Defensive Line Standouts - Week 12
Welcome to week 12 of our Season 4 Defensive Line Standouts! While the season may be over, the accolades keep on coming. While many of you are excited for the playoffs, I’m still living in week 12. This week, we see our defensive end favorites all struggled to find the quarterback. Meanwhile, our defensive tackles didn’t miss a beat as they continued to do what they do best.
Defensive End Top Performers
A.. Sandoval ($$$$) 5 TCK, 3 TFL
Yes, you read that right. Our top performer is leading the way with just 5 tackles and 3 tackles for loss. Antonio Sandoval leads the pack this week making just his 4th appearance on the list. The Yeti faced off against the Liberty and while they kept the running tandem of Kroetch and O’Connell in check with just 81 yards and a 3.0 YPC, they just weren’t putting the pressure needed on Clifford Rove as he went off for over 300 yards. Up next, the Yeti host Arizona in what is sure to be another lopsided game.
B. Bot ($x5) 5 TCK, 2 TFL
Making his 5th appearance, Big Bot joins our list at number 2. With a stat line of 5 tackles and 2 tackles for loss, he made his presence known to the Otters front 5. Running back committee Leroy Jenkins and Erlich Burnsman struggled to get much going this game as they combined for just 73 yards. Despite the effort, the Otters were able to secure the win but Las Vegas should be in a good place moving forward with the pieces that have acquired.
J. Tuck ($x8) 4 5 TCK, 2 TFL
A familiar name on this list, Jayce Tuck makes his 8th appearance which ties him for first with most appearances by a defensive end. Recording 5 tackles and 2 tackles for loss, Tuck contributed just enough to hold off the sometimes dangerous Baltimore Hawks and clinch the first playoff seed. Antoine Delacour was able to rack up 91 yards against the Outlaws but with just a 2.7 YPC, it just wasn’t enough to get things done. Next up, Tuck and company head to Colorado in hopes of keeping their 6-game win streak alive.
E. Charlton ($$$) 5 TCK, 2 TFL
And with a 3-way tie for top performers, Enchilada Charlton wraps up our list. He failed to get to the quarterback but he did manage 5 tackles and 2 tackles for loss, he led the sabercats defensive line in most categories which is **SPOILER ALERT** bad news for Dan Miller. While we are all familiar with Enchilada Charlton, he is making just his 3rd appearance on our list.
Other Great Performers
E. Gustavsson ($$$$) 2 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SACK
M. Ramrio ($x5) 5 TCK, 1 TFL
With it being a down week for defensive ends, we reach our 5th best performance before we find our first sack. Eidur Gustavsson claims a place on the list for the 4th time this season. Mark Ramrio rounds out our list with just 5 tackles and a tackle for loss.
Defensive Tackle Top Performers
B. Bjornsson ($x5) 7 TCK, 2 SACKS
Our top defensive tackle this week is none other than Bork Bjornsson. With 7 tackles and 2 of his team’s 8 sacks on poor Chris Orosz, the wraiths defense was solid all around. Leading the charge, Bork and friends held the sabercat ground game to just 34 yards and a meager 2.1 YPC as they cruised to a convincing double digit win. Next up they head to the city of brotherly love where we may get a preview of the NSFC conference match-up.
E. Kamaka ($ x6) 7 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SACK
Opposing his will on the Yeti offense lands Eli Kamaka next on our list. Contributing 7 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and a sack, he was front and center to secure a win that was inevitable in the first quarter. Since converting to defensive line at the start of the season, Eli has been tackling his way onto this list and into our hearts as he makes his 6th appearance. Next up, the Liberty host Yellowknife before heading to Baltimore in what are must win games to keep their playoff hopes alive.
A. Tomlinson ($$$$) 3 TCK, 2 SACKS
With 3 tackles and 2 sacks, Adamle Tomlinson is our lone Otter on the list this week. Facing the Las Vegas Legion, Tomlinson was able to put pressure on Wallace Stone all game and recorded 2 sacks in the process. Against a Legion offense that has favored the run, Tomlinson helped limit Savea to just 46 yards. Next up for OC, the host Baltimore which has not been a problem for them in the past. A win here would clinch their playoff berth.
Other Great Performers
A. Asipi ($x8) 4 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SACK
V. Cox ($x5) 4 TCK, 1 SACK
D. Miller ($ x9) 3 TCK, 1 SACK
R. Sandoval : hawks: ($x8) 3 TCK, 1 SACK
Asipi accumulated 4 tackles, a tackle for loss, and 1 sack in his week 12 performance just missing out on the top 3 spot. From there, we find V. Cox from Las Vegas who lands his honorable mention with 4 tackles and a sack. Last, we find both Dan Miller and R. Sandoval as they tied with identical performances and wrap up our list for this week with 3 tackles and a sack from each of them.
Team Appearances After Week 12*
Arizona: 26 (+2)
Baltimore: 26 (+2)
San Jose: 20 (+2)
Orange County: 20 (+1)
Philadelphia: 14 (+2)
Yellowknife: 14 (+1)
Las Vegas: 14 (+2)
Colorado: 12 (+1)
Out top 2 teams remain on top and with just 2 weeks left, this will not change. Dan Miller helps keep San Jose tied for 3rd in appearances. After that, there is a drop off until we reach Philadelphia with just 14 appearances in 12 weeks despite Kamaka making 6 appearances alone. Alongside Philly, the Wraiths and Legion both also have 14 appearances. Last we have Colorado with just 12 appearances. While Wozy and A.Sandoval are both frequent names on our list, they just aren’t getting any help inside.
As always, if you have any comments, corrections, or question, leave them for @manicmav36 below. Any praise can be directed to me though.
*Just a reminder, this ranking is not necessarily indicative of how well a team’s defense is operating as a whole, just how many times a player from that team has appeared on our list.
