Our biggest rival is probably pretty debatable. I'm sure there is a lot of history that I just do not know when it comes to Tijuana. However, in my time here, I'm going to say our biggest rival is the Ultimini.
Well, that's obviously not the most accurate choice but ultimately we have gone back-to-back seasons making it to the dance, and both times we got creamed. It is legitimately a curse at this point, I think.
If I have to give a real, single team answer, to me it's the Dallas Birddogs. In my experience with the league, Tijuana has been fighting with them for the top of the division for the most part. Tijuana has faced Dallas in the playoffs in two of the last three seasons, and may be on pace for a third run here this season as Dallas and Bondi Beach are only a game back of Tijuana on the top spot.
The good thing about talking about heart-breaking losses is -- well, I've experienced that. The Ultimini loss was clearly a perfect preview for this to show how things would manifest in the Tijuana locker room as really there weren't many major blow ups or anything. It was sad, of course, it would always be down. But it was hopeful, and focused us forward instead. Even those who would not be with us any longer were praised and wished the best.
Now, a lot of our older players have left at this point and so the one to step up would probably need to be me. Or I guess Gronku Muerto could. However, I think this is my place to shine now. I'm in what is likely to be my last season in the DSFL, and I have to step it up and guide the team forward and show that a tough loss isn't the end of the world. We can get over it, get past it, and we have. This is just another chapter in our journey, but the Ultimini is coming home sooner than later and we need to focus on being prepared for that and not moping about something we can no longer control.
