so there’s no reason to change it here.
18. San Jose SaberCats - Mega Tron
Original Pick: Tha Thu Craicte
TPE Rank: 16
New Pick Difference: +14
baz Notes: SJS take their boy McGriddy, I felt this pick was McGriddys destiny while he may be married and moving on from all of us soon, hes a steady earner who continues to help bolster the SaberCats defense.
swoosh Notes: San Jose originally took McGriddy in the third round, but in this re-draft it’s doubtful he would make it out of the second round so they grab him here. Mega Tron’s stats don’t jump out at you, but with 900 TPE this is good value here. Plus as arguably the most interesting man in the ISFL with a life that even Calvin Johnson would envy, this pick is a no brainer.
19. Chicago Butchers - Sam Mercury
Original Pick: Oskar Clark
TPE Rank: 18
New Pick Difference: +10
baz Notes: Sam Mercury has fallen off in earning but is still doing wonders for his team. He should not have fallen as far as he did in the original draft and the Butchers take advantage of that as they needed WR help bad outside of their GM pick and Mercury would be a perfect No2 WR for that CHI offense.
swoosh Notes: Goblin Jr. doesn’t appear to be in the league anymore, so the Butchers are forced to make a new selection. An IA Sam Mercury is still decent value at this stage with 800 TPE. Mercury would fill in and be an upgrade over Jay Money as the team’s third receiver.
20. Baltimore Hawks - Tunka Danstrol
Original Pick: Tunka Danstrol
TPE Rank: 26
New Pick Difference: Even
baz Notes: This user is no longer active but middle of the earning OL are valuable in this economy and Baltimore takes this pick and walks away happy as they keep the guy they originally picked and bolster their OL saving them some money in the long run.
swoosh Notes: TDenstroyer is a great user who unfortunately has went IA. At around 550 TPE however, Tunkha Danstrol has still been an asset for the Hawks and one could argue he could go even earlier. Through his first four seasons, Danstrol has ate over 250 pancakes and allowed 12 sacks.
21. Baltimore Hawks - Gaius Gleel
Original Pick: Bertie Mannering-Phipps
TPE Rank: 25
New Pick Difference: -16
baz Notes: Baltimore add a very highly sought after user in Crodyman who unfortunately went IA but still earned an adequate amount of TPE to be a viable part of the Baltimore defense. Unfortunately a downgrade from BMP but they add to their defense where they could always use LB.
swoosh Notes: Baltimore originally got really great value here with the selection of BMP, although it didn’t work out in the end for the Hawks with him leaving via free agency after his rookie contract. With BMP off the board, the Hawks turn to another good user who has gone IA. Linebacker isn’t a need for Baltimore now, but maybe with Crodyman in the fold the Hawks make different moves in the seasons to follow S43.
22. Austin Copperheads - Sack Sparrow
Original Pick: Robert Green
TPE Rank: 24
New Pick Difference: -18
baz Notes: Austin is up now and take DT, Austin does get DT if I remember correctly in the next draft and getting Water here allows them to somewhat delay that as while he isn't active anymore he fills that spot for now. But hey who knows maybe Sack Sparrow wouldve liked Austin.
swoosh Notes: Austin got one of the steals of the draft with Robert Green, but he was one of the biggest risers in the re-draft. With that being the case, they turn to the biggest faller and nab Sack Sparrow. Water, you guessed it, has gone IA although at 600 TPE is someone you can plug in along the defensive line and be happy with it.
23. New Orleans Second Line - Allister Adebam
Original Pick: Allister Adebam
TPE Rank: 5
New Pick Difference: Even
baz/swoosh Notes: GM pick
24. Colorado Yeti - Bell Pepper
Original Pick: Bell Pepper
TPE Rank: 17
New Pick Difference: Even
baz/swoosh Notes: GM pick
25. Yellowknife Wraiths - Maximus Boudreaux
Original Pick: Maximus Boudreaux
TPE Rank: 3
New Pick Difference: Even
baz/swoosh Notes: GM pick
26. Colorado Yeti - Tha Thu Craicte
Original Pick: Giles Marrett
TPE Rank: 29
New Pick Difference: -8
baz Notes: Colorado have been in need of Safety for quite some time atp and they decide to nab everyones favorite community engagement head, Deadly. Deadly deserves to go much higher than this as he is still active so lots of merit but he isn't really earning but he is still very impactful on the field and most likely a great presence for any LR.
swoosh Notes: It looks like since we made the re-draft selections, Tha Thu Craicte switched from safety to offensive line. At 550 TPE, it’s possible DeadlyPlayer would go even earlier. Offensive line is a position almost any team could use at the end of the second draft, Tha Thu Craicte presents good value.
27. New Orleans Second Line - Bubba Hog
Original Pick: Kelijah Verwae
TPE Rank: 22
New Pick Difference: -15
baz Notes: With the last actual pick, the Second Line take Hog again but at a much lower pick. The Second Line still needed defense atp and with Hog on the board and some uncertainity at the time around other players left on the board they get this LB who had earned quite a bit for them and are happy to walk away with him here at this pick.
swoosh Notes: New Orleans got a steal in Kelijah Verwae, but with him off the board they link up with another familiar face in Bubba Hog. Before IHateBobNutting went IA, he earned over 700 TPE. On the field, Hog has been a solid piece to the New Orleans defense although he had a little more success early in his career.
28. Arizona Outlaws - Paul Dosza
Original Pick: Paul Dosza
TPE Rank: 14
New Pick Difference: Even
baz/swoosh Notes: GM pick
A few notes before getting started:
- We see lots of IA's in this draft. It doesn't mean the original pick was bad at the time. It just didn't work out. This is simply for entertainment.
- Scouting convos and locker room fits play a big role in the actual draft. Unless there was an obvious connection, this was not considered much here.
