5 years is a long time. Boom, scalding hot take I know. Like all the other rookies, I’ve only been around for a month and some change, but I’ve been thoroughly enjoying myself. From the new player experience to all the helpful and kind people on the various discord servers, what’s not to love? The community is obviously the crown jewel of this league, and it shows every single day. One moment that stood out to me, bizarrely in some sense, was the S34 DSFL draft. The reddit class had 1 or 2 games off the waiver wire before we were thrust into a whirlwind offseason full of TPE and adventure. The anticipation was building towards the big day, when we would have our proverbial moment in the spotlight and find out where our new home would be. Then the day was finally upon us. I was on a work trip outside my state, lying on my tiny bed with my phone streaming the draft. It’s weird that it’s such a clear memory, but I’m sitting there clutching my phone, waiting for my name to be called, other people are flying off the board, and I just kept thinking surely I’ll be next. It felt like I was tumbling down the board though! When KC finally selected me, it was a fun mix of different emotions. I had been on a bit of an ego trip before the draft, thinking I might sneak into the first couple of rounds. So I was a bit frustrated, but also very excited to get started. And in the end it was a dope experience, seeing where all the new players got selected, meeting my new teammates. Just a fun range of different emotions, and a well put together production by everyone involved.
