I have signed a one-year contract extension with my team because I’m not quite to the point of a long term career deal. It’ll pay for a couple of weeks of weekly training, but it won’t get me enough money to max out my potential with tier six equipment. I used to have a steady income writing media with my writing partner. We would cut huge checks for making up ish about different teams and people wouldn’t bother reading, but who cares, we get paid by the word. Nowadays, my writing partner has moved on and upward to bigger things in this league and no longer needs this outlet of money. And I’m still down here grinding by and waiting to see if anyone will grade my subpar graphics this week so I can pay for my next meal (weekly training).
So it came as a surprise when I went to check my bank app to see if my contract check came in and the total was 4 million dollars more than the agreed upon contract. I began to rack my brain to recall if there was a signing bonus. There’s no way because the bonus is more than what I make for the one-year contract. There has to be a mistake.
I call my GM and let them know of the mistake without question. It’s not my money. It’s not my opportunity to donate to a charity. Someone made a mistake and it’s my responsibility to be honest because that’s what I would appreciate if the roles were flipped.
