The Austin Copperheads came into this offseason as NSFL Champions. While some may have assumed they'd be coasting through the offseason mantaining the same team to win back back championships, the truth is they had holes to fill. They had two aging veterans on their team that they needed to replace; corner back Xerxes Ridley and linebacker Sandip Bakshi. Lucky for the Copperheads, they had enough forsight to take care of Ridley's replacement last draft when they selected Victor Moreno. With Bakshi, though, they knew they needed to target a young and talented player to slot into his role this season. With the 11th overall pick, the Copperheads selected Holden Summers. He had a successful season as a Grey Duck where he and the Minnesota team went on to win the Ultimini. The Copperheads are hoping he can help duplicate a season like that for them.
The Copperheads also drafted defensive lineman Riles McTackle at 10th overall to build up their defensive line. McTackle is a man of few words but he is committed to the sport. He and Holden Summers actually know each other from a golf league and the Copperhead management hope that their relationship will help the locker room be more active. Looking to the future, the Copperheads also drafted Tree Gelbman, a tight end destined for the DSFL for another season where she plays for the Kansas City Coyotes.
The Copperheads want to win again and they have the team makeup to do it. By using what worked great last season and filling holes left with aging veterans, Austin hopes to be lifting another Ultimus very soon.
