Clifford Rove is a name that throws me off every time I see it. I’m not used to seeing Clifford as a name for humans, as it has mostly been associated with 1 giant red dog for me. Saying Clifford, and not talking about the popular giant dog marketed towards the younger generation is a think that has been hard to grasp for me. It would be like if someone was named Sonic McGee, I would keep thinking about a blue hedgehog who can roll around at the speed of sound, and then an evil doctor who turns animals into robots for some reason that I was never quite sure of. I don’t know what Clifford’s parents were thinking when they named him that, and I really wonder how people can associate the name with anything that isn’t a dog with a color that isn’t natural. Clifford is a name I would never think to name my child after a popular animal, as it would be hard to disconnect the two, and thinking my son is a big red dog certainly doesn’t make any sense. Whenever I hear Clifford’s name I expect a large dog under center, and every time I get a little disappointed after it doesn’t happen, even when I imagine Clifford the big red dog and not Clifford the human.
