KIPP SUMMERS LEGACY
Part 3: Road to The Top
September 25th, 2064
Season Week 1: Norfolk @ Bondi Beach
Kipp had been looking forward to this game since the first preseason game. Finally he would get his chance to play in the real season and Norfolk would get their chance to show that preseason wasn’t just a fluke. After going undefeated in preseason there was a pressure to show that Norfolk could perform, and with some of their victories against other power house teams being by such wide margins; there were a lot of eyes on them. Coming into the game Kipp knew his goal. Shutdown Golden Ericksen. He was quite literally the golden boy of their offense and if left unchecked could lead to an early loss on the season record.
The first quarter started with a decent drive by Norfolk that sputtered out leading to a solid punt by Wild. As Bondi gained possession of the ball and their offense took the field Kipp knew they were looking to make a statement. The following drive lasted 7 minutes and ended with Sevrin punching in a touchdown to set the scoreboard to 0-7.
Norfolk was disappointed in the outcome of the drive to say the least, but as Jack Cannon took the field he called over to Kipp and the rest of the defense “Watch this!”
Ganjasmoke returned the kickoff for 28 yards, Blaze rushed 11 yards for a first down, Clafin punched forward 2 more yards, and then Cannon Launched the ball to Sonic getting a 56 yard Touchdown with three minutes left in the quarter. With a smile Cannon came back to the bench and didn’t even sit down. “Get it back to us boys!” he said waiting on the sideline.
The game was on and Norfolk was riled up. Norfolk’s defense ran out to the field and immediately Dethwilson threw an interception to Boernsteen. Jack Cannon ran onto the field and howled like a wolf as the defense ran past him all calling out the same howl. As Kipp got to the sidelines the defense was still celebrating with clattering helmets and howls chasing after the offense taking the field.
After three short passes Norfolk had scored yet another touchdown in the first quarter. The sideline was electric, Kipp howled along with the rest of the sideline as they rushed the field to shut down the Bondi Beach offense. The following three quarters contained a field goal for Bondi Beach as well as a FG for Norfolk in the second quarter, a safety in the third quarter for Norfolk, and a field goal as well as a touchdown for Norfolk.
As the game wrapped up and the team began celebrating Kipp watched on with a smile on his face, they had proven they were here to play. Kipp stood to the side as he watched everyone else huddle up shouting and jumping. He took in the moment before joining; adding his noise and movement to the celebration.
Note: Kipp would get 1 tackle and 1 pass defense. The game ended 28-10 in favor of Norfolk.

Season Week 2: London @ Norfolk
Dalinar Summers Vs. Kipp Summers for the first time in the normal season. Kipp was looking to make a statement against his brother's team with another win against them following the preseason game. Norfolk was feeling good coming off of their win against Bondi Beach, and with London coming off of a victory against Kansas City this was a great opportunity to assert themselves as a dominant team in the league. With the game starting soon, Kipp was setting his mind on tackling his brother Dalinar.
London started the first quarter with the ball and after kneeling for a touchback Morgan passed to Eackman. Kipp was ready for that pass and tackled Eackman right after he caught the ball. Eackman lost control of the ball and Kipp tried to push away from Hugh to gain control of the ball. Unfortunately before he could Eackman had it back in his hands and was holding tight. Kipp stood up to get back to the line and hit his helmet with both his hands “Shit!” he called out in disappointment.
A few more plays and London had secured a first down and was looking to get another. At third and three, London decided to run the ball with Dalinar Summers. Kipp was marking Eackman, but saw Dalinar break through the line with the ball and immediately changed directions. His brother had already gotten the first down and was threatening to break away for a massive touchdown for London. Kipp started sprinting over, and as he got within six feet of Dalinar he jumped off the ground. flying through the air like a cannonball towards Dalinar's chest Kipp braced for impact. He knew his brother was strong and wasn’t sure he could take him down but he had to believe. Kipp hit Dalinar and bounced off but not before knocking Dalinar off balance sending him tumbling to the side.
Kipp held his brother to 22 yards and was hoping for a solid stop afterwards but with an unfortunate penalty London was at first and ten with only 12 yards to go. One quick pass later and London was on the board. The rest of the game unfortunately played out in London's favor. A small amount of hope arrived in the second quarter with both teams scoring a touchdown but London missing their extra point, but that was short lived. The third quarter held another touchdown for London and a safety as well as a field goal for Norfolk. The fourth quarter was scoreless leaving Norfolk with an early loss for their season.
Note: Kipp would get 3 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 1 pass defense. The game ended 20-12 in favor of London.
October 9th, 2064
Season Week 3: Dallas @ Norfolk
Dallas was a game that Kipp had heard a lot from his team about. A big division rival game and a really good team to beat early to set the pace of the season. The team was hoping to bounce back from the loss against London and Kipp was right there with them.
The game was competitive but was looking good for Norfolk through almost the entire game. The fourth quarter however was a different story. Dallas was able to open up the fourth with a touchdown completed with a two point conversion. Bringing the game to 18-21 Norfolk. For the next 14 minutes the two teams had a lot of back and forth, but no scoring, until with 58 seconds left in the game. Dallas scored a field goal to tie the game.
With 53 seconds left in the game Norfolk bolted down the field with a 27 yard kickoff return by Ganjasmoke, a penalty by Dallas, and a miracle pass by Jack Cannon to Kevin Finnerty for a touchdown. At this point the team was ecstatic and Kipp was ready to take the field to shut down the last 8 seconds of Dallas’ game.
Theriault caught the kickoff, and proceeded to run down the right side of the field shrugging tacklers and skirting around blockers. He made it to the end zone after a 103 yard return, and the extra point was good. A game that should have been a sealed deal was now blown wide open and there were 10 more minutes to be played.
Both unfortunately and luckily for Kipp, neither team scored in overtime resulting in season 49’s only tie game in the DSFL. While it sucked not having a win on the record, Kipp was very thankful that it wasn’t a loss especially with how that fourth quarter ended. Kipp was quick to calm down about the end of this game, but he did not forget. He needed to bounce back after letting his team down with his performance against Dallas.
Note: Kipp would get 2 tackles this game. The game ended 28-28 after a scoreless overtime.
October 16th, 2064
Season Week 4: Norfolk @ Portland
This game was not the game that Kipp bounced back in, but it was the game that Norfolk bounced back in. For Kipp this game was simply a good game. Even when Norfolk lost the lead the team never really felt like they lost control. Norfolk was quick to respond and really felt like they were driving the pace of this game.
Once Norfolk hit the fourth quarter they didn’t look back, shutting out Portland’s offense and extending their lead with two field goals. Kipp had promised himself he wouldn’t compare himself to the player he was in college, and for the most part he hadn’t been, but as the season was progressing Kipp felt that drive returning to him. Preseason was one thing, but now that Kipp was playing in the regular season he wasn’t content with his lackluster performances anymore. From now on Kipp was going to push himself to be better. He wanted to make sure that Norfolk could rely on him and felt like he was worth their time. But all that was left to do was produce results.
Note: Kipp would get 3 tackles this game. The game ended 30-17 in favor of Norfolk.
October 23rd, 2064
Season Week 5: Minnesota @ Norfolk
Kipp was feeling better after training hard in the off week. Going into the game against Minnesota Norfolk was fired up, determined to start a win streak. The teams took the field and Minnesota started the game off with a 30 yard return. And for the next 9 minutes drove down the field with small gain plays. Eventually Minnesota ended up on 3rd and goal at Norfolk’s 3 yard line. The game wasn’t looking great for Norfolk, their defense just wasn’t able to stop the small game and Minnesota just kept moving forward and running down the clock. If the Grey Ducks could keep this pace the whole game it could look bad for the Seawolves.
Unfortunately for Minnesota Boernsteen intercepted a pass from Hirsch to Civic for 15 yards and a first down. With Norfolk finally in possession and on their own 15 yard line they needed to make something happen. After a short run by Claflin Jr., Cannon was able to find a wide open Ganjasmoke for an 89 yard touchdown. The team exploded into howls and celebration, as they knew they had just changed the tempo of the game. A quick 3 and out by Minnesota was quickly followed up by a drive that ended with a 44 yard rush by Claflin. In just a quick 4 minutes Norfolk had blown the game open and forced Minnesota into a desperate spot.
The game was not over though. Minnesota had another 3 and out, but right afterwards Cannon threw an interception to give Minnesota possession going into the 2nd quarter. Minnesota did a great job speeding up their pace and were able to score a touchdown to keep the game competitive. Norfolk proceeded to make a 10 minute drive ending in a field goal, followed up by a quick 3 and out from Minnesota to give Norfolk another quick field goal to end the first half.
With a score of 20-7, Norfolk had a commanding lead moving into the second half, and all they needed was to keep that momentum into the last half. Norfolk was able to open up the half with a field goal followed up with a quick 3 and out by Minnesota. Norfolk then raced down the field to get another touchdown and cement a massive lead against Minnesota. One field goal from Minnesota and yet another touchdown from Norfolk end the third quarter with Minnesota in possession to start the fourth.
The fourth quarter was a story of Norfolk’s offense crumbling and Its defense making life hard for Minnesota. Norfolk wasn’t able to make anything happen while they had the ball and couldn’t keep possession of it either. Minnesota also struggled with the ball. They were able to score two touchdowns in the quarter, but Norfolk’s defense forced them to spend 11 minutes doing so. The game ended with the simple problem that Minnesota just simply didn’t have enough time to come back from the deficit of the first three quarters.
Note: Kipp would get 3 tackles this game. The game would end 36-24 in favor of Norfolk
October 30th, 2064
Season Week 6: Norfolk @ Tijuana
Tijuana, a massive game for Norfolk and Kipp, they were the Ultimini winners of last season and the team with Kal Summers Jr. Kipp had struggled to make plays happen in the past few games and knew he needed to show up for this game in order to give his team a chance of winning; because if he knew anything it was that his brother was not going to go down easy.
The game starts, Kipp is keeping an eye on Kal. He knows that Kal can play the short game, but can play long at any moment and he needs to be ready to catch Kal if he ever tries to break away. Tijuana starts with possession, but Norfolk locks them down to a quick 3 and out. Before Kipp can even get his hands on a water bottle Jack Cannon finds Finnerty for a massive one play touchdown. Tijuana and Norfolk pass possession back and forth a few times before Norfolk is able to start a solid drive. Norfolk marched down the field making steady progress with a mix of rushes and short passes, but just as Norfolk was looking for another first down Shackleferd trampled through the offensive line and sacked Jack Cannon for 6 yards. Cannon bounced back with a 7 yard pass to Sonic, but wasn’t able to get the first down. A no-good field goal kick by Wild left Norfolk in an unfortunate spot.
Tijuana saw their opportunity and started to drive the ball hard. O’Fare and Kipp were able to shut down two otherwise massive rushes and hold Tijuana to one field goal, but Norfolk was losing momentum just as fast as Tijuana was gaining it. Kipp knew he had to do something, his team was in dire straits and if nothing was done this game could be disastrous for morale for the rest of the season.
Norfolk started the second quarter with a rush on 3rd and 1 for negative yards forcing a punt. Kipp was ready. Tijuana could break Norfolk with one big play and take control for the rest of the game. Kipp couldn’t let that happen. Famer rushed for a yard after being forced to scramble by a collapsing Norfolk defense.
“He has to pass,” Kipp thought, “but to who? Not Kal he’s too obvious, Not Wheezer he plays too short.” Then it dawned on him “Ohi Kau!” Kipp slid over feinting a double coverage on Kal. “Just like the old days.” Kipp said to Kal before the snap. Kal knew exactly what was about to happen but before he could warn Famer the snap had happened and Kipp had hidden away behind the massive Sunfish Bot.
Ohi Kau shot through a gap that Kipp intentionally left wide open, and as Kipp watched Famer lock eyes on Ohi Kau and wind back he prepared himself for a jump. Right as Famer’s arm started moving forward Kipp leaped up onto Sunfish bot’s back and jumped once more further into the air. Getting a solid 16 feet of clearance the tiny frame of Kipp resembled the ball just thrown but going the opposite way. Kipp collided mid air with the ball and grabbed it as he prepared himself for what was next. One hell of a run.
Kipp hit the ground running, his left hand holding the ball against the side of his helmet as he sprinted through the legs of the offensive line. As Kipp got to the other side; there was no one around him. He was free. He could see Kal running to catch him, but he was too far. Kipp ran as fast as his legs could carry him and threw himself over the finish line with a howl. As he threw the ball to the ground the howls of his teammates caught up to him. “KIPP SIX” could be heard coming from every person in Norfolk followed by a cacophony of howls. Kipp would have cried if there weren't almost three more full quarters of game to play, but he knew tears could wait.
Kipp desperately hoped that he had given his team the momentum they needed to take over the game. unfortunately it didn’t play out exactly as he had imagined. Tij was able to respond to the proverbial “Kipp Six” with a touchdown of their own. And another rough drive from Norfolk seemed to kill the excitement that Kipp had generated. The game wasn’t over, Norfolk still had the lead, but It was too close to be happy about.
The first half ended before either team could score again. Unfortunately for Kipp the second half didn’t bring about any change. Norfolk was held to a 3 and out by another sack on Cannon, and Tijuana put up another touchdown to officially take the lead from Norfolk. For the rest of the quarter Norfolk did a good job of keeping Tijuana tied down and bought enough time for Wild to kick a field goal that was good this time.
The third quarter ended 17-17 with Tijuana in possession. The fourth quarter was quiet until Norfolk was able to put up a field goal to take back the lead with 6:53 left on the clock. Norfolk needed a huge stop to take back possession and hopefully play out the rest of the game with the ball in their hands. Kal had other ideas. 1:54 left on the clock at 3rd and 7. All Kipp wanted was to see that ball drop before 7 yards. Famer threw an 11 yard pass to Kal and he caught it. And one more 29 yard pass to Kal secured them the game winning touchdown. It hurt. It hurt a lot for Kipp, but he was happy for his brother. Kipp was hoping it would be his Touchdown that led his team to victory, but it ended up being his brother’s and he knew he was fine with that. After all, he had proven to himself that he still had it. He wasn’t completely useless after all and that set a fire that wasn’t going to be put out by one rough loss.
Note: Kipp would get 1 tackle, 1 pass defense, 1 interception, and 1 defensive touchdown. The game would end 20-24 in favor of Tijuana.
November 6th, 2064
Season Week 7: Norfolk @ Kansas City
An important game for both Kansas and Norfolk. Kansas needed the win to pull themselves out of being stuck in last place at halfway through the season. Norfolk needed the win to keep themselves ahead of the Dallas Birddogs who were right behind them.
Unfortunately for Kansas City, Norfolk’s defense was looking to blow off some steam after the loss against Tijuana, and they were unable to score outside of the third quarter while Norfolk kept scoring to increase the gap to a two score game by the end of the fourth quarter.
Note: Kipp would get 5 tackles this game. The game would end 26-12 in favor of Norfolk
November 13th, 2064
Season Week 8: Kansas City @ Norfolk
Coming off of their last win against Kansas City, Norfolk felt pretty confident in their ability to have a repeat outcome. Unfortunately this confidence would come to be Norfolk’s undoing.
The game was almost uneventful. It felt like it was moving at a snail's pace. Kansas opened up the game with a touchdown and Norfolk proceeded to shut out Kansas for the rest of the game while scoring 5 field goals until one minute was left in the fourth quarter. Kansas then scored for the second time that game, and with a successful two point conversion tied the game up, sending Norfolk into their second overtime of season 49.
Kansas City wasted no time and after two passes had scored a touchdown to close the game out.
Note: Kipp would get 2 tackles this game. The game would end 21-15 in favor of Kansas City
November 20th, 2064
Season Week 9: Tijuana @ Norfolk
Norfolk was playing Tijuana again, and the team was fired up. This was their chance to prove that last time was a fluke. It was Kipp’s chance to get one on his brother. So far Kipp was 0-2 against his brothers and he wanted that to change.
The game started as well as Kipp could have hoped With Norfolk’s opening drive ending with a touchdown, followed by a quick 3 and out by Tijuana that was immediately followed up by a 71 yard touchdown from Cannon to Finnerty. Only halfway through the first quarter and Norfolk was up 14, things were looking great. Tijuana scored a field goal before the end of the first quarter, and the second quarter ended with both teams only trading a field goal.
Being 17-6 going into the second half had Norfolk feeling pretty good, but they knew they weren't out of the woods yet. Two more field goals for Norfolk had the team starting to worry; they were pulling farther ahead but they hadn’t closed the door, 23-6 was still manageable for Tijuana and they all knew it.
Then Norfolk's worst nightmares became their reality. Tijuana scored a touchdown, 23-13. Norfolk failed their next drive and Tijuana scored another touchdown off of the punt return, 23-20. The lead was gone. In three minutes their 17 point lead had shrunk to 3.
They could still do it though. All they had to do was hold Tijuana to a field goal and put up another score. They didn’t. Tijuana scored a touchdown on their first drive of the fourth quarter, and Norfolk couldn’t respond with anything. Kipp was 0-3 against his brothers.
Note: Kipp would get 8 tackles and 1 fumble recovery. The game would end 27-23 in favor of Tijuana.
November 27th, 2064
Season Week 10: Norfolk @ Minnesota
At this point in the season you couldn’t say that Norfolk was doing poorly, But you could say that they were starting to slip. Norfolk could feel their grasp on the season loosening, and this was the game that could spell disaster for the rest of the season. A loss here was out of the question. Norfolk needed to win here and they were ready to put it all on the field.
At first both teams were holding each other to short drives, but Norfolk was able to crack the game open with a touchdown. The flood gates were open and Norfolk started taking over. The first quarter was a shutout 17-0 for Norfolk. For the rest of the game Minnesota just couldn’t come back from it. Minnesota scored a touchdown in the second quarter, but Norfolk scored one right back. Minnesota scored a field goal in the third quarter, but Norfolk scored a touchdown in response.
For the first time in the fourth quarter, Minnesota outscored Norfolk in the quarter with a touchdown to a field goal. But it was too little too late. Norfolk had won and they felt the momentum building. This was the start of a great end to the season.
Note: Kipp would get 3 tackles. The game would end 33-17 in favor of Norfolk.
December 4th, 2064
Season week 11: Portland @ Norfolk
Norfolk was feeling good and was looking to the end of the season with hopeful eyes. The first quarter kept that good feeling going. A touchdown for Norfolk to end their first possession was a great tone setter for the game. Portland spent the next 6 minutes on a drive that ended in a field goal, after they were unable to get to the endzone.
Unfortunately Portland got an interception to have possession going into the second quarter, but Norfolk’s defense quickly shut them down giving Jack Cannon an opportunity to get yet another touchdown with the offense. Portland was looking to respond, But Kipp had other ideas.
Portland was at 3rd and 2 with a solid opportunity to get a drive going. Kipp felt a fake coming. They had run for 8 yards on first down and thrown on second down but it was incomplete. It made sense for them to run and get the first down, but Kipp felt a pass coming. At the snap Kipp kept his eye on Rockmann while trailing Wickerd and as Rockman faked a hand off Kipp saw the ball still in his hands. Wickerd leveled out his route and the ball was thrown to him, but Kipp shot up into the air and snagged the ball giving it a bear hug. Kipp held on for dear life as he fell back to the ground, all he wanted was to not drop the ball. As he fell he landed on his back and felt the wind leave his body, but he held on tight and the ball was Norfolk’s.
Unfortunately Norfolk couldn’t make a touchdown happen off of it, but they still made a field goal. Portland was able to mount a solid comeback with a field goal to end the first half, a field goal in the third quarter, and a touchdown with a successful 2 point conversion to tie the game up late in the fourth. Norfolk was not going to overtime again though. Wild kicked a field goal and set the game at 17-20, and Norfolk’s defense shut down the last drive out of Portland.
Note: Kipp would get 2 tackles, 1 pass defense, and 1 interception this game. The game would end 20-17 in favor of Norfolk.
December 11th, 2064
Season week 12: Norfolk @ Dallas
Dallas and Norfolk were tied going into this week, and with both teams wanting to come out on top of that tie especially after their first match of the season was a tie as well.
This game was a one sided bloodbath that the score of 31-24 does not do justice. Norfolk scored a field goal to start the game followed up by a few turnovers between the teams. With 2 minutes left in the first quarter Norfolk sacked Vega jr. for a safety. Norfolk unfortunately gave possession back to Dallas before the quarter ended, but Kipp intercepted Vega on the last play of the quarter to give Norfolk possession for the second quarter.
Norfolk unfortunately gets held to a field goal at the Dallas 4 yard line, and Dallas responds with a touchdown; to which Norfolk responds with a touchdown; to which Dallas responds with a field goal. Leaving the second quarter a wash.
The third quarter is where Dallas really fell apart. 3 sacks on Vega, one of which was another safety, and 1 interception from Vega giving Norfolk back to back touchdowns was just too much for Dallas to handle.
Dallas did try their best by giving a 14-0 fourth quarter back to Norfolk, but it just wasn’t enough. Norfolk had pulled too far ahead and taken too many possessions away from Dallas. Howls filled the Birddogs’ stadium that night.
Note: Kipp would get 5 tackles, 2 pass defenses, and 1 interception that game. The game would end 31-24 in favor of Norfolk.
December 18th, 2064
Season week 13: Norfolk @ London
The final match between Summers brothers of the regular season. Kipp was 0-3 against his brothers so far and desperately wanted to take at least one win off of his brothers. But London was one of the toughest teams in the league and Norfolk had to take them down.
The game started off rough. On Norfolk’s first possession Cannon got sacked twice. When London got the ball Dalinar almost broke through the defense and stomped his way to a touchdown, but Kipp held him to 17 yards resulting in a field goal by London. The rest of the quarter was a struggle to keep London down, but Norfolk did it. Unfortunately London had possession going into the second quarter and opened it up with a big touchdown for Morgan and Cool.
Norfolk was down 10-0 but they knew it wasn't over. After a series of Fumbles and interceptions that led to seemingly just a missed field goal by Wild, Norfolk managed a touchdown to close out the first half trailing 10-7.
The third quarter ended with a touchdown for both teams, and London in possession for the fourth quarter. Norfolk had weathered the storm, and London started to crumble. The fourth quarter was messy with a plethora of sacks, interceptions, and penalties, but Norfolk came out on top with 17 points to London’s 7. Kipp was 1-3 against his brothers.
Note: Kipp would get 7 tackles this game. The game would end 31-24 in favor of Norfolk.
December 25th, 2064
Season week 14: Bondi Beach @ Norfolk
Out of respect for the Bondi Beach Buccaneers this section has been removed. Merry Christmas you pirates.
Note: Kipp would get 5 tackles and 2 pass defenses this game. The game would end 51-10 in favor of Norfolk.

DSFL South Divisional Championship: Dallas @ Norfolk
This game was close. Too close for anyone in Norfolk to feel comfortable during the game. A tight first quarter with only a field goal by Norfolk to make a score; followed up by a second quarter that had a field goal for both teams, made a first half that was agonizing to watch. And even more agonizing to play. Kipp could feel the nerves but knew Norfolk needed to make something happen.
Norfolk did make something happen with two touchdowns, however one of the extra points was blocked. Norfolk was in a good position but that extra point could cost them the game. Dallas closed out the third quarter with a field goal which should have given Norfolk possession to start the fourth, but an interception by Saruta gave it right back.
Norfolk was leading going into the fourth quarter, but Dallas was making a desperate comeback. First one field goal filled by another before Norfolk could get one of their own. Luckily Norfolk was able to run the clock and Dallas only had time for one touchdown before the game was over. Norfolk was going to the Ultimini!
Note: Kipp had 5 tackles and 1 sack this game. The game ended 22-19 in favor of Norfolk.
January 7th, 2065
The Ultimini: Portland Vs. Norfolk
Out of respect for the Norfolk Seawolves this section has been removed. Congrats on the win Portland.
Note: Kipp would get 3 tackles this game. The game would end 42-20 in favor of Portland.
This concludes Volume 1 of Kipp Summers Legacy! Please stay tuned for more coming in the future!
October 2nd, 2064
