One of Russet's favorite opportunities his public status as an ISFL star has given him is the ability to spread the word about potato alternative foods. An event held by Russet's foundation, Super Spuds, wanted to provide underprivileged children with lunches. So for the event, Russet and some teammates spent the morning preparing Yuca fries for the Boys & Girls club in San Jose. Most of the children had never even heard of yuca, and that's understandable as it's not a popular foodstuff. But we've found with oil and salt, kids will try and enjoy just about anything. And they really did enjoy it! The world will never truly remove potatoes from their restaurants and dinner tables, but if we introduce enough alternatives, we can certainly help reduce the number of possible special sentient spuds lost to the industry. The kiddos had a great time at the event and hopefully learned a thing or two from Russet along the way that they can take with them forever.
