Rucker was quite the high school athlete in Toronto but given his geographical location combined with the lack of scoutish from Universities it was unlikely Rucker was going to be featured in many big colleges plans. Despite this he still average a 4.5 star recruit rating across Scout.com, 247Sports and Rivals. Rucker would commit to Syracuse for his college education offer alongside his football offer, albeit it's difficult to say which came first. his education was always placed at the forefront of his priorities. Rucker's offer did come in part due to his business acumen, as exampled recently with his connection with Crusty Butter, as much as his football ability. His Economics and Business degree offer came first in his mind before his football offer did. He would take his helmet and pads with him with nothing more than a vague desire to hopefully play at some level, albeit without the thought that he'd become entrenched as an award winning start at Syracuse. What would follow would be an intense summer training session with Rucker doing everything he could to keep his studies afloat whilst juggling the career of an aspiring student athlete. Eventually Rucker would lock himself into a start position prior to the start of the season and he didn't look back, notching 39 tackles.
