Tier 2 Question 10
10. So if my name through a random draft lottery was selected to make me the commissioner for a day what would I do? Well I thought I would start off by legalizing tampering but I’ve said that I would do that in PBE during one of these tasks before so instead I will do something that will get me remembered forever. My first and only act as commissioner of the International Simulation Football League would be to void every player's contract. That’s right, every team has no players and it’s now time to rebuild your team from complete scratch. I’m sure people will ask me if this is for real and I will tell them it’s absolutely for real and then watch the mad scramble to get players on rosters. Hell I would even go as far to say that there isn’t a salary cap anymore and then watch the bloodbath that will ensue from this. Now strictly speaking would this actually improve the league. It would absolutely not improve the league but it would be a hell of a lot of fun to watch as people just try their best to build a roster in a few days from scratch, which might make the league the most active it’s ever been. Now once all the dust settles I’m sure I will be removed from being the commissionership and probably promptly thrown out of the league but if still could just hang on for a little while longer after the rosters are finalized so I could just do one more ruling before I step down from being the commissioner. Once the rosters are set and some team is at like 300 million on the cap, I would at that point put the salary cap that was in place back into place and then watch the anarchy as teams try to shed cap space.
Tier 2 Topic 14
Now I am probably one of the only people you will meet who is always anti expansion because I feel that it dilutes the rosters down and makes for a less fun watching experience. Now this doesn’t just come from being a casual observer from the outside, this is coming from someone who was a GM in PBE during the last expansion that they did. Imagine how shitty it has to be to have these players on your roster who have become friends in the locker room and now you have to pick and choose who you want to keep and who you are going to allow to leave and really it isn’t allow to leave as much as having these players ripped away from you. Plus expansion is boring because in the case of every expansion I have seen in my near three years in sim leagues always go the same way, one team drafts for now and becomes really good in a couple of seasons and then one team drafts youth and is building towards the future and more often than not the future never comes, players will at some point get sick of the future building and will then leave when their contract is up. The most recent example is the expansion in PBE that brought in the Seattle Sea Serpents and Buffalo Surge. Seattle built for now and has been a perennial powerhouse and Buffalo built for the future and has turned that into nothing including not even having their original GM’s anymore. Hell they have even gone and replaced the replacement GM in one case as well and the future seems bleak for Buffalo. These are just a couple of reasons why I hate expansion but the reason I hate it the most is because when they come to you to tell you they want to expand they tell you it’s to create parody in the league but what it does is it makes the the good teams better in the long run and the weak teams weaker because we don’t have the player base to justify expansion in most cases. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
