If I was training the next generation of WR’s on becoming future superstars, there would be two types of drills that I would focus on: footwork and ball skills. Both are equally important to ensuring that everyone has fun and has the best opportunity to learn the position and have fun at the same time.
For footwork skills, I would demonstrate proper route running and explain why having good positioning is sometimes better than having good ball skills. I would also demonstrate good positioning and other footwork and conditioning drills.
For ball drills, I would get everyone used to holding footballs and have some fun ball catching drills I would demonstrate how to perform on scramble drills and have drills where they catch footballs onto foam pits for fun. This would help keep everyone engaged and would also help the next generation of pass catchers learn the fundamentals of ball skills. Finally, I would run a WR skills competition.
