Waking up at 7 am, I continue my self conversation wondering why anyone freely chooses to live in Texas while I shower, dress and eat breakfast. My go to breakfast choice is a nice big self made omelet loaded with ground pork, onions, hash browns, peppers, cheese, and asparagus. Send the game day ritual text “Marshal Up” to the team group chat. Most of the team has already been chatting about what they’ve had for breakfast and how pumped we are to play today.
I’ve been getting to the stadium via neighbors and newly made friends. I bribe them to give me a ride to the stadium in exchange for the all access pass the team allows me to give out for each home game. I hope the bribe will allow me some grace with neighbors if I ever host one of our ruckus team parties. It has also been a great way to connect with locals not associated with the team.
When I get to the stadium I do a ritual visit of the field before going inside the locker room. So far every time I do this I get emotional reminiscing the fact I no longer get to play on the Boise State Blue field. Hopefully one of these game day mornings I’ll be happy walking across a green field.
Once I get to the locker room the emotions pass away as I hear and see my teammates hyping themselves up with music, jokes, and the typical sports banter. I can’t help but get excited in anticipation of making another QB regret his choices for a day.
