Coming from an indoor sport like Basketball I don't have a ton experience playing outside at least at a highly competitive level. Growing up we'd play on outdoor hoops and just compete in the neighborhood that way. When we did that rain was almost the most fun to play in just made everything go a little bit faster. I think rain could really help offensive line pancake numbers and a lot of defensive statistics. However, the negative affect rain would have on offenses would be a bit too much. Our QBs deserve the proper environment to show off their talents. I think if weather started to affect games it would benefit the teams with good run offense/defense. As an offensive lineman I say bring on the rain and watch me set a pancake record or two along the way.
However, the rain would also negative impact the fans and ticket sales. Fans would likely not be as willing to come out in the rain. However, the ones who did come out might have a more memorable experience you can really bond with your team suffering in the rain together and could build comradery. I remember when I was with Kim in North Korea, we had taken a hike through the woods together and right as we came to the summit of the hill it started to downpour. Oh, the memories of us getting stuck in the rain together as we ran to try and get back to the house. We slipped on the mud and tumbled down a hill together. When we stopped falling, I realized that Kim had somehow gotten on top of me...... but that's a story for another time. Long story short I think weather could bring an interesting element to the game although it's not necessary.
