Cleg was an orphan for his whole life until he was adopted by a local High School football coach, Reginald Pumpershrew. Cleg started playing football in middle school and was very gifted athletically and was tall for his age. He started at tight end and wide receiver until he got to high school where Cleg made the permanent switch to tight end. Cleg did very well for his run heavy offense proving himself as a very lethal blocker. This drew attention from many college in the area, but Cleg ultimately chose East Carolina University because the is where his foster parent Reginald went. Cleg did not do very well in his freshman year of college and was very disappointed with his stats. But his sophomore year is where Cleg really shined as a receiver. Cleg recorded 83 catches for 926 yards and 7 touchdowns. After a change in the offensive scheme to a more run heavy offense, Cleg's stats went down a bit but his pancakes went up with this style of offense. Cleg committed to the DSFL draft after his third year in college and was drafted 50th overall by the Minnesota Grey Ducks. Cleg only spent a year on the Ducks before being drafted by the Sarasota Sailfish.
