I found out about this league through a Reddit post on the Raven’s subforum. I had always been interested in sim leagues but never joined one. After some consideration I decided to finally bite the bullet and give it a go, it felt like a good way to pass the time during downtime between Football seasons and a chance to meet new people. I started off probably spending around 5 hours researching different positions and what the stats were, populations of each position and what I felt like I would be prepared to play given my lack of knowledge on how to play the game at large. I eventually settled on Kicker since it felt like the lowest risk to making errors. Everything was laid out pretty intuitively, the new player guide was definitely helpful though the explanation on equipment and what it actually did I found pretty lacking., but overall it guided me through the creation process smoothly.
The onboarding process and looking forward to the prospect bowl and draft day was exciting. It’s through discord that it’s been the most entertaining, however. Lordcoolcats was one of the GMs that scouted me and I must say I’m glad to have been picked by him. I’ve only been hanging out with them for a day so far and it already feels like a tight knit group. I think moving forward I’ll have a smooth integration into the community at large as I begin taking part in the forums and discords more and more.
I am very excited to see how I perform in my role, what I bring to the group as a whole and what the future will look like. Especially as the seasons move on and I end up having to leave this group and move on to the ISFL and once again acclimate to a new group of people.

I initially went with Kicker only due to the fact that I lacked knowledge of the league and how it really works. I wanted experience before I moved onto a position that I truly desired, though now that I chose Kicker and was drafted for it I plan on sticking to it.
Once I become more comfortable I’ll be moving to Tight End most likely or Safety. Those two positions in football always fascinated me because they tend to be the most flexible on what they actually do on each respective side. Plus being a Raven’s fan I have a soft spot in my heart for Ed Reed and Mark Andrews so perhaps I’m a bit biased when it comes to positions. Linebacker is also a close 3rd in what I would choose. I will eventually at some point decide to play a QB, just because it seems to be a fun position though I know it’s heavily populated so I’ll probably wait a year or two before I jump into it.

The first thing I would change about football in general is the overtime rules in the NFL. Moving to a college style of overtime but still preserving the ability to tie would be a nice middle ground I find. You get one overtime period and whoever wins, wins, otherwise it’s a tie. This lessens the coinflip gods not favoring you.
Another change I would make is removing the onside kick and implementing a 4th and 15 rule. They’ve effectively neutered onside kicks and what was once a viable option has turned into more of a “Well we literally have no other option even if it will almost certainly fail.” Type play. Being able to claim a 4th and 15, with possible limitations to say once per half and only if you are down in score. This will have the effect of making comebacks more likely which would increase engagement with the sport as everyone loves seeing drama in the 4th quarter.
