Quote:11. Write a short biography or story about your player. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league.
Tank McGibbons never expected the call. He had settled down at his parent's farmhouse where he grew up, in front of the TV to watch the ISFL draft. Of course, the big man had been invited to the draft in person, as insiders had him picked to go in the first round. But the ever humble and shy Tank chose to spend this time with his family. After being selected first overall in the DSFL draft, Tank had been whisked away to Dallas for the season, and it felt like he would never get home. It was nice to be able to see everyone, and relax from the intense training schedule.
As they all settled in, the phone rang. Mrs. McGibbons was the first one to get to it. After she answered, she shakily held the phone out to her son. "Tank, its the GM of the Austin Copperheads, they want to speak with you," she said. Tank took the phone, and was shocked at what he heard. It was the Austin Copperheads, and they were taking him first overall in the S38 draft. Not only that, but they intended to call him up right away. Tank would need to pack his bags, he was headed back to Texas. But this time, he would be reporting to Austin.
Tank could not believe it, he thought he might go sometime in the first round, after all, he was the first overall DSFL pick. But to go first again blew him away. "I told you that you should have gone to the draft instead of being here," Mama McGibbons chided. "They are going to want to see you all dressed up and looking nice, not hanging out in your farm clothes. Think what the other ladies will say when they get a picture of you! Oh my we need..." Mama Gibbons continued on as she began listing all the things that needed done before the cameras inevitably showed up. Tank tuned his mother out, she could get spun up like this on a dime. Tank was lost in his own mind, mentally preparing for the greatest challenge of his life to date. He had made it, he was in the big leagues now.

Quote:16. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season?
Tank and the Austin Copperheads hit the ground running this season going 6-1 in the first seven weeks. Something no one, not even themselves expected to happen. It was during this period that Tank recorded his two pick sixes. For Tank personally, those pick sixes were absolutely the highlight of the season. For the Copperheads as a team, I would think the victory over eventual Ultimus champions Arizona Outlaws in week 6 was probably the highlight of the season. That was something that absolutely no one expected to happen.
After week 7 though, the season took a turn. Really, Austin just regressed toward the mean. The Copperheads went 2-7 to end the season with an overall record of 8-8. That back half of the season was certainly a low point. It took away the possibility of the Cinderella like run to the playoffs that the first half of the season promised. Several of these losses (and truthfully the wins) were in close games, which always adds to the pain. There were a couple of games in which Tank did not start (2 total). And a couple of games in which he recorded maybe a single tackle. Those two are likely his personal low points from this season.
I'm not sure there is much to change from last season. Austin is the second youngest team in the ISFL, and the TPE gap just caught up with us. We couldn't keep getting away with those close wins. However, next season we will be closing that TPE gap, with much of our defense returning without regression. I believe the offense will stay strong as well. This should set us up nicely for the upcoming season, and a few seasons after that. Of course, Austin will look to bolster both sides of the ball in this draft, with a focus on a couple defensive pieces. We gave up an average of 27 points per game this season. Hard to win games when your opponent is going to score around 4 TDs.
