Defensive Line Standouts – Week 11
We’re back! Welcome to week 11 of our Season 4 Defensive Line Standouts. We’re slowly clawing our way back out of this hole and finally into seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Week 11 saw a couple great performances from each position, including one performance that is one of the tops of the season! Expect to see the following weeks coming out relatively quickly as he has volunteered to help me write a couple of the weeks. Enough chit chat… Let’s begin!
Defensive End Top Performers
E. Charlton ($$) 5 TCK, 4 TFL, 1 SCK
This only marks Charlton’s second appearance of the season, but holy buckets, it was a dozy. His 5 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 1 sack were good enough for him to claim the top performance of the week by any defensive lineman. I would be remiss if I failed to mention that his 4 tackles for loss this past week tie the current record for tackles for loss since the changes made to the offensive line. Charlton will hope to carry his massive performance with him across the border to Yellowknife, where he’ll face a tough Wraiths squad.
F. Wozy ($ x6) 5 TCK, 1 TFL, 2 SCK
Making his sixth appearance on our list, Wozy has made a living off of ruining running backs yards per carry average this season. This week though, he finished with 5 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 sacks. His 2 sacks this week bring his season total up to exactly…. 2. While that number is a little disappointing, he has clearly excelled in all other areas, as referenced by his frequent appearances here. Still flying high off of their win over Baltimore, The Yeti will host the Liberty this week in hope of improving their record to 2-1 over the last 3 games.
J. Tuck ($ x7) 4 TCK, 2 TFL, 1 SCK
Finishing the week with 4 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 1 sack, Tuck earned his seventh spot on our list for the season. Despite what I’m sure he considers a disappointing season; Tuck’s 7 appearances are tied for the most among defensive ends. Arizona will be looking to avenge their early season loss to the Baltimore Hawks next week, in what is sure to be a great game.
Other Great Performers
A. Sandoval ($$$) 5 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
D. Davidson ($$$) 3 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
K. Hendrix ($ x7) 2 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
Sandoval has gotten hot as of late and with his 5 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 sack, claims his third spot on our list. Also claiming his third, Drew Davidson came up big this week with 3 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 sack. Despite not having a massive week, Hendrix did enough to beat to beat out more than half of his peers and claim his seventh spot on the list, tying him for second place overall.
Defensive Tackle Top Performers
D. Miller ($ x 8) 6 TCK, 2 SCK
Dan Miller, aka the dopest cleats in the NSFL (do the kids still say dope?), is making his eighth appearance this week, the most of any player in the NSFL. A near certainty at this point, I sometimes wonder what it would be like to write about a different defensive tackle but, no, that would be stupid. His 6 tackles and 2 sacks are enough to earn him the top spot among defensive tackles, and is the third best performance overall this week. Week 12 will be a tough test for the SaberCats as they head way up north to Yellowknife to face off against a very good Wraiths squad.
G. Clegane ($ x6) 4 TCK, 1 TFL, 2 SCK
Following an impressive 4 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 sack performance, this week marks the sixth time Clegane has appeared on our list this week, the most of any player to convert to defensive line this season. Clearly, this was great decision by the Orange County front office. Tackles for loss have been tough to come by this season for defensive tackles, as Clegane leads all DTs with only 5 on the season. The Otters will be headed to Vegas next week to face a struggling, but greatly improved, Legion squad in hopes of securing a playoff spot.
B. Bjornsson ($$$$) 4 TCK, 1 SCK
Talk about a season turn-around. After being a non-factor for the Wraiths for the first half of the season, Bjornsson has reverted to his old ways and has now made our list 3 straight weeks. Could this be the official return of the Bearded Wonder? His 4 tackles and 1 sack were enough for him to claim our third spot for defensive tackles this week. The Wraiths will be headed to much nicer weather next week as they make their way to San Jose to face a massively improved SaberCats squad.
Other Great Performers
A. Asipi ($ x7) 2 TCK, 2 TFL
B. Metas ($ x5) 4 TCK, 1 TFL
E. Kamaka ($ x5) 6 TCK
In an interesting turn of events, all 3 of the above players scored exactly 6 points, yet all 3 did it in different ways. Asipi is currently tied for the second most appearances with Tuck and Hendrix. Metas and Kamaka (coming off a clutch move to the defensive line) are both sitting at a very respectable 5 appearances each.
Team Appearances After Week 11*
Arizona: 24 (+2)
Baltimore: 24 (+2)
San Jose: 19 (+2)
Orange County: 17 (+1)
Philadelphia: 13 (+2)
Yellowknife: 12 (+1)
Colorado: 12 (+2)
Las Vegas: 11 (+)
Arizona and Baltimore stay dead-locked at the top of pile with 24 appearances each, while San Jose widens the gap a tad on Orange County, 19-17. Orange County stay at the four spot but loses a little ground to the top three as they each added 2 apiece, while Orange County only had one quality. While the top half saw no movement at all, the bottom half is an entirely different story. Colorado added 2 and moves from eighth to seventh. Philadelphia added 2 and jumps from seventh to fifth. Yellowknife stays put at sixth, while Vegas, the only team no not have a player qualify this week, falls all the way from fifth to eighth. Ouch.
As always, if you have any comments, corrections, or question, I’d love to hear them below.
*Just a reminder, this ranking is not necessarily indicative of how well a team’s defense is operating as a whole, just how many times a player from that team has appeared on our list.
