Hello everyone and welcome to this in-depth review of the new look Coyote team for S33. It's a great pleasure to be part of this new KCC rebuild, and I wanted to share our great team with you all.
Firstly, let me send all of our best wishes to Dallas Fort-Worth, Bud R. Fingers, and of course our three-season QB Carter Knight, who all headed off to greener pastures in the ISFL in the off season. Losing 3 players may not sound like much to a lot of teams, but losing your QB, only receiver, and keystone lineman is a big deal for a team so small. In fact, we were left with 3 players on the roster pre-draft, so you can imagine just how important the draft was to us.
--
As a team in transition, expectations have to be muted, despite the excitement that comes with rebooting a team loaded with rookies. We had a horrible run of 5 Ls last season, but despite that were just one win against Minnesota away from making the playoffs. A ton of things will have to go our way this year to even consider playoffs, including some competent GM’ing, but I am personally setting a target of .500 and seeing if we can take it from there next season.
So! Let’s begin with those three remaining players we were forced to build the team around.
--
First up is locker room favorite Beeg Beeg Yoshi, who thankfully continues to be an essential member of our O-line and discord channel. We’re putting a lot of weight on their beeg beeg shoulders this year, but we are confident Yosh will continue to perform as a Pro-Bowl caliber lineman this season.
It’s hard to predict stats for OL, but I fully expect Yosh to be Pancake Lord by the end of season. I’m sure we’ll see Yosh improve on their very impressive 58 pancakes last season.
--
Next up is the other core aspect of our offense this year, Zane Cold, RB. Despite a split field in which his partner racked up 900 yards and 5 TDs, Zane managed an incredible 1048 yards, making KCC the best running team in the DSFL. 6 TDs on top of that wasn’t bad at all, but we can see him easily hitting double figure TDs in the coming season.
Regardless of what we did in the draft, we knew Zane was going to be asked to carry this offense a LOT, knowing we’d have a season of transition as we load the offense with rookies. I fully expect them to finish this season as a contender for RB of the year, likely adding several hundred yards to their 1000 last year.
--
The only other remaining member of the team was Greg Strongjaw. No contributions noted.
--
Which brings us the draft class! Between the draft and waivers, we have (so far) added 10 new faces to our locker-room, at least two more than any other team. We’re super excited to see how they pan out, with high hopes for a contending season next year, once they have all established themselves in the league in terms of TPE and figuring out their positions.
Let’s start with the offense, and the big news of the draft: KCC got a QB! Trevor Lorenzen, the big arm with the bigger heart, is set to come into this season and take control over the offense. Despite KCC being forced to run the ball a lot, you can expect to see Trevor find his feet and connect with (Spoilers!) three shiny new receivers in his rookie season, before he becomes an essential part in KCCs rise to glory in the coming seasons.
This was the easiest pick of the draft for us. Wildfire has been a huge member of our locker room ever since we picked them up from waivers at the end of last season.
They have been online watching the games with us, chatting in all of our channels, making sigs for our players, keeping active over the holiday break, and being an all-round positive influence on our team. They’re also the kind of person who is very welcoming to all the prospects that join both our channel and the general ISFL channels. A perfect QB!
--
Speaking of receivers, we used a high pick to grab TE Virginia Emmet, who we’re hoping will grow alongside Lorenzen, as we get our own Brady - Gronk, or perhaps more locally appropriate, Mahomes - Kelce duo.
We were delighted to see Emmet available in the second round. Between a bunch of forum activity, and showing up in multiple discord channels, we’re impressed by their start in the league, and we are going to work hard to keep them around and make them a top DFSL TE over the next season or two.
--
Continuing with the offensive weaponry, we have Ram 1500, a RB who we’ll be utilizing all over the field, not just at running back. We’ll be getting the ball in his hands as much as possible, using him a lot as a pass catching RB, and WR2, on top of some running relief for Zane Cold.
His user, 24redcrayons, has already shown their commitment to the league by getting an offensive lineman to well over 1000 TPE, and with huge support from our scouts in the war room, we’re optimistic that Ram will be a monster for us for the next 2-3 seasons.
--
Working through that offense, we now come to the potential steal of the off-season, late joiner and waiver pickup Alex Armstrong. With no prior experience in the league, their user Element, within 24 hours of being in the league, almost doubled their TPE, and spent a lot of time in discord asking for help and tips. If Element keeps this up, this is someone who would have been a first round pick if they joined the league a little earlier. Immediately becomes our star WR for us, as we look to build our offense and take us from a running team, to a more well rounded offense.
--
Which now takes us to the defense, where we begin with one single player, DE Greg Strongjaw, hoping to find some new team mates to make our defense something to be reckoned with.
And with that we used our first round big on none other than RussDrivesTheBus, aka Russet Buster, CB. One of our biggest issues on D last season was repeatedly getting blown up on long bombs down the field. So here we are with a speedy CB who we know will earn well and dominate the secondary for us.
There’s one thing every new player in this draft has in common; They’ve likely been greeted by Russ as soon as they signed up to the discord. KCC is in a period of making a new image for themselves, and getting a known friendly face to continue that transition is a big deal for us. While we hope for two, even getting Russ to stick around for just one season is a great step in our aim to make the KCC locker room a place people want to be. Such a helpful and consistent contributor to the world of ISFL, he’s a great name to now have attached to the Kansas City Coyotes.
--
Sticking to the secondary, let’s move to another waiver of ours, Bom Trady, S. Aka Feral. Prior to the draft, we hadn’t had much time with Feral, but the immediate impression we get is that they’re ready to play, learn, and big a great waiver pickup for us. We’re looking forward to having Feral become a regular member of our locker room.
Between Bom Trady and Russet Buster, we’re finally feeling like we can at least begin to handle some of the deep throwing teams in the league.
--
And last, but certainly not least, I present to you my prized picks, no less than 3 DEs, to add to the one we already had (me).
We took Matthew Ashley in the third round, yet another discord-active new user on the board, who also interviewed well. So we had to take thattacklingguy here to join Strongjaw on our D-Line. He actually plays DE in real life, so that’s a nice little extra to have on the team. We really hope thattacklingguy becomes a big part of our locker room this season!
And then immediately after that we took another DE, Olajide Olatunji, owned by user soryantyler, who has a ton of experience in the league, a nice mixture to our new array of newbies.
AND THEN, they just keep coming, as we lucked out once more as DE Chim Rickles appeared for us to take off waivers, owned by user Jangorhino. Jango has immediately become a LR star, showing off some excellent sig skills, and already making things for the team. Yet another veteran on the team, we’ve ended up with a solid mix of new and old blood.
All 4 DEs will have their place both on the D-Line, and occasionally sprinkled in at LB, depending on formation needs. The capped might of Strongjaw may have to hold down the DT spot, freeing up our 3 rookies to rack up more stats at LB and DE. Must be a very compassionate and charitable user to make such a sacrifice.
--
Before we finish, we also have to count kicker Kit Houston, who unfortunately had to step back from the game for personal reasons, but not before ruining our 6000s counting channel. Her mark on the team will always be remembered.
--
AND THAT’S THE LOT. Ten new faces, making us thirteen strong, more than doubling our active user numbers from last year. I honestly could not be happier with what we put together over the off season. Cautious optimism can't be avoided, as we will do what we can to keep our players active, excited, and involved in several facets of the league. Between our LR and WR, we've got an array of ISFL GMs, seasoned vets, returning absentees, and hungry first timers. KCC is ready to begin this new journey as a brand new team.
Big thank you to frazzle14 and TheCC for helping us scout, and goes without saying all this was orchestrated by our main man at the helm, FirstFray, who has put together a great team of people in both the locker room and war room.
Thanks for reading, and don't forget to love each other!
