Look: the Royals and Tijuana make some sense, they’re “minor” league after all. Yellowknife makes sense in that it’s Canadian (the actual location itself we won’t go into lmao). More teams in Canada/Mexico wouldn’t be unreasonable to me. BUT, we’ve already seen teams can be cool and unique in the USA (Sarasota, Honolulu, etc).
My biggest concern is getting teams in like, idk, Italy (I love Italy don’t hurt me) or something like that. At that point, it’s just blatant lack of realism to me. Unless you have an entire conference that plays within itself out in Europe (or Asia if you had teams proposed there), it makes 0 sense. I also worry about how some PTs would work for people on those far away international teams (like the, describe your daily life on days without practice, type ones), though that is a lesser concern to me.
TLDR: takes away from the realism and enjoyment to have teams that are ridiculously far away, IMO.
(Also I reiterate once more: good stuff w/ everything HO!)
I agree with my boy run here.
I have multiple times talked about future expansion and that if we want to go international it has to be done in a batch. Like atleast 4 teams. I don't mind seeing international teams becoming a thing perse, it gives us more unique location options without us having to do every huge city in the states or canananda, but having 12 north american teams and then 1 team in europe and 1 in asia would just be kinda wack and feel very odd.
I know getting to the point of having enough players to warrant a 4 team expansion is very unrealisitic, so adding international teams slowly would be the way to go, but it would still be very inbalanced and odd.
Now, Honolulu to Sarasota is 4,687 miles. Sarasota to London is 4,445 miles.
The distance between Honolulu and Baltimore is probably bigger than that.
Honolulu to Tokyo is 3,849 miles
Obviously Honolulu to London is fucking far, Sarasota to Tokyo is also pretty fucking far but is a 12-14 hour flight is already in the league, an 18 hour or 20 hour flight is basically the same thing. You aren't gonna land after a 12 hour flight and hit the field, but maybe you do, you can also land after an 18 hour flight and do the same thing and feel the same way. If Honolulu was allowed in, we can reach a lot of the world as an international conglomerate.
Honolulu only plays each out of conference team once per season, and Sarasota doesn’t play the Royals. (Also bruh 12 hours terrible but 18 a NIGHTMARE)
I’m with Raven; if we have a whole third conference of international teams from a region, that seems gucci to me. But how far are we from being able to have a while third conference I wonder?
