These kids should consider themselves lucky that the Royals picked me to be in charge of their training camp. The Big Joe Reed Defensive Tackle Training Camp (BJRDTTC) only lasts for one day, but to the kids that show up it will feel like a lifetime. We will start with basic conditioning drills because I don’t care about introductions. I don’t care about any sob story or inspiration, I am there to make them better and they are there to get better. First will be 20 yard sprints and we run them until every kid beats me because if they can't beat me then they have no shot at making the big leagues. Once every kid has beat me we will move on to toughness drills starting with bull in the ring. I will be the first bull so every kid that comes at me better come strapped up because they will get put on their ass. This drill will teach them that that they need to be tough and power through the pain to achieve their goals. Lastly for the kids that make it that far I will show them footwork and hand placement drills because once your body and mind are tough, fundamentals are key to being a star defensive tackle.
