For those paying attention to exciting punting developments in the league, you may have noticed that Booter McGavin is now approximately 5,700 yards away from the all time record in punt yards. While this may not seem that close, it means that Booter McGavin would need to average 239 punt yards a game over the next 24 games which is of course the rest of this season and next. Basically Booter needs to stay on 3900 yard pace for the next season and a half. This certainly seems possible given the fact Booter McGavin has multiple seasons over 4000 yards in his career. However, one large problem remains... Booter has not committed to playing in the ISFL beyond the end of the season. We decided it was time to ask Booter about his plans to chase ISFL history.
"Oh I 100% want to set the all time punt yard record" a confident McGavin stated. "Simply put I am the best ever at punting the ball because Booter Booms Balls! So giving me the chance to kick King off the tour, I mean off the top of the leaderboard is not something I am going to pass up".
Of course Booter is right as he is the currently the best all-time in punt yard average, but he is aging and kick power can go down over time. We decided to ask him if he was confident in keeping up his average as he ages heading into next season.
"What kind of question is that? Do you see the size of these thighs? (Booter flings his legs up on the table and rolls up his shorts). "These babies aren't going anywhere because I have the Booter McGavin Boomer workout that ensures my legs are in peak shape for booming performance. This power is going nowhere baby".
While Booter may seem confident in his ability to beat father time, there is also the worry that he just won't get enough opportunities to break the record given that the San Jose Sabercats are now one of the better offenses in the league. And with a better offense comes less opportunities for Booter to punt the ball.
"Yeah it's a number game for me because if I get the chance I will Boom on past that record. We got one of the best offenses in the league so it may limit the number of punts I get but I always make the most of them. I could consider joining another team with a bad offense next year but that won't change anything because of the Booter effect. In case you don't that is that I am such a confidence booster in the locker room, any team that picks me up is going to be a top team on offense and defense. So I don't think I will be looking for another team unless San Jose decides they don't want me, and no one is that dumb".
We ended our conversation with Booter McGavin by asking how possibly reaching this record could impact his legacy.
"It won't impact it at all. I already should be getting that gold jacket and everyone knows I am the best at punting that ball far in all of ISFL history. So no pressure on my end because I already know that I am the top dog. Booter is Booming his way into the ISFL Hall of Fame"
Well there you have it, Booter is coming back for another year and is his usual confident self. San Jose fans will be able to watch a chase for history as well as one of the best teams in the ISFL this season and hopefully next.
