This is the first in hopefully a series of pre-draft exclusive interviews aimed at highlighting S22 rookies.
Today I’m one Lucky Duck! This morning I got a chance to chop it up with Mo “Mamba” Magic and this dude is a beast! He is a captain for the Minnesota Grey Ducks and a natural leader in the Locker Room as well as monster earner! His enthusiasm and dedication come through during the interview. I was able to ask him a few questions about his experience so far in the league as well as some pre-draft specific stuff. The following is the transcript from our sit down.
Hey Mamba! With your schedule, I know you’re super busy. Stoked to have the chance to meet, thanks for the time.
**What’s been the biggest challenge for you in your rookie season?**
The biggest challenge for me this year was keeping up with all my fellow positional colleagues. This year is chalked full of talent at DT, and I think I’m a pretty damn good player. But I am ranked the 5th best player, and that has a lot to say about the immense amount of talent in this draft class.
**What do you look forward to in S22?**
I am looking forward to a new level of play and a new locker room full of friends and teammates. I am looking forward to playing football again, and to putting numbers back on the scoresheet. I am looking forward to Game Days, and Game Balls. Heck, there is so much to look forwards to!
**What’s your favorite thing about the league thus far?**
The people 100 percent. The people in this league have been fantastic! Yes there are characters out there, and people who don’t really vibe with my energy – but that’s reality. Everyone is someone, and its been absolutely fantastic being involved in something that is pure passion from the bottom up.
**What round do you see yourself being drafted?**
Oddly enough, I’ve seen my stock drop in the last few weeks since the season has ended. My agent (Michael) is saying that as the draft draws closer the positioning becomes a little easier to predict. I had hope to go in the first round. Heck, if this were any other draft class I think I would. But I’m grateful to included in the likes of such talented individuals. My latest report from my agent said that they’re expecting me to go anywhere from 13-30 (second-early third round).
**What makes you marketable?**
Who doesn’t love the Mamba baby? Nah, but in all seriousness, I’m a team player. I’ll put on whatever - helmet, pads, socks, stickers, you name it. If it’s for the team, I will do it with a smile. I’ve had some people try to tell me that Michael might be a problem, but I don’t see why. I’ve been with the Grey Ducks all season now, and did y’all see anything come out of Michael’s mouth about the Grey Ducks? Fools be trippin’ if they think I’ma feed strats to my brother.
**What have you done differently to help your player stand out?**
I see a lot of prospects out there running they mouth, trying to put everyone else down. Nah homie, end of the day, we’re all just trying to feed our families, and eat that good bread. Mo Mamba knows nothing but love for his team, and the guys on the other side of the field. We all trying to get that same thing.
But if you think for one second that means I won’t try to put yo ass into the dirt from trying to run on me, think again. Mo has lots of love to give, but Mo also has lots of hits to give too. Line em up baby!
**Being drafted in what round would be a disappointment to you, and how would you handle that situation?**
7th round and below. Michael told me that anything lower than that and people are looking at guys who miss practice often, aren’t always giving it their all. That ain’t me. If I slide to the 7th round, first off, I’ma have some words with Michael. 8th round is a hell of a lot different that 2nd-3rd round. Second off, I’m put in even more work than I did before (not that I think that’s possible). Who ever takes that chance on me is gunna get a man on a hellbent mission to tear everyone a new one.
** Alright big dog, I know you’re short for time so we’ll wrap this up. One more question, Biscuit or English muffin?**
Muffin homie – I ain’t no birddog thing, I don’t eat no biscuits. What the hell is a birddog even? You're either a bird, or a dog. You can't be both.
That’s it, everyone thanks for checking this out! Hopefully you got the sense of enthusiasm from Mamba I did during the interview. This dude is the real deal and a lead pipe lock for an early round pick in the upcoming NSFL draft!
Stay tuned for more interviews and insight into some of the big time prospects!
