The S38 draft class has yet to do anything too spectacular, really. It wasn't a huge draft class by any means, and while many of the members did make their ISFL debuts fairly quickly, not many had any seasons to write home about.
In the QB department, there's only 2 Quarterbacks in the class, and neither is anywhere close to the top earners of the class. They were both good enough as sophomores in the DSFL, but neither is in the ISFL yet and their path to the ISFL doesn't look very good. QB is a highly competitive position, and you need to keep up to earn a spot in the ISFL, and neither Penguin or Ram Say look like they're doing that so far.
At Running Back, Armor Queen made their ISFL debut with just 363 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards for the season. That was actually the best among the S38 RBs in the ISFL, as Jeff Newman put up even fewer yards, at just 168 and 43. At the very least, Newman did well on kick returning. There was minimal rushing opportunities available for the S38 rookies though. And they also didn't really make much noise.
At Wide Receiver, we did have 1 pretty good breakthrough, as Shane Turnbull was Baltimore's leading receiver - he had 90 receptions for 993 yards. He was the only S38 WR to make their ISFL debut last season, but he did keep up the the much more experienced rookies for most of the season. Still, 11 yards per catch really isn't much of anything to talk about.
No TEs made their ISFL debuts last season, though it looks like Bong Stevens and Siegmeyer OfCatarina will both debut this season. Neither look poised to be much more than substitute players though, and I don't expect much of anything from them in a write up next offseason.
OL was a pretty premier position in the draft. There were some high quality players there, including Walrus Jones who leads the class in TPE. Interestingly enough, and somewhat surprisingly, none of the top 3 made their debuts last season. A player like Jones you would have expected to see immediately, especially at a position like OL. All 3 of Fridge, Musgrave-Smythe, and Jones are poised to debut this season though, and should be able to put up some strong stats, so definitely keep an eye on them.
In terms of kicking, both Booter McGavin and Mike Makmur made their ISFL debuts, with respectable numbers. It's kicking, so it is incredibly hard to stand out so well as to be something to write home about, but they both hovered around 85% on field goal %.
Defense was the focus of the draft when it happened, and several players made their ISFL debuts quickly. There were a TON of linebackers who went high in the first round, as well as a few defensive linemen. Bridge Burner (LB) and Tank McGibbons (LB) received votes for defensive rookie of the year, and likely would have received a few more if it weren't for an ineligible player being listed on the ballot. Burner had a solid well rounded season, 85 tackles isn't spectacular, but 11 TFLs was very good and 9 PDs from an LBs is solid as well. McGibbons earned his votes I think on the strength of 2 DTDs, as he had less than 70 tackles, 1 TFL, and 3 sacks. Cruella de Ville had a pretty good season as well, but otherwise the players in the front 7 didn't stand out much in the ISFL. Casino Robin led all S38s in PDs with 16, which is pretty good, although tops in the ISFL was 33.
There's lots of players with good potential on here, poised for long and successful careers, though for all of them they've started on a pretty quiet note. Still lots of career to come for these players, who just finished their first season after draft.
