Prompt 1 - 602 words.
I couldn’t be more happy to talk about the S38 DSFL champions - the Kansas City Coyotes! As many of you probably know, I am a disgraced former Co-GM of the team, but I am so proud to be able to see them hoist the ultimini trophy in triumph after several tough seasons, especially by avenging the S35 Ultimini loss to the Norfolk SeaWolves. What makes it even sweeter is that it was KCC GOAT GM @firstfray to bring it home to Kansas City. Season 38 was definitely one for the ages for the Yotes, as they finished with a. Nearly perfect season, going 13-1, with the lone loss to the considerably good Minnesota Gray Ducks.
The Coyotes were great on all sides of the ball this season. The offense, lead by QB Craig Jerrith IV, lead the DSFL in passing yards and was tied for 2nd in touchdowns with 25 and only 15 interceptions. Jerrith IVs best performance of the season could possibly be the week 4 game against the SeaWolves. In that game the Coyotes would win 38-20, with Jerrith IV completing 75% of his passes for 311 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.
Jerrith IV couldn’t have done it alone, though, as he was surrounded by a great pair of Wide Recievers in Monty Cooper and Johnny Blaze Jr., TE Seth Leavitt (until he changed to cornerback), and sensational (dare I say potential MVP?) running back Sherwin Blue Jr.
Wide Receiver Monty Cooper had a great season in his own right. Finishing 5th in the DSFL for yards with 1123 on only 65 receptions, boasting a league 2nd best average yards per reception at 17.3. He also had 6 touchdowns on the season.
Other Wide Reciever Johnny Blaze Jr had an equally impressive season. Finishing 4th, above Cooper, in DSFL in receiving yards with 1160 and a leave 2nd best 11 touchdowns. Additionally, Blaze Jr contributed in the return game with 416 kick return yards.
Former Tight End Seth Leavitt was also a cornerstone of the offense. Although his stats might not reflect his impact - 46 receptions for 441 yards and 3 touchdowns, 25 pancakes and 1 allowed sack - his impact on the locker room as a captain helped propel his team into a deep playoff run, culminating in a championship.
Running Back Sherwin Blue Jr had a fantastic season as well. He lead the league in rushing yards with 1419 and tied for 2nd in rushing touchdowns with 9. Blue Jr also lead all running backs in receiving yards with 515. He also racked up 463 kick return yards to add to his lead in total yardage in S38.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Coyotes were championed by Linebackers Brian Duke and Caleb Hayden.
Brian Duke finished 2rd in the DSFL sack list with 11, 4th in tackles with 98, 4th in tackles for loss with 11, and 2 interceptions. Altogether putting together a top 5 defensive season.
His counterpart, defensive captain Caleb Hayden, had an equally impressive campaign. Hayden finished 3rd in sacks with 9, 7th in tackles with 94, and an interception returned for a touchdown.
All of these players, and several others, were a complete joy to be around in the locker room, and I am so happy that all the work they put in turned into an Ultimini trophy. Even though I didn’t technically get to be part of this championship team, the experience for me to just be around in the LR and WR was fantastic. Once a Yote, always a Yote. Here’s to you, S38 Coyotes. AWWWOOOOO
