This offseason was a very crazy time for Ernest Lover. Having completed his first full season in the DSFL, Lover was eligible for the ISFL draft. He entered the draft with excitement and trepidation. After conversations with scouts and management at many different teams, Lover wasn’t sure where he would end up but he knew he had put his best foot forward. And on draft day it didn’t take long for Lover to hear his name called, going 3rd overall to the Baltimore Hawks. With positions on the defensive line opening up on the Hawks, it was clear that Lover was going to be called on right away to play in Baltimore. This meant the offseason was a time of great transition. Lover and his family had to say goodbye to friends and teammates in London, pack up their home, and make the move back to the U.S.
For Lover, this has meant getting used to a new team locker room, one that’s very different from what he was used to in London. While the Royals were all about training together to become a strong defensive unit and developing young talent, Baltimore has many established personalities and veterans who are competing for the best stats. This is difficult for Lover who has struggled to stand out on the field being still a relatively new player to the league. But Lover is continuing to work hard and improve his game each week as he gets more familiar with the new playbook and the higher level of play. He knows he will rise to the occasion and will do his best to help a mediocre Hawks team with a budding defense continue to build through S26.
