It is well known in the curling community that the Halcomsby household has produced generations of world class talents in the sport of curling. Since as far back as when the sport was first introduced in the Olympics during the Chamonix 1924 olympiad which then became a mainstay after the Nagano 98 games, the Halcomsby have been at the forefront of their nations success in the sport, with gold medals raining down and pride spread throughout. Initially from Great Britain, the Halcomsby family crossed the sea to establish themselves in the maritimes of Canada. Following into Walter Halcomsby's footsteps, gold medallist at the 1924 games, they established their towns curling federation and have since been a renowned name acrosse the country.
So how does this connect to football you might ask? Quite simply put, Martin and Anna, Bourtol's parents, were on a trip down south when life would force them to reconsider their plans when Anna went into labor in Charleroi, Pennsylvania. With nothing in site, the father had to deliver the baby and since then, Charleroi has held a pivotal place in their hearts, so much so that they would eventually move there in the summers to enjoy time away from home. As such, Bourtol grew up on playing pick up football with the kids and grew a passsion for a sport other than Curling, football. Despite the undeniable talent on the ice, and success in international competition, Bourtol left behind a what would've been promising international and olympic career in the Halcomsby's flagship sport to play college football at Penn State, and time has proven that to be wise decision!
Everything is to come for the young defensive tackle, and the future is bright!
