Obviously, the NSFL has a lot of names that stand out, but for me, stand-out name that I find hasn’t gotten any attention yet is Archibald Booter, the kicker / punter for the Yellowknife Wraiths.
Coming from a long line of Booters, Archibald’s family name clearly predates the sport of football, meaning that they likely made their living crafting shoes. From long before the pilgrims set sail to America, the Booters made their money with their hands, working tirelessly to provide a shoe worthy of their family name. And, with a name like Archibald, this man was clearly destined for big things. Only Archibald lacked the abnormally large, calloused hands that the Archibald men (and unfortunately also the women) were known to possess, hardened by the work of their ancestors. Archibald was a bright lad and some foresaw him running the family empire, but young Archibald yearned to make a living through his own hard work… even if he couldn’t follow in his forefathers’ footsteps. And so, Archibald spent his life training for the only other profession that could do justice to the Booter name, a kicker for a football team. And that work has clearly paid off, rewarding his youthful days of hard work with a job kicking and punting for the Wraiths. The cold was difficult to deal with, but Booter men had dealt with harsh conditions before and still persevered. After all, Archibald had worked too hard to get where he was today. And now he stands proud, paving a new path for the future of the Archibald name… regardless of the size of his descendants' hands.
