It's 30 minutes before gametime, and C.A. Chess is nowhere to be found. Yet with 15 minutes to go usually King Bronko or Chess gives a pregame speech to get the troops fired up and Chess is there every time. So where exactly is C.A. Chess? Well, one of the security guards may have the answer. "Yeah, I've seen him out there a few times... I mean, honestly he's usually got a big old joint that his girlfriend rolled him in his hand and he's chiefing it down. He's got some anxiety issues, he's a real jittery guy. Like a tiger in a cage. And I think he smokes to kind of 'let the tiger out' in a lot of ways." Well, it would certainly make sense. Outlaws players have admitted that usually Chess' pregame speeches are more stream-of-consciousness than anything. In fact, before the conference championship game last season Chess entire speech was simply "Duuuuude... Listen to this" before slapping a "Dark Side of the Moon" vinyl down on his record player.
As Chess moves into a larger role in Season 2 you gotta believe he's hoping that the NSFL continues to allow players to smoke, because we're not sure what he would do without it.
