In our teams training camp, I would make sure to teach them drills that are based on agility and speed first. As a cornerback, it is vital to have those two components to keep up with receivers. First off, we will plan to slide through cones like in basketball in order to work on our lateral agility. Next, we will be doing short sprints in order to show them the burst of speed they need to play the position. And just for fun, we will make them run a mile as well. In terms of technical skill, we will teach them to intercept passes. As a cornerback, I know that the only thing that matters for the position is interceptions. I could let up 300 yards per game but as long as I get an interception it all makes up for it. The kids will run out to the pylon and then turn to intercept the ball and do their best celebration.
