3. Revenge
If there’s a team I want to pummel to the ground and dominate, It’s the New Orleans Second Line. They completely derailed the second half of our season. We met them at 7-0 and they beat us at home. We ended up recovering by the time the playoffs rolled around but we really stumbled our way to the playoffs. We ended up going 9-4 after starting 7-0. This means we were 2-4 over our last 6 games. This included losses against teams like Yellowknife and getting blown out the last game of the regular season by the Yeti. We got some of that revenge back by winning the Ultimus again, but admittedly I’m still a little bitter about how the regular season got derailed towards the end there. I felt I had a pretty good chance of getting some awards but I was absolutely awful down the stretch. It was a very painful experience. I’m hoping for some more opportunities to show that team that we’re better. Another aspect of revenge is that this team passed on me after multiple opportunities to draft me back during the season 15 draft. Looking back I’m glad I didn’t get drafted there. I’m proud to be an Otter for life!
10. Commissioner
Being a commissioner is a tough job. Considering our long time commissioner is leave us, there remains a gaping void. A gaping void in which Dwyer called home. Unfortunately, after Dwyer was berated for anything under the sun, he has finally decided to call it quits, leaving NSFL fans and personnel wondering who will bear the brunt of their abuse now. Currently there are no takers when it comes to the NSFL Commissioner spot and it’s with good reason. Some would say it’s not worth the stress. The powers that be seemed to have decided to rule by a round table approach. One wonder what improvements1 could be made in this league. For one, money has to be easier to obtain. For most players, it is essential for training, nutrition, and just daily life. Money, in terms of contracts and fully guaranteed money have to rise. The NSFL may be in decline with the amount of players who refuse to play in the NSFL due to low income opportunities. Another way to improve the NSFL is taking the initiative to invest in player safety and mental health. Players aren’t disposable pawns for our sick pleasure but are instead, true human beings and we can’t treat them like Dwyer used to treat them. As sources of money and nothing more. Anyways, that’s what I would chance if I was commissioner which will never happen.
11. Heroic Performance
This season’s heroic performance has to go to Franklin Armstrong in Ultimus Bowl XIX. This game looked like it would be similar to last season’s defensive slugfest of an Ultimus but the 2nd half was a back and forth exciting match full of big plays. The first half ended 10-3 with Armstrong throwing pick that ended up leading to points for the hungry Yellowknife Wraiths. He stayed the course, driving the team down at the end of the half for a quick field goal to put the game at a 1 score lead. He then tore off a touchdown run from 13 yards out during the 3rd quarter to even the game at 10-10. He then got the ball back and immediately led them down another short drive, ending on a touchdown pass to his number one target Hugh Mongo. This led to a wild 4th quarter involving 5 scoring plays. The Otters found themselves down 23-27 as the Wraiths roared back to take the lead late. Armstrong got the ball back with 4 minutes to go and in 2 minutes led them down for a touchdown drive to put them back on top. The defence did the rest. Armstrong had 3 total touchdowns in the game and finished as the Otters leading rusher. He won his 3rd straight Ultimus Player of the Game award, tying him for most all time.
13. Get interviewed by a vet. I sat down with @LordMacharius and answered some of his questions!
1. How does it feel winning the Ultimus again/three-peating?
It feels great. As a 3rd round pick who was sent down to the DSFL for 2 more seasons after getting drafted, immediately winning 3 Ultimus’s in your first three season in the NSFL is mindblowing to me. But I’m not satisfied. My motto for my 4th season in the NSFL is #IWant4.
2. Which team do you think will be the most dangerous team to the dynasty next year?
The most dangerous team to the Otters dynasty is..*drum roll please*..the New Orleans Second Line. Which of course happens to be your team Mach. Your team really hurt us this season as you guys were the ones who ended our undefeated season. We managed to get some revenge in the playoffs but that game was very close too. Seems like you guys are gonna be hot on our heels this season!
3. What excites you most about the next season?
Just getting back on the field with my guys. This is a very close knit team. We’ve played in some huge games over the past few season and we’ve come up big every single time. That’s how we’ve become the 3rd iteration of an Otters dynasty.
4. Which one of your teammates do you feel is most poised to have a breakout year next year?
I think Hugh Mongo has been a very solid player ever since I was called up. We’ve played together since my last season in the DSFL. He’s always been my number 1 option. He just had two TD receptions in the Ultimus including the game winner. I think this is the season he breaks out to be a Wide Recieiver of the Year candidate.
5. Is a hotdog a sandwhich?
Of course not! A sandwhich is a sandwhich, and a hot dog is a hot dog! Simple.
