Draft day is finally here, and Sharpei has had a stressful last couple of days, after being notified that the Baltimore Hawks traded back from the #4 pick in the draft, realizing that going back to Baltimore was no longer in the equation. So Vincent decided to invite some family over to help him de-stress and try to think ahead. Two family members that are over at the house, Chris Orosz of the Yellowknife Wraiths and Alex Hansen of the Wraiths sit and wait anxiously with Vincent throughout the day. To help get his mind off of things, they bring out the grill and barbeque. Sitting in the back yard, it’s time to crack open some beers and let the day go by. It’s still only 12:00 Noon, and there is eight hours before draft. Vincent scrolls through his phone and starts to invite people over, instead of making this just a family event, he starts to invite close friends as well, what else can you do while you wait for the draft?!
Around 3:00 P.M., people start showing up with food, drinks and everything under the sun to help Vince keep his mind of the draft. Multiple different kinds of beer, different foods, and many different games. Something people don’t know about Sharpei is that he is a huge gamer guy, board games, card games, computer games, it doesn’t matter, and Vincent will play it if it catches his eye. More and more people continue to show up to the Sharpei household, spilling out from the house into the back yard, and front yard, it’s becoming almost uncontrollable. It went from a select few people and became an all-out free for all. Whoever knew Sharpei, or anyone else that was at the party started showing up, it damn near started to turn into a block party.
The police showed up around 4:30 P.M., to try and shut it down. Vincent had to go outside to talk to the police about what was happening and it got messy. Vince tried to explain to the police that this was all just a huge misunderstanding, it was supposed to only be a small party but it blew up out of proportion. The cops explained to Vince that this was out of hand and he had to shut it down, Vince tried to but nobody was listening to him. From the second floor of the house, a television was thrown out the window and landed onto the police car. Sharpei knew this was going to end badly, and decided instead of getting others in trouble, he would take the blame. The police radioed for back up, and put Sharpei in cuffs and began to raid the house to shut the party down.
7:30 P.M., Sharpei is in the police station, waiting, hoping to be released soon enough so he can get home and see how much damage was done to his house. Finally, after three hours of interrogation and explanation over and over again, Vincent was dropped of charges and released to the world again. Vincent picked up the phone and called Chris Orosz to get a ride back to the house so that he can try to be home in time for the draft. The time was ticking while Vincent waited for Chris to come get him, fifteen minutes to draft and Chris finally showed up.
Driving home took what seemed to be forever, when in reality it was only a five minute drive. It was one of those things where you feel like you’ve been in the car forever, hitting every red light, all the traffic, and just can’t do anything to win while you struggle to make it home after a double shift at your job. When Sharpei arrived home, he grabbed his phone, put it on loud, and begin to clean up the “Man-Cave” so he could at least watch the draft.
8:00 P.M., the moment of reckoning, there was no way Dermot Lavelle wasn’t going #1 overall, so Vincent didn’t worry about that. The Yeti are on the clock, and quickly select Blaster Blade. Third pick is up, and there is something that goes wrong with the television, as it shuts off. Sharpei quickly pulls out his phone to see what happens, and sees that Tim Pest has been selected by Arizona. The Sabercats are on the clock, and Vince’s phone starts going off. A 408 area code number is calling, Vincent picks up the phone, and it’s Ja Brill. Mr. Brill informs Vincent, “Hey Vincent, Its Ja Brill from the San Jose Sabercats. I just wanted to inform you that we are on the clock, and after much debate, we are going to draft you #4 Overall, we will have someone over at your house soon and are going to set you up with a quick press conference, Welcome to San Jose Man!” Vincent Replies “Thank you so much for the opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started. Let’s make this season one to remember!”
Vince looks over towards Chris, and gives him a big hug (possibly injuring his throwing shoulder… nobody knows), and throws his phone into the air. He flips the couch back the right way, sits down, puts his head in his hands and looks down, after all this hard work and dedication, everything is finally paying off. From being a waiver wire pick up, to the #4 overall draft pick in the Second Season of the NSFL, everything is turning up Vincent Sharpei. Nothing is going to stand in his way and Vince continues to strive for greatness, and will continue to push to be the best he can be.
Working with Ben Longshaw is going to help Vincent become a better player, and hopefully they can make the San Jose Line look like something opposing defensive lines will not want to face in the trenches. Only time will tell what will happen, but it’s beginning to look like San Jose is going to become a Pancake City.
