1. Revenge
The team that I want revenge on is the Arizona Outlaws. I really like Swag and a lot of those guys that play over there, but when you punch someone out that is above your weight class, you know you're going to breed some bad blood. The Outlaws finished the season at 5-8, fourth in the division, and three weeks from the end of the season they took us down in a 16-12 home loss that stung more than any of the four total losses we had on the season. No doubt, playing Arizona is always a tough game. We have a Yankees and Red Sox level rivalry over the history of this league, both being dominant for periods of time and especially being from the same conference. The Outlaws may be in a bit of a transitional period, but when we play them next season, hopefully we're firing on all cylinders. No matter how much of an on paper talent division there is between our two teams, the games are always knockdown, drag-out slugfests that both emotionally and physically exhausting for everyone involved. Those AZ boys better be ready, because when the Otters come marching into Arizona next season, we're going to be 100% ready to play.
2. Offseason Needs
I'd say that the biggest area of need that should be addressed on the Otters this offseason is the defensive line. I don't mean to blow my own horn, especially since that's a very NOLA thing to do, but I've been one of the best defensive tackles in the game for awhile now. Other than when the now very skinny AJ Lattimer was on the line with me, we really haven't had much talent present on the defensive front. There have been a hodge-podge of low level guys or dudes willing to take cheap contracts near the end of their careers, but we haven't had anyone to form a one-two punch with me. That may be because the rest of our defense is absolutely stacked and we just don't have the cap room for anyone else. I understand how management could feel like they don't really need any other talent up front with Thor holding down the center of the field. Sadly though, I have to admit that I may be losing a step too, and it's time to get some young, fresh, eager players in here who are passionate about playing on the line the way I have always been. That's my suggestion for the Otters this offseason and hopefully one of the higher ups takes the time to read this.
3. Penalty Box
Let me start this off by saying that I love Lanzer Grievous. He's one of my Fanta brothers and he's one hell of a linebacker. Any young guy coming into the league now would be blessed to ever play on the same level as this guy. That being said, he can get heated in a real hurry. I mean, I'm not always known for keeping my temper in check, but Lanzer can straight blow up when we're out on the field and I've seen him get up in some dude's face-masks before. He loves to jaw with the competition an sometimes with the refs even, so it wouldn't be to anyone's surprise that that guy might end up in the penalty box at some point. I mean, hell, he may spend a lot of time there over the course of the season. He's not one of these real jackass guys that's going to come out and try to hurt a dude on the field or anything. He's just super competitive and loves to run his mouth when he plays. That doesn't always go over well with the zebras or the other team, and it's gotten a little hairy out there in the past. If you're an Otters fan and you love Lanzer, get ready to see your boy in the box some next season.
4. Brotherly Love
This is going to be a bit of a love letter to my man Dwyer. I've spent most of my time in this league, going on ten seasons, shitting on Dwyer any chance I got. He was one of those guys that you could just tell would be able to handle it and hand it back with no problem. I know he's kind of a big deal around here since he's been doing it big time from the very beginning with King Bronko, but when I joined he was just a guy I kind of recognized from another league and got an opportunity to know. I really enjoyed sharing a locker room with Dwyer and hopefully I'll have a chance to do it again, but I was always more impressed with how he held down the commissioners job here. It's a difficult job that usually lands you as public enemy #1 for one reason or another, and he put a lot of his time and energy into that job for quite some time. Dwyer, when you read this or have someone read it to you (I don't know where you're at in your hooked on phonics program) just know that I miss sharing a team with you brother and hopefully you're out there doing the Lord's work.
