I had the recent privilege of sitting down for coffee with recently signed Kansas City Coyotes tight end Seth Leavitt last week. A fellow URI alumni himself, I was surprised to hear that he intended to return to our little state for some downtime in the off-season. Having laid down local roots, I couldn't help but ask what was on his agenda.
SL: "Well, I'll still have to hit the gym a lot... but I'll probably try to get down to Narragansett a few times each week. I'm kind of a salt water junkie."
RIMonthly: I hear the waves at Point Judith are great this year, do you surf?
SL: "No, I mostly lay on the beach and enjoy the breeze. I do like striped bass fishing though, so if I'm not on a towel I'm usually at the pier or on a skiff with some friends."
RIMonthly: So that's it? Just the beach and some fishing?
SL: "Pretty much, yeah. Spending time with my family is very important too, but I usually try to drag them out into the sun with me. That and to dinner, gotta eat a lot of calories for training."
RIMonthly: Do you have a favorite restaurant?
SL: "Hah, I'd have a really hard time picking. Capriccio in Providence is probably the best, but it depends what I'm in the mood for. Any place on Federal Hill is great. The Abbey for burgers and Casertas for pizza obviously."
RIMonthly: Obviously. Are you hitting up the nightlife scene in Providence after dark?
SL: "No, I'll catch a show at PPAC now or a Friars game at the Dunkin Donuts Center now and then, but mostly I like to hang out at home. Sitting with friends around the fire pit or reading a book."
RIMonthly: The playbook?
SL: "Of course the playbook! And some trashy sci-fi novels. But if my coaches are reading this, definitely the playbook."
You can catch more of Seth Leavitt on the DSFL Kansas City Coyotes every Tuesday and Thursday for the rest of this season, and we wish him well with the DSFL draft heading into next season! I'm sure we'll sit down with him again soon.
