Tier 2: Short Form Tasks (Each must be 300+ words)
10. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commissioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted?
If through some random set of circumstances I had been granted commissioner for the day I would do the following:
- Ban the tamperable contract clause
- Allow a prospect to become an ISFL GM
- Change the league time zone from EST to AEST
Why would I ban the temperable clause? Well for me it seems weird that tampering is illegal but you can just get around that by having a clause in your contract that's like "yeah let's just ignore the league rule, it's all good" which I just don't get. While there might be some worth in knowing what teams may be interested in your services, I think something along the lines of teams are able to contact players during their final season of their contract would more useful given that the FA period can be quite short. Puts everyone in the same boat, and gives ample time for player to get a feel for their current team and two, have a decent period of time to possibly explore possible FA destinations during their final contracted season.
General Managers serve an important purpose, given that I think should a team be in search for one that they should be able to opt for a prospect. While there may be concerns given that a team may look to abuse this to get more value, perhaps having the team needing to spend a first rounder alleviates that concern to a degree. That was one of the suggestions in the punishment thread which made sense to me. NOLA were looking for a GM and since furiousPanda was not on a team, they weren't able to take the job officially. They were in the market for a new GM pairing and you had a willing and experience user willing to take on the reigns unable to do so.
Changing the league time zone from EST to AEST is more to do with just doing something for the sake of doing something. Suppose added confusion might be nice. Also AEST comes before EST alphabetically which further cements its place as the better timezone.
16. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season?
Before Season 40 got underway, Portland Pythons were one of the teams in the DSFL that were selected for contraction, so just managing to survive with the influx of new S41 users was pretty big. Ending up with Portland was nice, some familiar faces and some new ones who have been great. The season didn't get off to a great start. We were 1-3 to start the season and were struggling in the secondary. Fortunately, we were able to pick up Mr Robb off waivers to bolster the secondary and we really started to click on both sides of the ball. My player Emile, was fortunate to land in a situation with had both an open slot at wideout paired with a pretty good quarterback in Donovan Winters so ended being fairly productive from the get go. Didn't have a great deal of expectations in terms of stats but not going to lie, it was nice to see Emile being able to contribute in the passing game.
We won 6 of our next 7 games which ended up putting us back in contention for the 1st seed in the DSFL North which was a nice run of form and a highlight for the season. We did go 1-3 to end the season, with a couple of tightly contested losses against Dallas and Norfolk but in the end 8-6 was enough for us to secure top spot in the DSFL North. Playoffs were pretty good, up until we got to the second half of the Ultimini where we ended up losing after going up 21-3 against Bondi. Losing after that was a low light for sure, but you know if there was a team which I didn't mind losing to it would've been Bondi since they were in the same boat as us with contraction.
If I had to change anything it would be the second half of the Ultimini, but in the end it is what it is. For what's next I'm not sure. If I do get called up, it'll be exciting but at the same time staying down would provide another opportunity at the Ultimini which would be nice after falling short this season. Hopefully a good season for Berlin and Portland is on the cards for Season 41.
