The Austin Copperheads are the number one candidate to bounce back after a slow 1-3 start. There is simply too much talent on the roster to justify their poor performance through the first quarter of the season. The Copperheads rank in the upper echelon of TPE for all ISFL teams, and they were picked as a preseason favorite in the ASFC alongside the Arizona Outlaws. I believe their most glaring weakness lies in their defensive line, where three of their four linemen are under 700 TPE. This is somewhat borne out in the season thus far, as Austin is allowing 5.7 yards per carry while the league average is 4.1. I still believe they will be able to compensate for this relative weakness once Daytona finds his groove.
For an early overachiever, look no further than the San Jose Sabercats. After winning three consecutive games by a field goal, they boast an impressive 3-1 record despite a miniscule +6 point differential (oh look, another chance to point out how my team has a positive point differential at 1-3). Unfortunately for San Jose, the teams they are beating are not particularly impressive. The Sabercats will care little about this of course and will be happy to chalk up a win as a win, but I will be surprised if they are able to sustain this level of success against the heavyweights of the ISFL, and they'll have an opportunity to prove me wrong tonight as they travel to Arizona.
