There has been an idea floating around the ISFL (and other sim leagues) that I think would be very beneficial to us. At this point, it’s more common than not for a sim user to have, at the very least, 2 players in 2 different leagues. Most people who get that “sim bug” tend to have a third as well. I’ve been around sim leagues for (holy shit) nearly 6 years now. I was around for the beginning of the ISFL and the PBE. And a big theme has been a power user showing up in a league as a new user. They make media, they go 1 OA, they’re super involved and love what sim leagues are about.GM’s get incredibly pumped because they have a new franchise player that they can (hopefully) center the franchise around for the next 10 seasons. These users then tend to get a league job, and branch out into other leagues. The problem here is that they tend to stretch themselves too thin, they burn out, and disappear. Or most times, they stick around but they can’t keep up with all of their players. Usually, they end up having a player that suffers. They don’t max earn on this player, mostly because they don’t have enough time to make the media, graphics, or whatever else to make the money required to get equipment and max training every week. So what can we do to curb this type of situation? I believe the ISFL should work with the other major leagues (SHL, PBE, and even the WSBL) to create a standard “sim league dollar” that can be used in all of the leagues.
I know, that’s a little crazy. But very often you see these players with a “main” league having $100 million when they scrape elsewhere. Why not enhance the user experience in this way? Think about it. One way to achieve this goal would have to be getting all of the league in sync with their media and graphics payouts. This way, a dollar earned in one league is equal to a dollar in another. They can figure out job pay however they want. At least with media, ISFL is close to the exact same as PBE, considering I’m the media head in both. SHL underpays their media/podcasts now, so I can’t imagine the user base would be upset to get more bang for their work. Media is close to dead over there as it is, so enhanced pay outs could help. I don’t anything about the WSBL and I don’t care much, but they’d have to fall in line too.
So why do we want this? It’s pretty simple. It maximizes the user experience. It strongly reduces chances of burnout by players, and thus makes top picks for rebuilding football franchises less risky. Users don’t have to kill themselves to write media or get many jobs in multiple leagues, which tends to lead to players not wanting to spend all of their extra time per week on various sim leagues. Making things easier for everyone leads to better players and more player retention overall. It’s extremely beneficial for all of the leagues because of the very obvious reasons of keeping people invested in all of their leagues. Also, making things easier means the sim leaguers who are only in 1 or 2 leagues because of the work currently involved may end up joining the ones they aren’t in specifically because they don’t have to kill themselves to make it happen.
We don’t have to make this difficult. We can enhance the user base in the ISFL simply by creating a single sim dollar that works for everyone. We could have one big bank for us all that links all of the leagues. I really believe this will make things better for everyone. (640)
