After a second consecutive playoff appearance for the Chicago Butchers, I believe they are in a prime position to take the top seed in the NSFC and win the Ultimus. Aside from the team improving this can also be attributed to key losses by the Colorado Yeti and the Sarasota Sailfish, the two teams that finished ahead in the Butchers in the playoffs for the last two years. During the offseason the Yeti lost franchise QB Wolfie McDummy to retirement, and reigning MVP Dexter Banks II retired from Sarasota as well. With any luck, these two powerhouse teams will have a season of downtime to allow the Butchers to snag the conference title.
Perhaps the most notable change in the Chicago locker room is that the Butchers added a ton of beef to their offensive line, as the roster now boasts 5 human OL with the additions of star linemen Givussafare Rubbe and Julio Jones (along with a 6th OL, Alexander Franklin, waiting in the wings after being taken in the first round).
On defense, the Butchers' only personnel change was to replace the retired safety Raphael D'Alcott with rookie sensation Damian Blackfyre, formerly of the Minnesota Grey Ducks. With a defensive unit that allowed the second-fewest points per game in the league last season seemingly improving, the championship window for the Butchers is firmly open.
