6. Palm Beach Solar Bears (No Change)
Yards/Game - 161.5 (4th)
Comp % - 60.2 (6th)
Yards/Att - 7.14 (6th)
Sack % - 3.2 (6th)
Opp. QB Rating 97.2 (6th)
The numbers are not pretty, but this is actually a dramatic improvement from the last time we checked in. The Solar Bears average yards per game allowed has dropped by over 20 yards since Week 4, and they have gotten better across the board in terms of efficiency.
5. Tijuana Luchadores (Down 3)
Yards/Game - 189.4 (6)
Comp % - 54.5 (4)
Yards/Att - 6.21 (4)
Sack % - 6.2 (3)
Opp. QB Rating - 74.7 (5)
This may come as a shock considering Tijuana went 3-0-1 in the past four weeks and holds the best record in the league. However, they did not reach those heights on the back of their pass defense, whose opposing QB rating has risen nearly twenty points in the last four weeks. Tijuana also has only had 1 interception in their past four games.
4. Kansas City Coyotes (Up 1)
Yards/Game - 143.2 (2)
Comp % - 55.1 (5)
Yards/Att - 6.19 (3)
Sack % - 6.1 (4)
Opp. QB Rating - 73.8 (4)
Kansas City is still fortunate that opposing teams are not throwing the ball more often against them. However, the Coyotes have shown some improvement in terms of efficiency in the past few weeks. They have still struggled with forcing turnovers though, with only four interceptions in eight games.
3. Norfolk SeaWolves (Up 1)
Yards/Game - 172.4 (3)
Comp % - 50.0 (2)
Yards/Att - 6.57 (5)
Sack % - 4.1 (5)
Opp. QB Rating - 68.3 (3)
Norfolk has struggled on offense (even making a change at QB recently) and stopping the run, but their pass defense has been the pleasant surprise of the season, only allowing an impressive 50% of passes to be caught. The Seawolves still struggle with the deep ball though, and would be greatly helped by a more consistent pass rush.
2. San Antonio Marshals (Up 1)
Yards/Game - 145.4 (3)
Comp % - 52.2 (3)
Yards/Att - 5.79 (2)
Sack % - 8.2 (1)
Opp. QB Rating - 67.2 (2)
The Marshals cornerbacks continue to impress, and have improved recently as well. The real star of the show has been the defensive line, consistently disrupting plays with a league leading 18 sacks on the year. Star CB Louisiana Purchase has been boom or bust in terms of interceptions, but is also tied for first in pass deflections with 10.
1. Portland Pythons (No Change)
Yards/Game - 118.8 (1)
Comp % - 46.7 (1)
Yards/Att - 4.82 (1)
Sack % - 6.2 (2)
Opp. QB Rating - 50.5 (1)
The question facing Portland was can they maintain an elite defense when facing tougher competition. While the numbers were bound to return to sanity, the answer has mostly been 'yes'. Despite facing Tijuana and San Antonio (twice) in the past four weeks, the Pythons maintain the lead in nearly all categories.
