For James Gath it was a strange feeling being in the green room on draft night not knowing where he'd go. In the past he had always been confident about what would happen next. So often the first one picked for just about anything athletic but now, entering the DSFL, the tables had turned. He was a fresh rookie, unknown before just a couple weeks prior, and couldn't count on the history he was used to repeating itself. He knew the Grey Ducks were looking at him, he knew a few other teams were too. Falling out of the first round wasn't going to be an option - he'd probably have just gone inactive and joined up in the NFL. Pick one and the Pythons are on the clock. Gath hadn't talked much with the Pythons, they had only reached out to him a short bit before the drafting started. His expectations were low. They picked safety Davriel Lavigne - a fine pick and James wasn't surprised. Whatever comfort he felt though was soon washed over with nerves as Minnesota was on the clock. Knowing that GOAT TANK was still on the board he thought it was possible he could slip out of the first and fall to the second. But the pick was in.
"So with the second pick Minnesota selects... James Gath Cornerback."
Nearly as quickly as it began it was over. Gath could sigh a short sigh of relief. He didn't have to wait any longer. No, now he just had to work.
