Quote:9. There have been many moments in league history where a single decision (e.g., a draft choice, a GM’s promotion or retirement, a trade, a player’s movement in free agency) may have changed the course of a team in the ISFL or DSFL. Describe a decision that was made and the impact that it had. Did you imagine said decision leading to a different conclusion or did you think things would turn out the way they did? Is there anything different you would have done to avoid disaster or make things even better?
Me stepping down as GM from Honolulu in the early S30s. My wonderful former teammates on the Honolulu Hahalua very well might disagree, but my stepping down from GM was the turning point of the franchise in terms of league competitiveness. Sure, during my tenure, we made an exciting playoff run, but detractors might successfully argue say that was a fluke season based on being on a brand new sim where we just happened to pick winning strats compared to others at the time. I don't entirely agree with that because, at the end of the day, we just rolled with the punches better than other teams -- or simply just got lucky. Either way, all of the aobe are valdi reasons to deserve to be the playoffs. It happens in all sports regularly, after all. I feel as though our free agency acquisitions were helpful, but MMFLEX coming in was a game changer. The team received a minor overhaul, we were suddenly a free agency contender and made several Ultimus appearances in the seasons that followed. Would we have maintained that same trajectory with me? Probably not. My main goal as GM was to create a good locker room environment that was relatively engaged (at least from an ISFL perspective). I feel like I accomplished that and helped "right the ship" from the S20s where we seemed to experience one negative setback after another, be it high value picks not re-signing and going into free agency or losing inactive players to bolster the roster. So, while future leaders of the Hahalua could be generous and say that I helped lay the foundation of what came later, I would say that is generous. sidd was certainly more experienced than I, and I certainly made some picks that bombed. Meanwhile, FLEX hit the ground running. Overall, I learned a lot during my first tenure as a GM and would certainly do a lot different if I could do it again. But, I'm proud to say that the team benefited because I knew when to walk away.
Quote:11. Write a short biography or story about your player. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league.
Melvin Harris is a legend. Even if you don't know who Melvin is, you probably know who Melvin is. He didn't go to college. In fact, he only graduated from David High by the skin of his teeth. Coming from a less than affluent neighborhood, sports or criminal activity were the only real ways to attain success. Being an overweight male for his entire life, football was the sport that he gravitated towards. Even if his poor grades, he was smart enough to know that basketball and track were not areas that he would be successful in. Cardio was the bane of his existence. But he also had a larger than life personality. That it was made him be an offensive lineman. So, although he would have loved to be the star wide receiver, he also know that there was no reality where he could be a star wide receiver. He simply enjoyed food too much. That is what takes us to his legendary status. Melvin is damn near folklore in his hometown of Los Santos. The amount of food could completely devour in one sitting was beyond reach of anyone else. After practices, he could go to Cluckin' Bell and almost empty the inventory of the store. He started having to pre-arrange his visits at local establishments so they could plan their food ordering and deliveries around him. He single-handedly drove up the revenue of the franchise that the owner had to hire extra cooks for the shifts where he would be in. On the field, he certainly didn't have the best technical skills, but he had drive. He had a strong desire to protect his "boys." His coaches were willing to do whatever it took to do it, and that is what made him excel at David High and it is ultimately what made him catch the eyes of ISFL scouts. Melvin was an expert at eating. With his large frame, and his large appetite, and his larger than life personality, he hopes to be an expert in football.
