The first four weeks of the ISFL season are always exciting. I feel that four games is enough of a sample size to extrapolate from to determine a team's success (or lack thereof) for the season. However, this is certainly not always the case and I feel that there may be certain outliers in the league standings currently. First off, let's start with the overachievers. On the ASFC side of the ISFL, the San Jose Sabercats sit at a surprising 3-1 record. I don't think I am alone in the sentiment that the Sabercats' record is not indicative of their season-long performance. They have one of the worst offensive lines in the league, and their first four games were not against any particularly strong opponents. Look for them to drop in the rankings down the stretch.
Of course we have teams at the opposite end of the spectrum: those who are better than their records suggest. There are a few teams that fit this bill, but the one I'd like to focus on is the Austin Copperheads. Having just one win out of their four games played, the Copperheads figure to do better down the stretch. They have some offensive weapons in their prime such as RB Zoe Watts and WR Videl San. Even better than their offense, though, is their defense. The linebacking corp is arguably the best in the league and should easily be able to shut down opposing running backs. The Copperheads next 5 or so games are tough ones but they end the season with an easy stretch. Look for them to bounce back.
